Alastor ran on to the sands followed by Natalie. He had a ball in his mouth that she was going to throw.

Alastor ran as fast as his little legs would go. He bent his head down to catch the ball but went to far and turned around and got it.
He ran back to Natalie and dropped the ball into her hand.

Natalie laughed at the little dog as he ran past the ball. When he came back and gave her the ball, she patted him on the head before throwing it back out again.

He ran towards the ball again and scooped it up in his mouth and brought it back to her.

She threw it again, this time it bounced funny and started to roll towards the water.

Alastor started running towards the water. The ball went deep so he jumped in. He was swimming around looking for it. When he saw it he went underwater and got it with his mouth.
He started doggy-paddling back to land.

Natalie watched worriedly as the little dog swam to get the ball and back again. She wished she could be carefree, and not worry about things, but she had never been that way.

Alastor struggled getting on to land. He walked over to Natalie and shook his fur then handed her the ball.

Natalie patted him on the head again, not caring that he was wet. Taking the ball, she threw it in the opposite direction of the lake, where there was an open stretch of green grass.

Alastor ran after the ball. He was almost there when he yelped in pain. A thorny gumball was stuck in his paw.

Natalie heard him yelp and ran out to help him. She picked him up. "What happened?" she asked, as if she was talking to a human.

Alastor lifted his paw up and showed her the thorn. It was lodged pretty deep into his paw.
