Leon Jones finally took a break from his long days of work at Gringotts. Sometimes he found himself working into the wee hours in the morning, only to have to return to work a couple of hours later. He had to make sure that everything was right. If there was even a fraction of miscalculation, he could mess something up. For the past week, he had been working hard to get everything finished up. As a result of his slaving away, Leon finished his work early. That meant that he had a whole day off tomorrow and the rest of the day today.
What was he supposed to do?
The Three Broomsticks always seemed like the place that he could unwind at. Maybe just being there could help his excitedness from work start to diminish. After he left there, Leon was pretty sure that he was probably just going to go back home and possibly get some sleep. He knew that more than likely he wouldn't take the day off tomorrow because he would find something else he could start on. Although, right now he wasn't going to go back to work. He was going to relax a little from all the stress.

It wasn't exactly the best time to be an auror. Veronica understood this and gladly accepted the risks, but lately the job was wearing on her just a little bit. She was rational and practical and never let her emotions show when she was on the clock, but sometimes she allowed that armor to slip away. Today was one of those days. She had just finished attending the funeral of Roland Ferrera, a fellow auror who seemed to have everything going for him. He was much younger than she was--only 22 years old. And it just wasn't fair that he should be robbed of life at such a young age. It made Veronica think of her younger sister Joanne, and she resolved to owl her later, just to see if she was OK.
But that was for later. For now... she felt like she needed a drink. Veronica rarely drank anything stronger than wine, but tonight she felt compelled to have some firewhiskey.
She walked into the Three Broomsticks, pleased to notice that the place had been remodeled since the Hogsmeade attack. She approached the bar, and said in a tired voice, "I'll have a firewhiskey."

Outside of work, there was little social activities for Leon. He would go out and get something to eat, go to the store or bar, or just go straight home. Although he did lack a little when it came to socializing outside of work, he was still fairly decent when he wanted to be.
The barmaid new the kind of drinks that he liked. Sure, he could go to Stu's but Leon didn't really feel the need to be around a bunch of drunks, not tonight anyway. The Three Broomsticks was a much quieter place and it didn't make his head hurt after hearing anyone yelling at each other.
A glass of scotch was put in front of him. Leon was not one to often drink liquor. Beer was more what he usually drank if anything alcoholic, but now was an exception. Just as he thanked the barmaid, another presence at the bar made him turn his head a little to see who it was. Leon gave a toothless smile in greeting before turning up his glass.

(Wow, I didn't realize that I left this thread sitting so long...)
Veronica didn't say anything for a moment while she waited for her drink. Pulling her hair into a loose ponytail, she took out her wand and used it to cast a spell that caused a small leather tie to appear and bind her hair back. Her drink arrived shortly after that, and she took a quick gulp of the liquid, wincing as it burned its way down her throat.
Only then did she turn and look at the man sitting next to her. "Hi," she said in a cool, detached voice.

Leon was only expecting to drink alone, pay for whatever drinks he got, and go home. That was the original plan anyway. The glass of scotch was still in his hands. He liked to take his time drinking it. It wasn't as if Leon was trying to be sophisticated in any way, it was just the feeling of it felt good going down and he knew that he couldn't drink too much of it.
He was aware that he was the only one next to her, so he turned his head toward her whenever she spoke to him. "Hi," he responded with a light smile.

Veronica did not make a habit of talking to random men in bars. But something about this man sort of appealed to her and drew her in. Maybe it was the fact that he seemed just as unlikely to strike up a conversation with a random stranger in a bar as she normally was. Or maybe it was the tired, over-stressed look on his face as he sipped his drink. She could certainly identify with stress.
"Long day at the office, huh?" she said casually, sipping her own drink.

“Something like that,” he replied before taking another drink. Once the glass was sat down, both of his hands were wrapped around it, and his thumbs moving along a part of the rim. It had been quite a few days since he had even stopped in the Three Broomsticks for anything. His usual day consisted of getting up early, being at work before Gringotts opened, and usually staying until it was really late. A few times, he had even slept in his office but that was only if he happened to fall asleep while he was busy.
Leon let out a sigh. It was only polite if he talked to her and it seemed weird that he didn’t have to hurry home for sleep because of work the next day. Tomorrow, it was time to just rest. He could stay away for a day, right? “I usually don’t leave work this early but I think the last few days are finally catching up to me. Long day for you?”

Veronica shrugged. "Yeah, you could say that," she replied. "But it's really more like a long month, if you know what I mean. I'm an auror, so I guess you can imagine I've been pretty busy lately. I mean, I guess it's good in some ways because we don't have set hours and don't have to stay in one place all the time. I think I'd go crazy if I had to sit in an office all the time. But on the other hand, without the whole 9 to 5 thing, I kind of end up working all the time. And the job... it's getting more dangerous than ever."

Leon nodded. "I can imagine things getting rougher," he commented. Even though Leon pretty much lived in his own little bubble, he was caught up on what had been reported. The mysterious return of a supposedly dead auror, the death of a Malfoy, other things happening around the world. Something was going to happen, but it was just a matter of what and when. "I suppose my job would drive you crazy," he said with a little smile. "I get to sit behind a desk all day. I deal with numbers and that kind of thing at Gringotts. I suppose the most important thing is that I like my job."

"Probably," Veronica replied grimly. Things had been strange lately and were likely to get worse. And yet, there were good things happening, too, like the return of Roland Ferrera from the "dead." But she was not naive enough to assume that things were going to get better. Veronica suspected that right now was just the calm before the storm.
"Yeah, I probably would hate your job, but I'm glad that you like it. Someone has to do it, right?" She laughed lightly.

"Yeah," he said with a laugh. "Dealing with numbers is probably one of the only things I'm good at." It was true. Leon wasn't that great whenever it came to to fist fighting, or wand fighting for that matter, although he could probably hold his own. As far as cooking went, he wasn't the world's greatest chef nor was he horrible, but he was able to make a decent dish only if he had the time.
"So if you ever need any kind of financial advice or anyone to help you out with money, I'm the person to come to." He smiled lightly and took a drink, finishing off his first drink. Leon shook his head and looked back to Veronica. "Sorry," he apologized. "I don't really do this whole bar scene a lot." Leon gave a shrug and a small laugh. "I have time off and I have no idea what to do with myself."

Veronica laughed. "It's OK, really. I'm not much into the bar scene myself. Most nights I work late, go home, have dinner with my sister, and go to bed. Not very exciting. But sometimes, we all need to unwind a little, right?"
She took a sip from her own drink. "I might take you up on that offer of financial help. My sister Joanne has been staying with me, and she doesn't have a job. But she likes spending money. I love her, but sometimes I wish she would do something to improve her situation. I shoudn't have to be taking care of her at her age."

Hearing Veronica was pretty much in the same boat as he was, working late and not really going to bars made Leon relax a little. "I know what you mean. Unwinding is alright and needed every once in awhile." He smiled and then finished off his glass.
"All you have to do is just come into Gringotts and they'll point you in the direction of my office. It's not hard to find." Finding something easy to talk about made Leon at ease. "Maybe you could strike a bargain with her if she could find a job? There has to be something that would strike her interest."

Veronica frowned slightly. As much as she loved her sister, she really wished Joanne were a little more motivated. The only things that she ever seemed remotely interested in involved shopping, drinking, or men. Veronica couldn't help but think that her sister was worth more than that. But convincing her was not an easy task.
"I could try," she said. "The trouble is, our mother is pretty well-off, so as we were growing up, Joanne was used to just having whatever she wanted. But Mum... she never really was the motherly type. She won't let Joanne stay with her, and once we both came of age, she refused to give us money, too. Joanne hasn't really adjusted to the change, she just thinks she can buy whatever she wants. She's never really shown any interest in any kind of job, and I don't even know what she'd be good at. She's a smart girl, but she just doesn't put it to use."

"Maybe she could work in one of the smaller shops in London. There's plenty of clothing stores, and that sort of thing there." Leon didn't understand the people who just sat around and thought that they could just sit around and do absolutely nothing and still get what they wanted. "Like I said you could always bargin with her. She only has so much money, so don't let her borrow from you. Make her work for it. It might be tough, but you seem like a tough girl."

Veronica considered this. Joanne did like clothes, particularly the muggle-style dresses. And there were a couple of nice clothing stores that were close to Diagon Alley. They were mostly muggle shops, and they would pay in muggle money, but she could always exchange the muggle notes for wizard coins. And those sorts of places usually had employee discounts....
"That's not a bad idea. Maybe I'll go by a few stores and see if they're hiring. She won't go there unless she knows they're hiring. And maybe if they have good employee discounts, she'll agree to try it out. Thanks." She paused to take a drink from her glass and considered him with interest. "Got any other good ideas on how to solve all of my problems?" she teased.
