Geoffrey laughed. Part of it was because she looked utterly adorable with her face turning bright pink like that. But it was also because her uncertainty was not that different from what he was feeling.
"I don't think there's a right way or a wrong way," he replied. "I think we just... do what feels right, you know? We'll take it slow... maybe we can go out on an actual date soon, just the two of us. I need to make sure Riley's OK first... but I'd love to take you out to dinner or something. Just work on getting to know each other."

"I'm not in a rush for anything. I can wait for awhile." She gave a smile. She had waited this long for some kind of relationship, why not wait just a little longer? Alison knew that friends were important. He needed to make sure that his best friend was good, and she understood that. She could deal with being patient...
"If you want, you can take the rest of those to her or you could just eat them yourself," she said. "I'm not going to be able to eat them all myself and they shouldn't really go to waste."

"I'm really glad I came by today," Geoffrey said.
He wished right then that he was the romantic, sweep-her-off-her-feet type. She was generous and sweet and understanding and he really liked her a lot. But Geoffrey was the "fixer" type, which was probably why he was so drawn to Riley. She needed him, and he would do anything to help her. Alison didn't really need him, but she made him feel happy when he was with her. Wasn't that what love was supposed to be?
"That would be great," he said. "But you should keep a few for yourself. I wouldn't want you to starve to death just because you gave me all your potato cakes."

"Yeah, me too," she said with a shy smile. Alison looked back down to her plate.
Part of her wondered how everything was going to go. She was new to relationships. Sure, she had seen relationships, the good ones and the bad ones. She didn't want the perfect relationship where they agreed on everything, there had to be some kind of room for a little arguing. It wouldn't be anything huge, she hoped, just the small crazy things that they would end up laughing about. She hoped that he would let her think she was getting away with something, even if he knew what she was doing, like sneaking up behind him.
Alison let out a laugh. "No, no, it's okay, really. I have more food than just the potato cakes. If I want anymore, I can always make more. It's no big deal."

Geoffrey laughed. "Oh, well, if you insist," he replied. "How do you usually heat them back up again? Do they usually stay so crispy when you reheat them?"
He really had not seriously dated anyone since his short-lived attempt at dating Riley back at school. Given how close they had been back then, their relationship just had lacked mystery and heat. Luckily, they both quickly decided that they were better off as friends and they had been able to maintain that friendship all this time. Now, though, with Alison, he wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to do. Relationships were weird, and he and Alison were just going to have to figure out how they wanted it to go together.

"I just put them in the microwave for a few seconds," she said. "As for the cripsy part, I wouldn't really say they are still crispy but they're still good."
It seemed strange sitting down at the table talking of food. She hadn't done this in a long time. After a slient minute, Alison started to laugh softly. "I didn't really think that I would be sitting here talking about making food." The conversation seemed like they had been together for a while, not just starting out.

Geoffrey laughed. "Well, why not? Food is one of my favorite topics of conversation," he said. "I can't help it... I love food. The worse it is for you, the better I like it. Fried stuff with cheese... that's my favorite. Riley always says I'm going to be 400 pounds by the time I'm 40. But I exercise all the time, so it balances out, mostly. I hardly ever gain weight and I do my best to keep in shape."

She laughed softly again. "I just haven't ever sat down and talked about food with anyone except my grandmother, so it just seems a little different." Alison finished her plate and rested her hands in her lap. She let a playful smile cross her face. "Well, in that case, I suppose I could cook a huge meal and see if I could fatten you up a little." Of course, she let him know she was joking by giving a quiet laugh as she spoke.

Geoffrey laughed. "Yeah, you could try that," he said. "I'd probably eat it all, too. And then I'd just have to go work out some more to work off all the weight. Hey, do you do any exercising? I've taken up running recently. I like to run around London, usually in the morning. It gets harder in the winter, though, because of all the ice. But maybe when it gets warmer, we could do it together."

"Well, that will be a good plan. I'll just have to go through some old cookbooks and decide on something," she said laughing. "As for exercising, I usually go for a run with Benji around Godric's Hollow as long as I get home before night fall. Sometimes we'll go for a run first thing in the morning. And I'd like that." Alison gave a smile. "Another running partner would be good. I wouldn't have to worry about you slowing down right in front of me."

"You know what I think we should do?" Geoffrey said. "I think we should have a sort of pot luck dinner. You know, you make some stuff, and I'll make some stuff and I could bring it over, and we can sort of exchange. Maybe we could also watch a movie or something. Do you have a muggle TV set? We have this modified one at my family's house, and you can watch whatever movie you want on it. There's really nothing better than just sitting on the couch with some good food and watching a movie. What do you say?"

She had never heard of a pot luck dinner but it did sound inviting. It would be a mix of things and she was always willing to try something new. "That sounds like a good idea. I've never had a pot luck dinner before. It was always just one person doing all the cooking. As for a muggle television, I do have one. It's in my room at the moment because I don't have anything to really set it on in the living room but my mum told me she'd give me something whenever I came back over there. I suppose it's now time for me to visit my parents then."
