"Getting a job is not that bad," Constantine said with a laugh. "But I'll tell you what. You can go to my apartment that night if you get a girl, however go into the second bedroom, not mine. I'll go to whatever girl's apartment that night. After all, she'll probably think its sweet that I'm letting my little brother stay with me." He gave Damon a wide grin. "There, I think we have that much sorted out."
"But really Damon, getting a job won't be that bad. You just have to do a little looking around and see what you like. If you have to go to work at several different places to decide what you like, then do it. There's nothing wrong with that, besides, just think it'll be better than being at home all day."

Damon grinned and clapped his older brother on the shoulder. "Thanks, Con. You're a real pal. Cassius really is wrong about you, you know. I tell him so all the time. I wish I could get him to give you another chance... just to hear you out."
The disharmony in the family never failed to frustrate Damon, and he was determined that somehow, he would get the brothers back together. Sure, it seemed impossible, but there had to be a way.
"The thing is, I don't know what kind of job to get. I'm not really... good at anything. And I think Mum and Dad would be more disappointed if I just worked in a store than if I didn't work at all."

"Hm. Fat chance," Constantine muttered. There was no way that Cassius was going to hear him out. Although it didn't matter to Constantine what side Cassius was on, he couldn't let anything too horrible happen to his brother. It didn't matter to him if they did fight all the time, they were still brothers. The same went for Anton and Damon as well. If any boy harm his sister, may heaven help the boy.
"Well, you could always try out for a bartender. I could see you doing something like that. And even if you got a job in a store, that's better than nothing at all."

Damon let out a laugh. "Hmm. Maybe. But do they frown upon sampling the drinks? I don't know if I could be around all that liquor and not drink."
Shrugging, he shook his head. "I don't know, Con. I just keep trying to find the one thing I'm good at, and coming up blank. You're lucky. You knew what you wanted to do. I just... I've got nothing."

"I don't think they frown upon sampling the drinks. After all, you do have to let your customers know if you have the best liquor or not."
Even though Constantine knew what he wanted to do and it caused him to be the odd one but he wouldn't go back and change it. "You'll find something you're good at," he said. "Sometimes it just comes to you whenever you least suspect it. Its how it usually works."

Damon laughed. "Yeah, but the bartender should never be drunker than his customers," he replied.
He paused to take a sip of his drink, and he eyed Constantine over the top of his glass. In ways that Damon couldn't quite bring himself to verbalize, he actually admired Constantine. Damon didn't have the courage to be a rebel. He was too afraid to sever ties with his family, the way Constantine had essentially done. He loved all of his siblings, and would be devastated if they cut him out of their lives the way they had done with Constantine. But he couldn't quite get behind the death eater thing. It seemed extreme to Damon. But he just didn't have the guts to explain that to Anton and Cassius.
"Yeah, I imagine I'll figure it out eventually," he said at last. "But sometimes I get the feeling that I'll be a disappointment no matter what I do."

"To be honest with you, you won't be a disappointment to me. Once you find something you love, people shouldn't be disappointed in you for it. The only reason that they would be disappointed in you would be because you wouldn't do what they wanted you to do." Constantine gave a shrug.
"I know, its not going to be easy but once you find something you like, don't let go. I think the worst thing that could really happen is you be disappointed in yourself. Do whatever you want. Sure, it doesn't sound easy but its the only way that you're going to be able to do anything."

Damon smiled. "I swear, Con, you're, like, the only one who believes in me. Even when I don't believe in myself."
He'd been getting a lot of harsh comments from his parents lately, about how he was "useless" and "lazy." Sometimes he got the feeling that Cassius and Quincy felt the same way. Anton was a little better, and of course Cadence adored all of her brothers. But Damon was definitely feeling like the odd one out; not even enough trouble to be disowned.
"Cassius is wrong about you, you know. I try to tell him so... But I don't like fighting with him."

"What are brothers for? Plus, you and Cadence are the only two that haven't really shunned me out. Although, Anton is willing to speak to me every once in awhile." Constantine grinned. "And there has to be someone there to push you to do something."
He had gotten used to the fact that his family was pretty much disappointed with him. Although it didn't matter to Constantine that much, because he was doing something he loved and he was decent at it. Even though he was pretty much out of the family, it was nice to know that he did have a couple that were willing to speak to him. Family was important.
"Well, Cassius is stubborn. Don't worry about trying to tell him anything because he's going to believe whatever he wants to. One of these days he'll find out for himself." Talking about his twin wasn't Constantine's favorite subjects. The only reason the two didn't get along was because Cassius had his head set and it was going to take something drastic for the boy to open his eyes.

Damon sighed. "I know. I just... I don't like the feeling that I might lose one of my brothers. I mean, so far, it's OK if I keep talking to you as long as I don't involve Cassius. But sometimes I feel like he's almost ready to kick me out of the family, too, and I haven't done anything wrong, you know? I'm just... I'm stuck between you all, and it's scary. I don't even have the excuse of being sweet and cute like Cadence. I'm just... me."
Then he shrugged, wanting to change the subject. "Anyway, what about you? Anything interesting going on in your life? Maybe a girl you met or something?"

"Are you sure you're not sweet, cute and cuddly? You look that way to me," Constantine added teasingly. He wasn't going to be the one pulling on Damon and making him come over to his side, while Cassius and Anton pulled him over to theirs. Damon was old enough to make his own decision and whatever decision he made, he was still Constantine's brother.
"Interesting? Sadly, there's nothing about a girl or anything interesting really. It's still just me. I haven't been looking for anything, unlike you who will flirt with any pretty thing that comes your way." He grinned at Damon just to let him know he was kidding.

Damon laughed. "You're right, I am sweet and cute. But I'm not a girl. No matter what Cassius says about me."
He shrugged. It had to be easier for Cadence, being the only girl. She was adorable and irresistable and could do pretty much whatever she wanted. If she chose not to be a death eater, no one would fault her for it. They might even be happy about it.
"No girls, huh? Well, it's too bad you didn't inherit my charm and wit and good looks. Instead, you're stuck looking like Cass." He took a sip of his drink, then leaned back in his chair. "As for me, I might have met some one. We only met once, but I keep thinking about her."

Constantine couldn't help but laugh. "Hey, I'm the better looking one out of the family, well, other than Cadence. I just haven't been able to find a girl that can handle my good looks just yet." He took a drink from his glass and looked over to Damon with his brows raised.
"Met only once and you can't stop thinking about her," he said almost teasingly, "Sounds like someone has a crush." Constantine smiled and then leaned forward, resting his arms on the table. "Tell me about this girl that has stolen your thoughts."

Damon rolled his eyes. "I knew I shouldn't have said anything," he said. "She's just a cute girl who ran into me--literally--at the quill shop. Apparently she does tutoring or something at the school. I walked her there, jut in case she dropped something... and so I could flirt with her a little more."
He shrugged. "It's probably no big deal... I'll probably never see her again. She probably thinks I'm a git, because I kept teasing her about being clumsy."

"It wouldn't be brotherly of me if I didn't pick on you about a girl." Constantine smiled. "But, I'm not going to give you that hard of a time."
At the mention of probably not seeing her again, Constantine rolled his eyes. "You'll see her again. If she does tutoring at the school and you happened to see her at the quill shop, then the chances that you'll see her again are highly likely. Besides, if she didn't tell you that she thought you were a git, or if she didn't give you any weird looks that said you were a git, then she probably doesn't think you're one."
He sighed and shook his head. "Plus, she might have just been flustered if you kept flirting with her."

Damon grinned. “Well, if she doesn’t think I’m a git, then she’s wrong, because I am one,” he replied. “But at least I can freely admit it, so maybe there’s hope for me, eh?”
He let out a laugh and leaned back in his seat. “What we should be doing is trying to find you a girl. I mean, it’s no fair that you get to tease me about girls, when I have nothing to tease you about. You’re just too serious, anyway.”
Looking around, he winked at one of the barmaids. “She’s cute… Want me to see if she’d be interested in you? I have a way with waitresses and barmaids. Hey, maybe I should introduce you to the cute barmaid at Stu’s. I bet she’d like you.”

He rolled his eyes. "No, we shouldn't be trying to find me a girl," he responded. Constantine couldn't really say that he didn't have time for a girl, because he did, it was just he didn't want to bring her into the world of dating an auror. Anything could happen at any given time and Constantine knew that before he even signed up to be one. Of course he knew more than half the department had paired off with someone but he was fine with it.
"It is fair that I can tease you about girls, because that is what I'm supposed to do. It's written in the big brother handbook." He flashed his brother a smile. Constantine knew that he could be too serious, but it was just who he was. He was out on his own and he had to look after himself as well as his family, even if all of them didn't look after him.
Constantine waved Damon's offer off. "No," he said. "I don't want you to see if she's interested, besides I think she's more interested in you anyway." He looked at his brother teasingly. "And I know you have your way with waitresses and barmaids. They're almost putty in your hands." He let out a small laugh.

Damon grinned. “Well, I can’t help it if they’re drawn to my rugged good looks,” he teased. “But seriously, I hope you at least go out once in a while and meet people. Besides me, that is. I mean, I know you’re busy working and all, but you know what they say about all work and no play. I wouldn’t want you to become as boring as Cassius.”
He shrugged then and finished the rest of his drink. “Anyway, you really should send an owl to Anton. Even if Cassius wants nothing to do with you, I know Anton is wondering how you’re doing. And I bet Cadence would love to see you. Especially if you brought her presents.”

"I meet people," Constantine said, "sometimes." That wasn't a lie, but then again it wasn't meant in the way of he went out a met girls. There were a couple of times he had gone out and met people and had some type of fun. Of course, maybe Constantine still needed to lighten up a little more.
"And you don't ever have to worry about me becoming as boring as Cassius. I'm not some stick in the mud," he said raising his eyebrows. "I know when to have fun." He gave a smile. There was no way that he was like Cassius. Sure, maybe they looked the same, but Constantine would never admit that they were really alike.
"Oh, Cadence and presents, that reminds me. I have stuff for her from my last two trips I think she'd enjoy. Usually I just owl stuff to her, but I didn't owl what I have for her now. When is the next dinner? I'll make sure to be there." Anton he could deal with. The eldest out of the family was alright when it came to getting along. Constantine didn't mind being around Anton because even though they were at opposite ends, they could still talk and be somewhat close in a sense.

"I don't know, actually," Damon said, shrugging. "It's always Anton who schedules these things, not me. But I can pass the word along to him that you'd be interested in coming to the next one, and he can invite you. If the invite comes from Anton, then Cassius wouldn't dare complain."
That was one thing about their family, everyone always listened to Anton. He was respected, and even a little bit feared, by everyone.
