Gerard didn't know why his mother made him attend this stupid Summer camp. It was bad enough to be stuck with people that didn't like him at school, now he had to be stuck with them during the summer in the sun. He was never really the "outdoor" type. Fresh air, bugs, sun, none of those things ever appealed to him.
He sat on a rock underneath a big pine tree. He pulled a branch off, then started to peel the bark back. School was just around the corner, and he couldn't wait to go back to that instead of staying here.

Lily was out walking, feeling bored and alone. Somehow this summer was not turning out the way she had expected. Everyone seemed to be keeping to themselves a lot, and there was sort of an eerie hush in the air. She had seen James Potter whispering to his friend Remus Lupin, but she'd hardly even seen anyone else, which was odd. She hadn't even had a letter from Tuney in weeks.
She walked slowly, taking in the fresh air and thinking deeply. She was so deep in thought that she almost didn't notice the boy sitting under a tree until she almost tripped over him. "Oh! I'm sorry," she said, laughing nervously. "I didn't see you there."

Gerard dropped the tree branch and just stood up quickly by instinct. He stood there stupidly rubbing his arm and staring down to the ground. "It s'alright," Rardy muttered. And sat back down on the rock.
I'd be surprised if you did see me! After all, I am invisible at school. Gerard looked up at the girl trying to figure out if he had seen her before of not. But he looked away quickly so that she wouldn't think he was glaring at her or anything. "Um. I'm Gerard by the way. People call me Rardy." If by "people" he meant 'mother.' And he stuck out his hand.

Lily smiled at the boy. He seemed a bit awkward and unsure of himself, and she wanted to put him at ease. She reached over and shook his hand. "Hi, Rardy. I'm Lily. It's nice to meet you. I think I might have seen you around before. You're a Hufflepuff, right?"

Gerard nodded and even gave a little smile. As he was shaking Lily's hand he couldn't help but realize that this was the most human contact he's had besides the guys in the cabin.
He also realized that he was gripping Lily's hand hard and probably a little too long for a friendly handshake. Gerard pulled his hand away quickly...a little too quickly that he hit his hand against the pine tree he was sitting under. Rardy could feel his face flush and turned to look away. "Um. Yea, so you're in Gryffindor, right?" Gerard cringed a little. His voice was doing it again, going low into a high pitched squeak.

Lily heard the crack in his voice, but didn't mind it. Gerard seemed like a nice guy, just a little shy. She smiled warmly. "Yeah, I'm in Gryffindor," she replied. She tried to think of something else to say, in the hopes of putting him at ease. "So, camp's pretty lame, huh? We haven't really done much of anything so far. And the food is not at all like it is at Hogwarts."

Gerard turned his face back around and could feel his regular colour return. Rardy started to laugh. Hah. Yea. My mum made me come here. Something about meeting new people. Rardy then looked at her and smiled. I guess it's working.
Gerard didn't know what it was about this girl. He all of a sudden felt so comfortable with her. And this was a big deal for him. He didn't get along well with people. Especially girls. The food here IS terrible!! I hate the "great outdoors" and the bugs and... Rardy chuckled. I'm talking way too much..

Lily laughed. "Well, now you can tell her that you did meet someone new... you met me. Really, I've hardly met anyone myself. At least, not anyone that i didn't already know. Until now. I came because I didn't want to have to spend the summer without magic, when I'm just starting to get used to using it. But the outdoorsy stuff is really getting old. I have bug bites all up and down my legs! It's not as much fun as I thought it'd be." She tilted her head as she looked at him. He was a nice guy, and not bad-looking. She felt bad that he was so shy. "How come you don't talk to a lot of people? Most people aren't really so bad. Just stay away from the Slytherins."

Gerard just looked down and shrugged. It's moments like these that make him feel so awkward, asking why he didn't talk to many people was hard to answer. He has always been shy. Maybe it was a phase or something, but he knew he had to make aquaintances. Because as much as he hated to admit: no man is an island.
Then Rardy smiled at that last remark Lily made. "What's so bad about Slytherin? I've never actually talked to one, but I'm sure they're just like the rest of us." Gerard was shy not prejudice.

Lily shrugged. "You're right. Some of them actually aren't that bad. Severus can be nice, when he wants to be. And Justine isn't too bad. But some of the others... well, it's just a good thing that Lucius Malfoy and Bellatrix Black won't be back next year. They really weren't nice... They hate Muggle-borns." She smiled at him again. "Anyway, you may be quiet but you seem pretty cool to me."
