Katie sighed as she left the cabin. Today was one of those days time seemed to go by so slow. Katie didn't really know what she wanted to do. She had plenty of options to chose from, but doing those things by herself didn't really seem promising. She finally found a spot that was shaded and sat down, stretching out in a comfortable position, just watching people go about their lives.

Gia wandered out of her cabin, feeling lost. She really didn't have anyone to talk to, and there was nothing to do. She didn't know why she thought camp would be different from the regular school year. She walked along, looking for a place to sit and relax, when she noticed Katie sitting in a shady spot. She looked just about as bored as Gia was. So Gia decided impulsively to walk over to her. "Hey," she said. "Mind if I join you?"

"Hey Gia," said Katie sitting up. "No, I don't mind." She gave her a smile. "I thought camp was going to be slightly more exciting than this to be honest."

"Me too," Gia said, sitting down next to her. "If I'd known it was going to be like this, I would have gone home. My mom could really use the help with the kids."

Katie nodded. "Well, I mean, at least it hasn't be stressful. It's been somewhat fun, just not like I expected. I think it's basically because of what happened at the end of the year."

"Yeah, I know," Gia said. "I can't believe that girl was killed. That's just... so wrong. Why would anyone want to kill a girl that young, you know?" She sighed. "My mom really freaked out when she heard about it. She's a muggle, you know, so she just doesn't understand any of this."

"I don't really understand it either. Whoever did it doesn't have any heart or anything. I feel bad for the girl's family," said Katie. "I didn't really know her, but still, that's horrible!"

"I know. I don't really understand much about that Voldemort guy," said Gia. "For some reason, everytime his name is mentioned, people start to whisper and act all strange. Where did he come from and what makes him so great? Why do people follow him?"

"I don't know," said Katie. "From what I heard, he wants to gain control of this world, as well as the muggle world. I'm not really sure if that's true, but it seems to fit. I guess those people want to follow him, because they're scared of him, and rather follow him, than be killed by him."

"Or maybe they think that if he gains control over everything, they'll get to take part in it." Gia shook her head. "It's kinda weird, don't you think, how they never talk about these things in school? I mean, shouldn't we be learning how to protect ourselves in case somethingbad happens? I don't know if I would know what to do if someone came after me."

"I'm right there with you," said Katie. "I don't know what it is. Maybe they are trying to keep it quiet, because maybe they think that they can take care of it, or maybe they don't want to raise fear in people."

"Maybe," said Gia. "But really, I feel like not knowing is scarier than knowing. I don't like being kept in the dark, like there's some terrible secret that I'm not allowed to know about, but that could affect my life."

"That's true," said Katie. "I don't know what they're doing. Maybe we'll find out soon enough. I have a feeling that we'll learn more about how to defend ourselves this up coming year."

"I hope so. Maybe after those kids were killed last year, they'll realize that they need to teach us to defend ourselves. Like, maybe if they had known these things, they would have at least stood a chance." Gia sighed. "Did you hear about out Defense Against the Dark Arts professor's baby being kidnapped?"

Katie nodded. "Yeah, I heard about that. I feel bad for her," said Katie. "It seems like all of a sudden all these bad things start happening. I don't know what's going on anymore."

"I guess," Gia said. "It's just weird, you know? I mean, why go after random people? Why not go after the people with power and take them down, one by one? Wouldn't every one else just be easier to control that way? If I were planning to take over the world, that's how I'd do it." She glanced at Katie and giggled. "That sounded weird, didn't it?"
