When June touched his hand, Brady knew that he couldn't deny staying. He looked to the other two at the table to check their reactions. When his eyes reached Talon, he could have sworn there was something else on his face but it was gone quickly.
"If you insist that I'm not going to intrude on anything, I suppose I could." Brady gave a smile to the woman June told him was Virginia and took a seat next to her. "I appreciate the offer. I think this is the first time I've actually eaten in here."

The smiled that June gave both men was one of the reasons she liked to think that Talon fell for her. She dropped Brady's hand, letting him take a seat, and returned to her own next to Talon. Under the table, she set her hand on his knee.
"I absolutely adore this place," she told him. "I wish it had opened ages ago. Anyway, I was out on a run for work the other morning, and met Brady over a cup of coffee. Small world that we both worked in the Ministry." She shrugged, absently playing with the sugar packets in the container and straightening them, organizing them by color as well. She didn't even know she was doing it.
"How's work been, by the way?"

"Work has been," Brady paused for a moment. There had been a few things running through the MLE, "interesting. Hasn't been too dull. It reminds of why I really chose to work there." He gave a smile. Being the observer he was, noticed what June was doing but he kept it to himself. He didn't want any of his words to sound too flirty, even though he wouldn't be too aware if they did, toward her especially since Talon was sitting next to her.
"I imagine work as been awfully exciting in the portkey office hm?"

June rolled her eyes. "Oh yes. Those wayward portkeys really take their tole on a person. I'll be honest, you don't work in the Portkey Office for the excitement."
She took her hand away from Talon's knee for a sip of her wine, and then looked at Brady. "We'll ask for another glass the next time our waiter comes around." She shot a conspiratorial look at Virginia, but said nothing more about it.

Brady let out a laugh. "That's true. Although I think that it turns exciting when that older lady works in there from time to time. She seems to really have it out for some people." He shook his head.
"And thank you." Tonight was a night that he had to pull out all his manners. Eating out was something he never did but he kept that comment to himself. He didn't want to cause anything odd. Brady would be able to swallow the awkwardness and have a decent night, hopefully.

June gently squeezed her fingers on Talon's thigh, just a silent way of asking him to be nice. She knew that he was jealous of the guy friends she had, and she really tried not to bring them around all that often. But she was a friendly and outgoing person, and she assumed that was one of the reasons Talon loved her.
She laughed. "That's Edith Spitzer. She's actually quite a sweetheart, if you can get on her good side," she told Brady. "But sometimes, I think she does like to trip people up. The woman's as mad as a box of frogs on her best day."
(Ha ha. Heard that phrase and had to use it)

"I'd say," he agreed. "She always seems to give people a hard time when it comes to getting a portkey. It gets annoying sometimes. And I don't think I could ever get on her good side because that chance was blown when she attempted to be a little flirty I guess and I gave her an odd look cause I had no idea what she was doing." Brady gave a small shudder.
"Although, I'm glad to see that everyone in the department is not as mad as she is. If you were, I don't think anyone could get anywhere." Brady decided to add the last part, for Talon's sake. He didn't want the man to bust a blood vessel if he thought Brady was trying to flirt with his girlfriend in front of him.

Virginia was quiet as Brady joined them, just sort of observing the dynamics of the table. She didn't know Brady at all and she'd only known Talon for a very short time, but she knew June very well. And she could easily read the signs. June liked Brady. And Talon was not pleased. He was being quiet and trying to seem pleasant, but there was something about his silence that made it all too clear that he was unhappy. He seemed tense, though he was trying to keep under control.
Finally she decided to speak up, to try and ease some of the awkwardness.
"You both work at the Ministry together?" she inquired. Maybe if it just seemed like they were co-workers, Talon would relax.

When the woman June introduced as Virginia spoke, Brady turned to look at her. “Yes ma’am,” he said with a nod of his head. “I work in the Magical Law Enforcement department.” He smiled lightly. Brady couldn’t remember the last time he had really been social like this. He only hoped that he didn’t show any kind of uncertainty about the situation.
“Since you’re new in town, and judging by your accent and name, I guess you’re the one that has opened the new art gallery? I heard a few people talking of a French woman named Virginia opening one. I also heard that there are great works of art in there.” Brady figured that he should spend time talking to Virginia. After all, maybe it would help ease the tension the man had sitting diagonal from him.

June fell quiet, letting Virginia and Brady talk. She was observant, and she knew was Virginia was doing. While she appreciated it, it still made her frown.
She leaned towards Talon and put her lips next to his ear. "Relax," she whispered. "He's just a friend of mine," she assured him, then turned Talon's head to face her. She smiled. "I love you," she announced quietly, not wanting to subject anyone to their public displays of affection, and gave him a quick kiss.
The moment was gone quickly, and she turned her attention back to the table as a whole.

Just because Talon was verbally quite while this 'friend' of June's joined them for dinner, doesn't mean he was mentally quite. Talon had a distaste for this man, even if he was part of the Magical Law Enforcement. He was a so-called friend of June's so Talon knew that he had to act nice, at least while June was around. It bothered him that she had so many guy friends. Maybe he would bring it up to her soon. This had to be fixed.
While June was trying to get him to look at her, he was glaring at Brady, subtly of course. There was no need to cause a scene. He turned his head when she put her hand on his cheek. The kiss made him feel almost slightly better. He would have felt completely better if Brady would have just left.
"Love you too," he muttered. It wasn't even a heartfelt 'Love you too'. It was said as if he was just say hello to someone. Talon was still sitting stiffly as he sat next to June.

Virginia smiled at Brady. "Ah, oui. I see that my reputation has preceeded me. I had no idea the word was getting out so quickly. I hope that means I will be seeing an increase in business." Her eyes sparkled with laughter, but she paused for a quick glance at June. She didn't want June to think she was monopolizing her friend, but if she were to flirt a little with Brady, then perhaps Talon's jaw would lose that hard edge to it. She didn't really think anything bad about the possibility that he was jealous of Brady... after all, most men would be a tiny bit jealous if their girlfriends were to talk to another man right in front of them. Talon seemed to be controlling his jealousy well enough, so Virginia wasn't too concerned.
"The department of Magical Law Enforcement sounds very intriguing," she continued to Brady, leaning forward with her chin resting on her hand. "Tell me about it. Perhaps, if my art studio does not work out, I will have to look at an alternative career."

June caught Virginia's eye and just smiled slightly. She knew what her friend was doing, and while part of her was thankful, the other part thought it was strictly unnecessary. Talon knew what she like, and he loved her anyway. She would never be unfaithful to him, never, and he should know that too.
While Virginia was keeping Brady occupied, she leaned over in her seat, resting her chin on Talon's shoulder. "Please relax," she said quietly. "He's just a friend. You know that." His half-hearted 'I love you' really distressed her. She did love Talon whole-heartedly, and it always bothered her when she thought he was upset or disappointed. At the same time, she didn't want Brady to feel unwelcome. When she saw him and invited him over, she honestly hadn't thought anything of it. Now, she felt like she'd made some major faux-pas.

Had Brady known that Talon would have felt completely uneasy with him around, Brady would have just declined and made up an excuse as to why he could not stay. He knew that he couldn't really do that now.
In an attempt to keep things easy, Brady focused on the woman sitting next to him. He was not used to having to just tread so lightly around someone. "Working there does get interesting. We usually don't have too much of a boring day. The MLE works with the other departments in the Ministry if something goes on that requires our help. Sometimes there are a few odd calls, but I think that keeps things going." He gave a smile.
"Although, I don't think you're going to have to worry about not having any business. I believe that you're going to have plenty of it. I might even stop by to take a look."

Virginia smiled, her cheeks turning pink. Brady was a charming man, and there was a tiny part of her that, for just a second, wished that he was June's boyfriend, and not Talon. It wasn't that she didn't like Talon; she really hadn't known him long enough to form a true opinion of him. Virginia was not a girl who like to make snap judgements on people. But Brady was easy to talk to and had a warmth about him that could easily draw a person in. Talon was a bit more... reserved.
"I would like that very much; I will be sure to give you a tour if you come by. So far the only work I have displayed is my own, but I am hoping to get more pieces from local artists very soon. I have learned that one of the girls killed in that 'orrible attack in Hogsmeade was an artist; I am trying to work out a deal to have an exhibit of her work."

"More people will come by and ask about displaying their artwork. I'm sure of it." He gave her another smile. Virginia was a nice woman, that was for sure. Brady knew that she was trying to keep a balance with what was going on. The thought of thinking that he forgot about meeting someone popped into his mind as an excuse to just leave. However, Brady couldn't just use that excuse. Virginia was speaking to him, and he didn't mind speaking to her.
"That's a great idea. Having the girl remembered that way would be a good think I think. Hopefully the parents of the girl would be happy to work with you."

Virginia nodded in agreement. "Yes, that is what I was thinking. It would be a fitting tribute to the girl, and a reminder of what we lost in the attack. So much lost potential, it's truly tragic. I am lucky I had not come to tow yet when that attack happened, but I want the community to know that I am a part of it now, and I want to reach out and maybe help people heal."
There was still a lot she had to learn about the people and culture, and sometimes she forgot that she wasn't still in Paris. But she was adjusting and she wanted to keep doing so.

"I think that's rather noble, Virginia," June said, trying to ignore the nagging feeling she had in her stomach because of the man sitting next to her. She refused to be brought down by him in front of these two. Maybe she'd offer to have him bring Trevor next time, or something to that effect.
"The attack was a terrible thing to happen... and you know it was just meant to instill fear in everyone... why else would they go after children?"

June had a point. The sad fact was that the surest way to terrorize people was to attack the innocent. When children were attacked, it not only frightened the children, but their parents. Such an attack would have long-ranging effects, and healing was going to take a very long time.
"This is true," Virginia replied. "And I genuinely think that the only way to combat that fear is for all of us to bond together, to form a united front against the people who would do such things. It doesn't help to sit back and hide and hope that someone else fixes the problem."
