Emmeline walked slowly out to the lake. Her legs felt like lead and her eyes wouldn't stop watering. It was cold and windy outside which made her feel even worse. She hadn't done any of her homework nor practiced any of her magic. Not since the attack anyway. She looked down at her hands as she walked. They were still cut and bruised from all the rubble that had been flying everywhere. Just thinking about how lucky she was not have been killed was enough to make her start crying.
She was surprised that she hadn't got in trouble for being in Hogsmeade. She was, after all, only a second year and they weren't allowed in Hogsmeade. She had only gone to shop for a dress. And she ended being in the middle of an attack. She felt tears leak down her cheeks. She saw someone die. What would she tell her parents when she wrote back to them and told them she was ok? That she was fine. She only saw people die and she had been cut up, bruised, and bloodied by flying spells and rubble. No. Definantly not what she planned to tell them. But to bad the Hogwarts staff had already sent out letters about the attack.
Emmeline sat against a tree and closed her eyes. She listened to the lake lap against the shore and sighed. She had been having a hard time sleeping the past few nights. Was that normal? She hadn't seen Rori, so she couldn't talk to her about it. And not to mention that the Yule Ball was coming up which made her even more nervous. She was going with Sirius Black. The cutest guy in the school. Emmeline smiled a little and blushed. She always did this whenever she thought of Sirius. But she hadn't talked to him much after the attack either. Which reminded her why she was out at the lake in such chilly weather. She had sent Sirius an owl asking him to hang out with her. She didn't know why she did it. She just liked his company. She smiled again. He would take her mind off of things.

Sirius was not one to dwell on dark and depressing thoughts. The attack at Hogsmeade had been horrible, and he hated that students and adults had been killed. But it made him all the more determined that, when he got older, he was going to fight to do something about the death eaters. He may have been very young, but he had grand dreams of one day saving the world.
But for now, as far as he could see, it was time to move on from the events at Hogsmeade. The best way to honor those who had died was for everyone to live their lives. That was what Sirius intended to do. He was alive, why not celebrate?
So he and James had quickly returned to their pranks again, providing much-needed laughter where it seemed to be in short supply. And they were all looking forward to the dance. James was going with Robin, who was recovering from her injuries nicely. Remus was going with some girl named Anya, Peter was going with Adelaide, and Sirius was going with Emmeline. It was sure to be a good time.
After getting the owl from Emmeline, Sirius smiled. He liked Emme... probably more than he should. His track record wasn't good, not after the incident with Amy and Kris. But somehow he couldn't help himself.
He was still smiling as he headed outside to meet with Emme by the lake. He could see her in the distance, and he waved. "Hey, Emme!" he called as he came closer.

Emmeline wiped her cheeks to make sure there weren't any tear stains. She had no intentions of scaring Sirius off by being a cry baby. She turned to face him with a bright smile and a wave. "Hey Sirius!" She called, for he was still a little ways off. He looked happy and undisturbed, a quality which she most admired about Sirius.
Emmeline met him half way. She didn't feel much like sitting, seeing as that made her think for some reason. "How's it going? I haven't seen you in awhile. I assume you've taken back up pranking people?" She asked him with a small smile and a motion for him to follow as she started to walk for nowhere in particular.

Sirius smiled at the sight of her. Emme really was pretty... he was going to have to stop hanging around such cute girls. It always seemed to get him into trouble.
"I'm doing OK," he said. "Still sort of recovering from the attack and everything. We were all really lucky we weren't hurt... but Professor Dumbledore's going to give me and James and Remus and Peter a special award for helping students escape through the secret passageway. We weren't even supposed to be in Hogsmeade, and we wouldn't have been if Andi hadn't volunteered to take us. But it was a lucky thing we were there."
He shrugged. "It's no big deal, really. I just think we need to get things back to normal, you know? So yeah, back to pranking."

Emmeline smiled and looked at him as he talked. His hair was slightly long and the wind was making it rustle lightly. She reached up and subconsciously touched hers. "Wow! An award?! You guys totally deserve it. I mean, it was amazing how you managed to stay so calm. I guess that's the Gryffindor in you." She shrugged and gave a slight laugh.
"Do you have any special pranks planned for the Yule Ball?" She asked him, with a bright smile. It surprised her how not upset she was about that. It was almost exciting to think about that. She also felt a slight blush creep up her neck. She hoped that he hadn't forgotten that he was taking her...

Sirius shrugged. "It's no big deal, really. We knew a way out, so we used it and helped others use it. It's a shame, though... now everyone knows about it. We were hoping to keep that as our little secret way into Hogsmeade. Now they're tightening the rules about first and second years in Hogsmeade... We really could have used that secret passageway, you know?"
He laughed about the idea of pulling a prank at the ball. "No, James is going to be busy with Robin, and I'll be busy dancing with you, remember? Actually, we were thinking about terrorizing Severus Snape, but we heard he's actually going to the ball with Natalie St. Clare, and Remus threatened us with death if we tried anything against him while he's with her. You know, Natalie's little sister was Remus's girlfriend, Sabrina... she died last year. I guess he's kind of protective of her little sister still."

"Of course it's a big deal! You saved people. But you're right, now they know about it and underage kids like us now have no chance of getting into Hogsmeade." She smiled. "But I'm sure someone will find a way back in." She gave him a pointed look as she said this.
"I heard about Remus. Maybe that's why he keeps to himself so much... Of course I remember we're going together. I've never been so excited. But I'm not a very good dancer. I'll go ahead and apologize in advance." She laughed a little and did a little two step, almost causing herself to trip. She blushed a little. "Told you so..."

Sirius grinned. "Yeah, I'm sure James and I'll figure out another way to get into Hogsmeade. You can't keep us down very long."
His eyes held a mischievous sparkle to them as he spoke, and he let out a small laugh when she tried to dance and tripped. "Not to worry. I happen to be a really good dancer, and I promise I won't let you fall. Just hold onto me, and everything will be fine."
