(Since we've talked about doing this thread for ages)
The night of the ball, so far, was not going well at all for Thane. He couldn't find his shoes or his comb, and naturally, his hair was a wild mess. He needed Gwen, but knew better than to go to her. Girls took twice as long to get ready for these kinds of things, and besides, she was in a different common room and he didn't have time to get to her.
"It's going to be so terrible if I make Regina late because I can't find my shoes," Thane said to his room mate and best friend, Leo, as he stuck his head under his bed. "And she can't be late because she has to start the ceremonies."

Leo laughed and shook his head. "Thane... seriously, I don't know ow you manage to walk around every day. It sounds cliche, but I think it's pretty accurate to say you'd lose your head if it wasn't attached to your neck."
He was considerably less nervous as he leaned back on his bed. He wasn't even dressed yet, figuring there wasn't much that he really needed to do. He didn't even see the need to work extra hard to impress Rori, since they were already dating.
"OK, so where did you last have them? Did you bring them with you to the showers earlier?"

Once Thane found everything he needed, he would be less nervous too. But for now, he needed to find his shoes. Those were kind of important, though he didn't really know anyone who would be surprised if he showed up in his socks.
"Why would I take my shoes to the showers?" Thane asked, pulling his head out from under his bed. He took another useless look around the room. He supposed it was worth a shot: he didn't see them anywhere else.
"I'll be right back," he said, padding out of the room and down to the showers. A moment later, he came back with his comb in hand, but still no shoes. "How does this happen, Leo? How many places could you possibly put a pair of shoes?"

Leo shook his head and got up from the bed. Thane's amazing forgetfulness never ceased to amaze him. "Good Godric, Thane, with you they could be anywhere. Think about it for a minute. When was the last time you saw them? Where were you? We're going to have to retrace your steps."

Thane sighed. "If I knew the last place I saw them, they wouldn't be lost, would they? I wish Gwen wasn't busy getting all dressed up. She'd know where they were."
He collapsed onto his bed, half heartedly looking around the room. They had to be somewhere. What on earth would Regina think if he showed up in socks?
"You know what, I don't care. I'll wear my regular shoes. No one will notice that I'm not in dress shoes." His eyes flicked to Leo, who he was mildly jealous of. He knew where all of his things were and wasn't running around like a hippogriff with its head cut off looking for shoes. Thane almost laughed. "They won't notice, right?"

Leo frowned. He was still sure that Thane's dress shoes had to be around here somewhere. If they had been Gryffindors, Leo would have suspected that one of the other boys had hidden them as a prank. But most of the other Ravenclaw boys were far too serious for that sort of behavior. Certainly none of the Ferrera boys would do such a thing. But the shoes had to be somewhere.
"Let me look on my side of the room again," he said, getting up from his bed. "And did you check the common room?"
