She nodded. She'd told him twice now that he could go, and he said twice he would stay, so she accepted it.
"Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm still kind of spooked to be alone."
She finally came around and sat down on the couch next to him, running a hand through her hair. And then, she was quiet, because she didn't really know what to say.

He didn't say anything for a while, either. He was too busy thinking. He had let this go on too long. And it wasn't that he didn't trust Angelique to catch these guys, but... they were targeting him. He was sure as hell not going to just sit back and allow these guys to go after the people he cared about. He was going to fight back, whatever it took.
"I swear to you, nothing like this is going to happen again. I'll make sure of it."

"I know you won't," Lina said, sighing deeply. Mara, in the next room, was very quiet. The whole apartment was eerily quiet.
"Can you do me a favor? Besides, you know, being careful yourself? If I promise to tell Jensen what happened, can you not tell Cyrus? I just don't think it's something he needs to hear yet."
He would never leave her alone, and she couldn't be that close to him and not be with him.

Oddly enough, Cyrus was not even on his mind. He should have been, but he hadn't really been a factor lately, so somehow it had never even occurred to Roland to tell Cyrus.
"Cyrus and I aren't really in contact right now," Roland said quietly. "I won't tell him. It would just be another wrong reason for him to propose."
He was joking, and yet, there wasn't even a hint of a smile on his face. "Just make sure you tell Jensen everything. And I'll put up some protective charms around the house before I leave."
He said nothing about being careful himself.

"I'll tell him as soon as he gets home." She wanted to ask if Roland thought Jensen was in trouble too, but maybe it was just better to assume that he was if she was.
When they weren't talking, the silence was oppressive, and all she could hear was the now steady beat of her heart and the ticking of the clock. Her hands were clasped together in her lap, and she wished she had something to do.
"I swear he'll be home soon," she whispered, though there was a sudden edge of worry to her tone.

After Hogsmeade was practically destroyed, so was Jensen's shop. He was working on helping people rebuild it, and luckly they did get the outside fixed, so that today, he could work on the inside while it started to snow outside. Lina was at home with sick Mara, but he had a bad feeling. However, he didn't know what about.
He finished some of the shop, but it wasn't ready to open again yet. Jensen left the store and headed home, although he was a few minutes later than when he usually got off. Taking precautions as he made it home, Jensen opened the door and walked in. Seeing Roland made him raise his eyebrows in question. "Hey Roland," he said closing and locking the door behind him. Looking to Lina, there was something not right. "What's going on?"

Roland stood up. "Jensen, I'm glad you're home. There was an... incident. Lina went into town earlier and was attacked by a man in a black cloak and hood. I arrived in time to help her and chase the guy away, but I'm afraid he might come back. Apparently, he'd been watching her for a while."
His voice was heavy as he spoke, but he was no longer panicked. He already knew what he had to do. The important thing for right now was that he made sure Lina would be safe.

"An incident?" A look of worry crossed Jensen's face. He looked from Lina to Roland. The guy had been watching Lina for awhile? This was not sitting right with Jensen, and he was going to make sure that his sister and niece would remain safe. He knew that Roland was going to do the same.
Jensen's eyes hardened for a moment, then looked to Roland. "I can take off for a few days. I'm not doing anything but cleaning the shop up. It can survive being messy for a little while longer."

Roland nodded. "OK, that sounds good."
He glanced over Jensen's shoulder to Lina, a worried look in his eyes, then back to Jensen. "I'm going to set up some protections around the house. Why don't you come out with me, and I'll show you how to undo or redo them in case of an emergency?"

He ran a hand over his face. Jensen knew that he was going to be sleeping lightly now. "Sounds good to me," he said nodding. Jensen looked over to Lina. "We'll be right back." He gave her a light smile and then unlocked the door and opened it again. "I appreciate you showing up for my sister Roland, and of course setting the charms around the house."
There was still apart of him that was worried about what happened. As Jensen and Roland stepped outside, Jensen sighed. "What can I do about keeping Lina safe? You and I both know that if she wants to go out, she's going to go out."

Roland sighed. "Please don't thank me. This was my fault. These guys... they were trying to get to me. They know I'm friends with Lina and they were sending me a message. I don't think the intention was really to hurt Lina or Mara, just to scare me."
He hesitated for a minute, looking at Jensen seriously. "You won't have to keep her in here long. I'm going to make sure they don't come near her again. It won't be more than a day or two, I promise. Just keep her inside until you hear from me or my partner, Riley Neves."

"Still, you were able to stop anything, even if the man was going to do anything, and that does deserve a thanks." Even though the man was probably trying to scare Roland, the man could have just decided to hurt Lina and Mara, just for kicks. Jensen was grateful for Roland's timing. Who knows how he would have been if his sister and/or niece were injured.
"I'll do my best to keep her in. If she needs anything from the store, I'll go get it myself, but I think we're fine for a couple of days at least. But I'll be waiting to hear from you, or your partner."

Roland knew he wasn't going to win with them.. both Lina and Jensen were going to continue to thank him, even though he didn't deserve their thanks. What else could he do but accept it?
So he just nodded quietly. "That'll be fine. It won't be long. I'm going to send someone over with a potion for Mara's cold... Probably someone from the MLE. They can keep an eye on the house, if you want."

He shook his head. "No, they don't have to watch the house. I do believe with the charms, we'll be fine. Sending someone over with Mara's cold medicine will be fine." Jensen didn't want a bunch of things to cause some kind of attention to the house. Besides, if he had to, he could protect Lina and Mara well enough.
"Thanks for the offer though, but I think we'll be alright for a few days." He gave a half smile to Roland.

Roland hesitated. He was tempted to insist on a guard for the house, but he understood why Jensen didn't want that. "OK. It should be fine."
He quickly went about putting up the charms, explaining each one to Jensen as he went. It took several minutes, and when he was done, he turned back to Jensen. "I'll give the person with the potions a code word. Do not let anyone through without that code word, except for my partner Riley, or Cyrus. The code word will be feather. Got it?"

Jensen listened carefully to everything Roland was telling him about the charms. He would remember fairly well which charm did what. "Code word, got it," he said. "I'll make sure they tell me what it is." He looked from the house back to Roland.
"I know that I've said this before, and I know that you probably don't really want me to tell you again, but I do appreciate this. Not just for helping Lina, but for charms on the house."

Roland waved his hand dismissively. "Seriously, it's nothing. Stop thanking me. It wouldn't even be necessary if not for me. But I think of Lina almost like a sister. I'd do anything to protect her. I know you'll do the same."
He looked around once more, then went back into the house. "That should do it," he said to Lina.
His voice was too bright, almost unnaturally so, and his smile didn't touch his eyes. "You should be safe in here until I take care of the problem. Wait here for me or Riley to tell you it's OK to leave."

Lina looked up as they came back inside, frowning slightly. She was still obviously shaken up by the whole thing, but like she told Roland, she was home safe now, and everything was okay. She and Mara were fine.
She stood up from the couch and nodded. "Thank you, Roland. Please be careful."

Roland pulled her into a hug. Given the circumstances, this wouldn't normally be unusual, but Roland was not generally the "hugging" type. It was very rare for him to initiate a hug.
"It's going to be all right, I promise. I'll take care of this for you, and you won't have to worry."
He then pressed a kiss on the top of her head before pulling away. "I have to go now. Someone will come by in a little while with something for Mara."

It was ominous more than weird, and Lina frowned.
"Hey... come by and check on us in a day or two, okay?" She told him when he pulled away, giving him a worried look. She didn't like the way he was talking, but Roland wasn't stupid. He would be careful. She just wanted to make sure that he had some reason to be careful, and if looking in on her and Mara and Jensen was it, then Lina didn't mind.
