Genevieve could hardly contain her excitement on the evening of the ball. Her dress, a beautiful shimmery pink dress that was trimmed in tiny silver sparkles and flowed to the ground in a straight, elegant line, hung above her door, just waiting to be worn. She smiled happily as she looked over at it, her hair still up in curlers.
She was also planning to help Eve get ready, of course. But Eve was no where to be found, and Genevieve was beginning to worry. What was taking her so long? She was very anxious to begin making Eve beautiful for Josh.

Lance, meanwhile, was in the boys' room, laying on his bed and reading a book. It was so much simpler getting ready when you were a boy. You threw on some dress robes, maybe brushed your hair, and you were all set to go.
Except that his stomach was tied up in knots. He felt like he was setting himself up to make a fool of himself. And part of him was anxious to see both the girls all dolled up.
He didn't even look over at his brother's bed, where he just instinctively knew Eve would be. She would leave soon to get ready... but until then, he wasn't worried about getting ready himself.

Eve thought that perhaps she wouldn't see Josh at all until the dance, that she'd hide away and then with Viv's help she'd magically turn into a princess and Josh would be stunned, but the thought of spending so much time away from him actually physically pained her.
She hadn't stayed away from him at all, it was only the thought of doing something that hurt and that was...foreboding. She was already afraid that her attachment to him was growing at an exceeding rate. What she had always perceived as a closeness for the twins and Viv had remained but as a side part her relationship with Josh had become frighteningly obsessive. She wanted to be around him all the time, she couldn't sleep unless he was there, she couldn't concentrate unless he was around, and she found out that all she was concentrating on was him when he wasn't around. She could also always tell the difference between both brothers, she instinctively knew who was Lance and who was Josh, but as of late it seemed to her that Josh's shoulders had gotten a bit more broad, he was a little taller, a little more handsome...
No, she could definitely not, not spend time with Josh, otherwise she'd be thinking about him in those terms all day, so she sought him out. She stopped denying herself his comfort after the attack that almost took her life, she still hadn't talked much about it but she was so lucky to have people who loved her be there to listen to her or just hold her hand since she didn't talk much. When she thought about how close she came to leaving them all behind she usually had to find one of them and just hold on for a long time. She had done so just a bit earlier to Josh and ended up falling asleep in his bed the way she usually did.

Tonight was going to be the dance. Frankly, Josh was pretty excited. He wanted to see what Eve would look like tonight. After the attack, he worried about her more, but she recovered and that was what mattered. He didn't mind the fact that they spent a lot of time together. In fact, it seemed to make his days better.
Eve was curled into him while she slept. Josh, himself, had taken a nap. He slowly woke up and then glanced over to where Lance was on his bed, then back over to Eve. Josh smiled lightly at her sleeping form. He hated to disturb her, but he knew that Viv would be looking for her. "Eve," he said quietly, waking her up. "It's time to wake up."

Eve wrinkled her nose, fighting against the growing awareness she felt hearing his voice. It was time to get up so he said but her sleepy mind registered no good reason for such a thing. Then with sudden clarity her eyes opened. Today was the dance and she had to get ready. She smiled up at her date, " How long have I been asleep?" she inquired softly not yet moving or rushing to the door.

He laughed softly as she wrinkled her nose. "About an hour," Josh responded. "I figured that I would wake you up before Viv started to come look for you." He said with a smile. "We wouldn't want her to drag you up the stairs, would we?" Josh looked at her teasingly. Tonight was going to be wonderful. The four of them were going to the dance, and they were going to have fun. That was already a given. Seeing Eve dressed up, Josh had a feeling that his jaw was going to hit the floor. To him, Eve already looked amazing the way she was.

Genevieve was getting desperate. It wasn't that she thought Eve needed a lot of work to look good. She honestly believed that Eve was very pretty all on her own. But the idea of fixing her hair and makeup and making her look her very best was just too exciting for Genevieve. She simply couldn't wait another minute.
So, despite the fact that she was in a bathrobe and had curlers in her hair, she marched up to the boys' dormitory and into Lance and Josh's room. She knew that Eve sometimes slept there, and although she did not believe anything improper happened in there, she still pretended she didn't know.
"Eve!" she said desperately. "Come on, it's time to get ready! You're going to look so beautiful when I'm done."

The last thing Lance expected was for Viv to come into the room like she owned it. His first thought was that even in a bathrobe and curlers, she looked beautiful, and he sat up straight on the bed, watching her instead of Eve and his brother.
"Hey Viv," he said, smiling somewhat crookedly.

Genevieve's eyes widened and she shielded her face with one hand. "Lance! Don't look at me... I'm not ready!" But she giggled. "Honestly, look at you lot! You're all just lying around, and no one is getting ready."
She perched one hand on her hip, and in spite of herself, she smiled over at Lance. Whenever he gave her that smile of his, she just melted. "You weren't supposed to see me this way."

Eve honestly couldn't make herself move from the spot. She never wanted to move when Josh was around and holding her she didn't see why this dance was so important...then again Viv was going to doll her up and perhaps...just perhaps Josh would be impressed.
She was completely caught off guard when Viv appeared in the room and she had the decency to blush. She knew she was no super sleuth but she had hoped that no one knew that she slept in Josh's bed every now and again, and more often as of late and since the attack. What must people think of her? Not that she ever cared too much but she didn't like the thought that someone she did care about thought that she was doing improper things.
"Viv!" she said startled but then Lance went all goo goo eyes and Eve stifled a giggle and turned back to Josh, "I think nap time's officially over."

Once the dorm room's door opened, Josh knew who it was going to be. He looked back to Eve. "I told you she was going to come after you if you didn't go to her," he said in a whisper. He gave a laugh, and then looked back to Lance and Viv. Josh hid his smile when Lance went dreamy eyed with Viv. Josh did the same thing when he looked at Eve.
"I suppose so, and I suppose you better get going before Lance starts getting really mushy while we're in here," he said whispering to her again. Josh gave her a wide grin and then kissed her forehead. "I'll see you tonight."

Lance almost laughed when Viv tried to hide herself from him. He got up from his bed and threw a pillow at Josh's bed... it didn't really matter which of them he hit.
He pulled Viv's hand from her face. "You could go to the ball like this, and I would still be dancing with the most beautiful girl there." He had the urge to kiss her, but he didn't know if they were there yet, so he just gave her a smile, and settled for kissing her cheek.
"We'll see you in a bit."

The pillow hit her and she oomphed at the unexpected force before giggling and snuggling once more against Josh, she didn't see anything wrong with letting Lance have a little gaga time with Viv, she was only happy that Josh's eyes didn't stray to Viv either curse her for her insecurity, but Viv was so pretty.
She pushed those thoughts out of her head and nodded to Josh before leaning into his kiss then turning to look over her shoulder at Viv and Lance then smiled, " Well I'm ready when you are..."

Eve's jaw dropped when Viv took such a strong initiative with Lance and her eyes widened a bit she would have nudged Josh if she wasn't so stunned herself, quickly she tried to shut her mouth and look as if she wasn't watching what she was obviously watching but the color on her face was a dead give away anyway. As propriety demanded she averted her eyes and waited for them to finish.

Josh noticed that Eve seemed to freeze and he turned his head to look toward Lance and Viv, and his eyes widened as Viv kissed his brother. He wanted to make a comment, but for once, Josh was going to be quiet. He knew that Lance had been wanting to do something like that, but it seemed as if Viv took the first step forward.
Now, it was just Josh's turn to do the same with Eve, at some point. They had shared one kiss before, but neither of them ever talked about it. He reached an arm out and put it around Eve as he turned and looked toward her, to give Lance and Viv some privacy. He told Lance before that he was going to tell Eve how he felt on the night of the dance, and tonight he was going to make sure he told her. The little kisses that he gave her everywhere but her lips, they meant more. Friends didn't really just randomly kiss their friends, even if it was on the cheek. Tonight was to just tell her the reasoning behind it.

Not that Eve was really aware of what normal friends did, Josh, Lance and Viv were her only real friends, she didn't socialize that much and she was happy with her circle, they cared for her and always made her happy. Of course she did notice that Josh seemed more affectionate with her, but at the same time they had grown up together his attention could be brotherly and she wouldn't have known.
When Josh stole her attention her surprised look softened and she smiled at him as if they both knew that Viv and Lance had been happening all along just as she and Josh had been getting closer.

Hearing his brother's reaction to Viv kissing him, Josh got a hint that he and Eve didn't really need to be there. "Um, Eve," he said, "remember I was going to help you, er, find that book you were looking for." Josh said trying to make up an excuse just in case Viv noticed that they gone, however he didn't think that she would.
Still in his pajama pants and t-shirt, Josh got out of bed and grabbed Eve's hand and quickly and quietly headed for the door. Looking back, he gave Lance a huge grin and led Eve out of the room, closing the door quietly behind them.
"Well," Josh said to Eve, "I suppose we all know the result of them talking and stuff. I just thought that we should give them sometime to themselves. Besides, everyone else is getting ready, so the couches should be empty."

Eve was looking for an excuse to leave anyway, although she couldn't help but glance backwards when Josh was escorting her out, it was just strange to see actual proof of the changes happening between them all, and Eve in her naive way was simply awed by it and a little frightened too. She accepted the growing closeness between herself and Josh as a wonderful thing. She even took his kisses and relished them with glee, but not once did she think that they were really going to take the next step and become a couple, or well perhaps she thought about it more than once, okay so she thought about it all the time, but she usually wrote it off as fantasy.
She shook her head trying to clear it and followed Josh into the common room nodding at his words though not really paying much attention to anything until they sat down, " I...that was...different" she said with a shy hesitant smile.
