Jonesy was sitting out buy the Whomping Willow, reading his charms book, and genuiliney bored with mostly everything that day. He wished someone would come by so her could entertain himself, preferably a pretty girl-someone. A pretty girl-someone without a big scarry boyfriend that could potentially kill Jonesy with his bare hands...

Colette liked to go out every once in a while to admire the Whomping Willow. It wasn't long ago that this part of the lawns was baren aside from a few large boulders that Colette now used to sit on as she watched the tree bat away birds, rabbits, and other small animals. She was not alone when she arrived, a cute Gryffindor boy by the ridiculious name of Jonesy was sitting there. She sat not far from him and watched as he read his book.

Jonesy's hair on the back on his neck prickled. Someone was watching him. He slowly closed his book and turned around, catching Colette Borgin, a Slythering girl in his year, watching him. "Well hello Miss Borgin," Jonesy's face spread into a hundred watt smile. "and how long have you been sitting there?" he asked.

"Long enough to notice you're not actually enjoying that book," she said, pointing to his charms book. She moved to sit on a closer boulder where he wouldn't have to turn around to speak with her. "You chose an odd spot to study," she remarked.

"Eh, well," Jonesy shrugged and held up his book. "Never really did like charms all that much," he said. Jonesy turned when Colette moved to a closer rock. "I always study here," Jonesy said. "It got wierd when they planted that," he gestured to the Whomping Wilow. "But I keep my distance." he knew better than to get to close to that tree.
"Besides, it's not bad hanging out here," he smiled at Colette. "there's always a pretty girl that drops by every once and a while." Jonesy winked at Colette.

Colette looked at the tree. "Yeah, this used to be a real nice piece of land," she said sarcastically. The whole hillside was covered with large boulders. Even before the whomping willow was planted, no one would have called this side of the lawn attractive.
Colette smiled a little as Jonesy winked at her. Ever since her brothers teased her that day in the store about boys and whatnot, Colette had been more aware of all the attractive guys at school. "Oh? Is that why you come out here, to catch girls?"

"Catch is such a...uh...negative way to say it," Jonesy said with a sly grin. "But yes. Here, the courtyard, the library," Jonesy shrugged and then laughed. "But honest, I was just studying," He said.
"Now what brings you here?" Jonesy asked, placing his chin in his hands and looking at Colette.

Colette laughed boisterously. Jonesy was not shy about his motives, she liked that. She also liked his laugh. "Sure, studying, right." She pulled her feet up onto the rock and crossed her ankles, holding them with her hands to balance herself. "I just like to look at this thing," she said of the tree. "Not really any other reason than that."

Jonesy feigned shock that Colette didn't believe him. "What? I was!"? Jonesy said, laughing, but he didn't really care all that much. "This thing?" Jonesy pointed to the tree as it swung and swayed. "To tell you the truth," jonesy blushed. "That tree scares the bloody hell outta me." he laughed again.

"And yet you come here to lure girls...that's brave." Colette was fascinated with the tree. Why was it here? Why did they plant it here two years ago, and not before? And who on earth would think this thing made sense for a school? Of all the strange things at Hogwarts this was by far the strangest.

"Well I AM a Gryffindor, we're meant to be brave," Jonesy stuck out his chest and smiled triumphetly. "Why di you think they planted it here anyway?" he asked, looking at the tree, only two years old here at Hogwarts.

Colette giggled when he showed off his Gryffindor-ness. She liked Jonesy for things like that, on the rare occasion that she spoke with him. He made her laugh.
Colette looked back to the tree and quirked an eyebrow. "To punish the first years?" she joked. There was no way Colette would actually know why it was planted, and when presented with the question of what she thinks might have caused the planting, she usually came up with some sort of punishment.

"Yea, or at least scare them," Jonesy agreed. "I'll tell you if I was a first year and that was my punishment...i'd be the most well behaved kid you ever met." he laughed. It wasn't to say that Jonesy was some sort of miscreant, but he did have a way of bending the rules to their breaking point sometimes.

"I be Filch wishes he could make detentions revolve around watering that thing. He always seems to get a kick out of talking about 'the good old days' I'm sure this would appease him a bit."

Jonesy nodded. "Let's not give him any ideas huh?" he said with a laugh. He looked over at the whomping willow which was swaying viciously. Jonesy decided that he was content with the amount of time he spent near the tree and suddenly jumped off of the boulder he had been sitting on. "Been sitting too long," Jonesy said. "Bad for the legs, want to walk?" he asked.

Colette laughed. "I wasn't planning on it. I never know when I might get a detention, and I certainly don't want to be forced over there," she waved at the tree. When Jonesy got up and asked if she wanted to join him, she nodded. "That sounds alright. Want to amp up the danger proximity and check out the forest?"

Jonesy raised his eyebrow, clearly likeing the idea of venturing into the forest. "Well I dunno Colette," Jonesy said. He held out his hand to offer to help her down from the boulders. "I wouldn't want you to get scared or anything," he smiled.
