[Remus Lupin]

"Well, but you were leaving for your protection. Just not the exact reason he told you. He told you closer to the truth than he told me," Remus said. "I... I'll leave with you in a minute. But I'm not quite ready to face him."

[Kris Lupin]

"I'll be right here if you want to talk." She said looking at the ground.

[Remus Lupin]

"Well, what more is there to say?" Remus said. "This year has been the weirdest ever. I made a lot of great friends, I had a girlfriend, I met a werewolf pack who took me in, and everything seemed to be going great. Then all of a sudden, I find out I have a sister I don't remember, my father's been lying to me, and my girlfriend is dead. I feel like I've been on one of those Muggle amusement rides I read about in a book--a roller coaster. Only I think I fell off of it." He looked at her and sighed. "Don't get me wrong... you're OK. And I guess I'm glad to have a sister. That I'm not alone. But when I look at you, all I see are the lies I was told. It's not fair!" he yelled.

[Kris Lupin]

Kris kept her eyes on the floor. "Well, every time I saw you this year I was reminded of the life I never had, I mean, we were close. Even though I knew it wouldn't happen, I always looked through the mail just in case he wrote. I envy you, Remus, you had them, I didn't get not even the littlest sign that they still cared."

[Remus Lupin]

"But maybe you were better off," Remus said. "Their idea of caring about me was to lie to me and keep things from me. They lied to you, too, but at least they only did it once. After that, you got to be with a woman who cared for you. She was nice to you, right? I almost wish they'd sent me away, too."

[Kris Lupin]

"All these years and you're still as stubborn as ever." Kris said shaking her head and grinning. "Mom thought that it was just a phaze." She sighed then ran a hand through her hair. She stood up then whispered, "I'm sorry I ruined your great life, I just wanted to get close to my brother again." She turned and started walking away.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus stood up. "Wait! Kris... don't go, OK?" He sighed and kicked the suit of armor again. "Look, you didn't ruin it, OK? That's what I'm trying to tell you. You didn't ruin anything. My perfect life, as you call it, was anything but perfect. I was alone. I was scared. I cried most nights and I didn't want to tell Dad that I was lonely, because it was my own fault I was lonely. Because of my... condition... we couldn't be around most people. People in the old neighborhood... they knew. Dad lost his job at the Ministry and Mom lost her job at St. Mungo's and all of it was MY fault! Because I was stupid enough to get bitten. But what I didn't know is that I didn't have to be alone. I had you, and they were keeping you from me! Don't you see... they were the ones who ruined my life, by lying to me and keeping you from me! None of this is your fault, it's theirs. I don't know how I'm supposed to forgive that!"

[Kris Lupin]

Kris turned and looked at him. "It wasn't your fault dad made that stupid werewolf rule, and it wasn't your fault you were bit. Now if you had just stood there and let it happen then it would have been, but you were attacked because of that rule. When he came to be he was turning me against the family, he almost got me to give you to him. I didn't but I was so close to doing it, when the moon came up I was froze to the tree. My brain was saying run but my legs didn't move. It was the second worse day I ever had."

[Remus Lupin]

"I'm sorry..." Remus said. "That must have been scary for you." He sighed. "Look, I know it wasn't my fault. Now. But I didn't know that then. Dad should have told me the truth all along. And he never should have sent you away. It didn't do any good, anyway, because now you're a werewolf, too. By sending you away, he made things worse all around. And it's not your fault Greyback bit you. You were scared. You couldn't move. It happens. Don't ever think it was your fault, anymore than it was my fault for staying out later than I was supposed to."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris smiled slightly. "Are you ready to go back down there? I'll be the middle-man if you want." She was trying to get him to smile.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus folded his arms across his chest. "Fine. I'll go. But I'm not talking to him."

[Kris Lupin]

"You don't have to." Kris said, she walked over to him then put her arm around his shoulders. "If he says anything you need to answer tell me and I'll tell him." She ruffled his hair then gave him a hug.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus managed a slight smile. "OK, thanks," he said. "Let's go, then." He started to walk down the stairs.
