Sending the letter

[Remus Lupin]

Remus walked slowly up to the Owlery. He didn't want to do it, but he had to send the letter to his father. Things were getting more serious by the moment, since the girl refused to give up her claim that she was his sister. The thing that puzzled him most of all was the fact that she knew he was a werewolf. He'd always been very careful to keep that secret, and now she had gone and told Sirius. But how did she know? The only person, other than the pack members, who knew, was Rori, and he knew she would never say a word to anyone. What if she was telling the truth after all?

He didn't want to believe it. he didn't want to find out that his father, who, for the longest time, was the only person he could ever really count on, had lied to him. But now that Sirius was dating the girl, and had made him believe, he had to find out for himself.

With the letter in hand, he reached the top step and walked into the Owlery. He chose a small barn owl near the bottom and tied the letter to its leg. Then he let it fly through the big open window and disappear.

He sighed. "I hope I did the right thing."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris walked into the owlery not knowing that anyone was in there. She liked going there to think she still hadn't noticed anyone being there when she leaned on a wall. She was blinking back tears as she slid down the wall and sat on the floor.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus turned toward the door and noticed a movement in the corner. At first he thought it was just an owl, but he heard a sniffle. "Who's there?" he said nervously.

[Kris Lupin]

"No one you care about." Kris muttered looking up to see Remus. She looked away from him wiping away the tears that escaped. She wondered if he comes here to think as well.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus wanted to scream, but as usual, he held back. "So, what are you following me now?" He sighed. "Look, I hope you're happy, OK? I just sent my dad a letter asking about you. I had to ask the only person who's been there for me all my life if he lied to me."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris stood up and looked at him. "No, I'm not going to be happy until you believe me." She kicked back to hit the wall. "I wish I could have stayed in America. At least you'd be happy."

[Remus Lupin]

"Well, I don't believe you," Remus said sourly, crossing his arms over his chest. "But I don't understand how you know what I am. Unless you're some spy sent by that freak Greyback to try and scare me and spill my secret."

[Kris Lupin]

"Greyback? You think I am working for him? I hate him for attacking you! I've always thought, maybe if I had been there...maybe I could have tried to protect you like I promised Mom I would. I've always blamed myself for what happened." Kris said fresh tears falling down her face.

[Remus Lupin]

For a split second, Remus almost felt sorry for her. Almost. Even if she was crazy and delusional, she clearly seemed to believe what she was saying. And she was genuinely upset. "OK," he said. "So you don't work for Greyback. But do you understand how creepy it is for me to hear you talk about stuff you can't possibly know about? I swear, I don't remember you. And I don't believe my parents would just cover up the fact that I have a sister out there. It's very confusing, you know?"

[Kris Lupin]

Kris nodded. "Yes, I understand. I never thought that they would take me out completely. If...if it will make you happy, I'll stop talking about being your sister." She said quietly hanging her head.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus nodded. "OK. And... well... since you're dating my best friend, I guess I can try to be a little nicer. I'm not usually... like this... But if I get that letter back from my dad and he says that you're lying... well..." He sighed. "Just don't go telling anyone else what I am, OK? If the wrong people find out, I could be forced to leave school."

[Kris Lupin]

"I wont, I swear I wont." Kris said looking at him. "What will you do if he says I'm not lying? I just want to know so I can be ready for the reaction." She leaned back against the wall.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus frowned and looked away. "I... I don't know," he said honestly. "I mean, don't expect me to be all hugs and kisses or anything. But... I guess I'll have to wait and see." He rubbed the back of his head and looked at her. "Um, I have to go. My girlfriend, Sabrina, wants to get back together with me and we're going to spend the day together." He started for the stairs and then paused and looked back at her. "I'm sorry I was a jerk earlier." Then he rushed down the stairs to catch up with Sabrina.
