"Yeah," Riley said, though she didn't really know how they were both just being stupid. She didn't actually care to ask. They were back together now, and none of the details were really her business.
When she mentioned how the women in the department weren't treated as equals, she nodded. "Yes, I suppose we should." She was feeling Andromeda out for now. "Merlin only knows how Angelique does it." Riley actually admired Angelique quite a lot, and that was part of the reason.

Andi smiled. "I know. There's so much pressure on her, and she's handling it so well. She's tough and doesn't take crap from anyone. I think it's because she's American. It gave her that little extra attitude, you know?"
There were some chips sitting on a nearby table, and Andi picked up the bowl and offered some chips to Riley. "How are you doing on the case, by the way? I still feel so awful... that girl was in my class and I don't think I would have recognized her if I saw her."

"No thank you," Riley said to the chips. She was still sort of easing into the house. It was funny, a girl as confident and take charge as she was, Riley was very uncomfortable in situations like this. She just didn't know how to act, and it was funny and ridiculous even to her.
Her shoulders seemed to visibly fall when Andromeda mentioned the case, though. Work, she could handle. "Well, we still haven't solved the case," she admitted. "But I think Roland and I are getting really close. To be honest, we think we know who it was. We just need proof and to fill in some of the details. We can't make any accusations until then."

Andi saw the shoulder slump, and interpreted it as a reluctance to talk about her partner. Andi could understand that. And even though she was actually very curious to see if she could get a sense of how Riley felt about Roland, she also didn't want to push. Riley seemed like the type who wouldn't put up with that sort of thing. So she resolved to keep the topic away from Roland as much as possible. She would not bring up his name.
Of course, there was something in the fact that Riley herself had mentioned his name, without prompting...
"That's great," Andi said, her voice sounding bright and positive. "It really will be a relief to have the killer behind bars. So much is going wrong these days, that it really would help a lot to accomplish something. We have to focus on the small victories. I wish I was doing as well with my case. We should probably coordinate, actually, and discuss possible death eaters at Hogwarts. So far... Well, I have one possibility, but I really hope I'm wrong."

Riley considered this, but she didn't actually know how much she could say about their suspects.
"I don't really know about possible Death Eaters, honestly... there's no link yet between Katie's murder and the Death Eaters, but it would make sense, I know. And I don't really know how much I could tell you, anyway. I do know we have three suspects that are all currently working at the school."

Andi nodded. "Yeah, I understand. I guess I should check with Angelique on that first. I understand you can't talk too much about the case, but since I am working there, if there's anything I can help you with, please, feel free to ask. I might be able to give you some additional insights."
She took a couple of chips from the bowl and placed them on a napkin, then glanced back at Riley. "Oh, I heard you met my cousin Fabian for lunch the other day," she said. "That must have been fun... Fabian is such a fun guy to spend time with. You should see him with his brother Gideon. The two of them... they're like a comedy team."

"Thank you," Riley said. "Roland and I intended to talk to you, actually. Then things just got in the way, I think, and then the attack..." She trailed off and shook her head. "Just keep an eye on the students. I would hate to think that anyone else might be hurt before we can bring the person responsible to justice." Riley lowered her voice. "We're fairly certain the person responsible is still at Hogwarts.... just be safe."
She was caught off guard by the sudden change of topics, and looked back up at Andi. 'I didn't know you were related," she said, and then wondered how she heard. Surely gossip wasn't that bad. She also refrained from mentioning that Fabian said she would like Gideon.
"Yes, he is rather fun to spend time with," she said, almost diplomatically. "I hear his sister is a force to be reckoned with, too."

Andi could be very observant when she wanted to be, and she couldn't help but notice the slightest flare in Riley's eyes when she said Roland's name. It was subtle, almost imperceptible, unless you were looking for it, which Andi was. There was also something in the inflection of her voice... it almost made Andi wonder if she was looking too hard to see any indication of the woman's feelings toward her partner.
Andi's conclusion was that Riley felt something for him, but she was a lot further away from realizing it than Roland apparently was. Andi also couldn't quite determine the depth of Riley's feelings. Not without directly discussing him. And she knew better than to bring it up right now.
When Riley mentioned Molly, Andi pulled herself back into the conversation with a soft laugh. "Yes... Molly. She can be a fiercely loyal friend, or a vicious enemy. Speaking as one of the former, I can tell you, you do not want to be the latter." She shook her head. "Godric forbid anyone try to hurt someone she cares about... She's like a tornado. She really launched into Ted when he broke up with me... and I'm a little worried about how she'll react when she hears we're back together."

Riley laughed as Andi described Molly. "Oh, wonderful. I think I'm positively terrified to meet her." Although, she had to admire someone who were so fiercely loyal to a person. When push came to shove, a lot of people backed down. She liked to think that she wouldn't back down, but she didn't know. No one really knew their limits until they were pushed.
"How are things at the school?" She asked, trying for more small talk.

Andi shrugged. "Oh, you know. It's school. The kids are all still pretty freaked out about the Hogsmeade attack... they're trying to arrange a tribute for the kids that died. And they're trying to distract themselves with talk of the Yule Ball. I'm just glad they're all able to be home with their families for Christmas, you know? It's been a rough term so far."

Riley nodded. "You can't blame them. I'm actually glad the Yule Ball wasn't cancelled. They need something to look forward to. I can't imagine what they're all going through. They've lost so many of their classmates."
She wished it stopped with Katie, or that none of it happened at all, but she had a terrible feeling that this was far from over. They had a long battle ahead of them.
"They're all actually quite strong, to be able to handle this in any way."

Andi nodded. "I know. It's so horrible. Did you know... one of the girls that died in the attack was Katie's best friend? They said she was very heroic, helping other students escape, and then she fought with a death eater... it was a terrible fight and she was so brave... the poor thing. I hope you and Roland got a chance to talk to her for your investigation."
There were so many sad stories that had come out of the attack. And there were good stories, too, of love and heroism and redemption. She and Ted may have found their way back together because of the attack, but so many other people lost loved ones. It wasn't fair.

Riley nodded. "Yes, I heard. It's terrible," she said.
She licked her lips, unsure whether to continue or change the topic, so she kind of did a little of both. "I've heard quite a few of the patients at the school have been released. That's good news." Tonks, of course, was one of them, so of course Andi knew about that.
"Now we just have to rebuild... and we'll be more prepared for the next one."

Andi nodded. "You're absolutely right. We really should focus on being prepared for the future. As horrible as it was, if we can learn from it and how to prevent anything like that from ever happening again, then maybe at least something positive will come from it."
She smiled slightly. "Enough of the work talk, right? I mean, we're here to celebrate a new life... a new family. Again, we have to look to the future, right? And even though bad things may be happening around us, we can't let it stop us from living our lives."

Emily had recieved a note from Isa to come over to her house. She wasn't exactly sure why, but before she left she had to finish up a few things around the house first. Emily found herself attempting to keep busy. She didn't really like sitting still and doing nothing.
Finally, she finished and started toward Isa's house. Emily appeared at the door and took a deep breath to keep her breathing even. She raised her hand and knocked on the door.

The special alarm that Isa had set up to alert her of Emily's arrival went off immediately, and Isabella turned to her guests.
"Shhh, everyone, duck down," she said in a loud whisper. "Emily's here!"
Once everyone was hiding sufficiently, Isabella called loudly, "Come in, Emily, the door's open!"

Curiousity was getting the best of Emily to be honest. She wasn't exactly sure what was going on. Emily heard Isabella's voice through the door. Maybe she was busy doing something and couldn't come to door.
Sighing, Emily reached up and turned the knob, opening the door. Once inside, she made sure to shut the door behind her. "Hey Isa."
