It wasn't often that something triggered Shawna's motherly instincts. For the most part, she tried to pretend she didn't have children. The older they got, the harder it was to hide her age. With the exception of Draven, who still lived at home, she often went months without seeing her children, although she did try to write to Vix, just to make sure she was behaving herself, every couple of weeks.
But after the attack at Hogsmeade, Shawna found herself feeling strangely relieved that her daughter had chosen not to go to Hogsmeade that day. Maybe it was some buried affection for her daughter, or maybe it was just a possessive instinct that couldn't bear the thought of anyone harming something that came from her. But she realized that she wanted to see her daughter, just to ensure that the girl was doing well.
So she owled Vix and asked her to get arrangements to meet her in Diagon Alley for a little mother-daughter shopping trip. When Vix had been very young, Shawna had actually enjoyed shopping with her little girl, buying her pretty things. But Vixie was not the little innocent child anymore, and no longer wore frilly dresses and bows. But perhaps they could find something in common. If there was one thing that Shawna loved, it was shopping.

She could feel it again. The need to vomit. Her nerves were shot, and she hadn't slept the night before, although her flawless appearance didn't show it. The cause of her illness being her mother. Not that she hated the woman, but Shawna always had an ability to make Vix feel a bit nervous. Her mother had written naught but a week ago, and asked if they could have a mother/daughter bonding experience. Vix actually threw up as soon as she had read the letter. Luckily she had been nearby a bathroom and there were no discrepancies.
So with her best foot forward she set out for the day to Diagon Alley. She made sure she looked her absolute best, and for once wore a skirt, just for her mother, always aiming to please when it came to the young and beautiful Shawna Hart.
Vix approached the spot her mother had asked for them to meet at, at the designated time, not wanting to be late, afraid this was all some big joke and her mother wouldn't be there when she arrived, but she was wrong. Shawna was standing, and Vix had to stop a few feet away to admire her mother's youthful face and figure. She really did have a gorgeous mum. She wouldn't say anything a child would say to their parent to Shawna, but no matter. The girls would surely have a great day, so with her hopes high, she approached her mother's side with a broad smile on her pink lips.

Shawna was standing in front of Gringott's, leaning against a pole, eying all the men that walked by as she waited for her daughter to arrive. She had noticed a particularly attractive man with dark hair and a boyish face who was on his way to Gringott's, and she was watching his approach with a soft smile curving her lips. He was married, she could see the wedding ring from here. But of course, little things like that hardly mattered to Shawna. She believed she could have any man she wanted, if she only tried hard enough to convince them. But this one didn't even seem to notice her. She was a little bit insulted, and was pondering doing something to make the man look at her. She could fall, or cry out, or run over and pretend to know him from somewhere...
But she was shaken from these thoughts by the sound of Vixie's voice. Oh, right, she was here to see her daughter. Oh, well. The man was forgotten as she turned to see Vixie approaching her with a smile on her face. "Oh, there you are, dear," she said, her smooth voice sounding cool and emotionless. "I was beginning to think you'd decided to stand me up."
She looked her daughter up and down. She never quite understood Vixie's need to do odd things to her hair. The multi-colored striping just seemed... odd to Shawna. But at least Vix was wearing a skirt and attempting to look like a lady. "You look very nice. Are you ready to go shopping?"

Vix was not surprised that her mother was in a good mood today. She had probably had her one night stand the night before, or even less shocking, before she came to meet up with Vix. It was as if their entire family ignored the fact that her mother had affairs on a nightly basis now. Her father was never home, so what did it matter to Shawna. It's not as if she had received a gold medal for being wife of the year either. The reputation surrounding the Hart family had always been a bit smudged, but they had too much money for people to bother with scandals about them. Vixie just waited for a journalist to be brave enough to write about their discrepancies.
"Hey! How've you been? How are Draven and Damiel? I haven't heard from them in a while," she asked, always ready to learn anything new about her brothers. Although the boys had tortured her quite a bit when they had been around, they all three still loved each other. They were family after all and those were the only brothers she had. . . at least that she knew of!

Shawna's smile was icy. "Hay is for horses, darling," she reminded lightly. When would the girl learn to speak with proper manners? What kind of way was that for her to greet her mother? Kids these days... they just didn't understand the proper ways to speak to people. But of course, she would never say something like that aloud. It would make her sound... old. And she couldn't have that.
"Draven is doing fine," she replied in a disinterested tone. "Damiel... well, your guess is as good as mine. I haven't seen him in a while, either. I did write to him a few days ago... He didn't have much to say for himself. But tell me, dearest. How are you doing? I know the big Yule Ball is coming up at the school next week... do you have a date?"
