Thane would probably be the best in his class if he could only remember where he put his homework.
He had been studying for so long for a test (and he wasn't 100% sure when the test even was, but he thought it best to be prepared anyway) that he just needed to surface from the sea of his books.
He left his books and his notes open and on his bed, to remind him that he needed to get back to them at some point, and the just left the dorm room. He didn't know who might be in the common room, or if everyone was outside enjoying the snow that had been falling for about an hour now. Maybe he'd join them. His sister could probably use some cheering up, too. She hadn't been quite the same since that dinner when Uncle Zach came home, but she wouldn't tell him why.
To his surprise, there were a handful of students in the common room, and Thane hurried to grab a seat by the fire while he still could, sitting down next to Emmeline, a girl he knew a little in passing, but not very well.
"I really hope this seat isn't taken."

Emmeline looked over and shook her head. "Nope. It's open. I was just watching these kids here play some kinda game... How's the studying going?" She didn't know Thane very well, but he was nice and she did know that he never went anywhere without some kinda book or homework with him. And then he'd lose it. And then he would start all over. But that's probably because his brain was on forty different things.
"What test are you even studying for?" Emmeline wasn't one to be unprepared, but she didn't even know about an exam.

Sophie had made it a habit of hanging out in the common room. Most of the time she was studying or reading, but sometimes she had simply come down to people watch. Her mind reeled. After absorbing as much information she could possibly absorb through books, it was time for social experimenting, and she found there was just as much knowledge to be learned by interaction, by watching people, as there was in actual reading. How she had missed so much in the first fifteen years of her life was baffling.

Thane sighed. "I don't even know anymore," he laughed, joking. "I've studied so much I ran out of room in my brain." He smiled and shrugged. "History of Magic. I'm not so good with all of the dates and things, you know?"
He let his eyes wander to the kids she had referenced, watching them play for a moment before he shook his head. "Remember first year? When we had more time for things like that?" She was a couple years behind him, but she would still nderstand.

Sheena was flipping through pages in her text book, she had an exam the next day and realized she hadn't studdied at all. Transfiguration was never easy for her. It took a lot of concentration and Sheena was easily distracted.
She looked up and saw Thane Scotts and Emme Vance talking by the fire. Sophie Stark was there too. Sheena had made sure in the beginning of each year she knew at least all her housemates names. You never know when it could come in handy.
Sheena folded a page in her book and walked over to join the others. "Hey guys," she said, sitting on a stool close to the warm fire.

It was his sister's voice that finally caught Liam's attention. He was reading a book by a muggle author, Tolstoy... his favorite author, actually, and wasn't really paying attention to anyone else in the common room. He didn't even realize Sheena had been there.
He watched them for a moment over his book, quietly.

Sophie looked up from her own book and smiled, " Hi Sheena, do you want a seat?" she asked. Perhaps it was unfair of Sophie but her legs were stretched out on a sofa like structure and she was taking up more room than necessary, but that was before it had become so crowded. She would have scooted over for Thane too but there was an open seat for him.
She brought her legs down and moved her bags.

Sheena waved her hand. "No, It's okay, you look comfortable," Sheena said kindly. She didn't mind the stool. She smiled. "Do either of you have the Transfiguration exam tomorrow, I've been studying all day. " She felt a little overwhelmed from it all actually.

Amandine skipped down the stairs from her dorm and saw that the Common Room had become very crowded. By the fire she saw her cousin chatting away with a bunch of other people, and Ama decided to join them.
She walked past Liam, who was sitting off to the side and looking over his book at his sister. Ama giggled and flicked the back of his ear, not looking at his as she passed her cousin to sit with Sheena. "Hey everyone," Ama said.
Then she whispered to her cousin. "Neena, you're being watched," she whispered, pointing at Liam and waving, a bright smile on her face.

Sheena looked over to Liam and waved as Ama had. "Hold on," she said to the others, getting up and walking over to Liam, "You're welcome to join us you know," She said to her older brother.

Liam's shoulders went up to protect his ears, and he turned to see his cousin walking by him, that happy look about her, and he followed her walk to the couch, where both she and his sister waved at him.
He sighed as Sheena got up, and he closed his book by the time she got to him, giving her his full attention.
"I know. If it's all the same, I'm fine here," he said softly. He was really getting into his book, and going over would just distract him immensely.

Emmeline snorted at the comment about being young. "I know what you mean. I feel so old watching them." She sighed. "I remember back when I was young...." She laughed and rolled her eyes. No one would probably get the joke. Which tended to happen with her.
She turned her attention to the people that had just walked in to the common room. "Hi Sheena, Amandine, and Liam!" She gave a Liam a big cheesy grin, hoping it would make want to join the large they had going.

Sheena smiled and patted her brother on the head with a little laugh. "If you must," she said, smiling. "The offer is always open, Liam," Then she went back to sit with Ama and the others.

Ama giggled at Emme's joke, seemingly being the only one that got that. "Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I am DONE with studing for now," she said, leaning against her cousin.

"Me too," Sheena agreed. Even for being a Ravenclaw, Sheena had a line drawn for studying, too much made her head feel like it was about to explode all over the common room.

Teagan sat in her armchair by the corner, feeling very young and very plain. Most of these people were a few years older than her. She listened quietly to their conversation, not wanting to be a pain. A book lay open in her lap and she glanced at it before looking up again. They were more interesting, anyways.
