It was when Roland finally went off about examples of weird names that Riley stood up.
"We're finished Ms Weaver, and I apologize for my partner. Thank you for your help." She was living and her words were tight and controlled. Forget that she didn't trust Arachne either, but they had to leave now. Roland had ruined any chance of getting more information.
When Arachne had left the room, Riley turned her heated gaze on Roland. "What is your problem?"

"We were never going to get anything out of her," Roland said through his teeth. "She's a good liar, but she's lying about something. And I swear she was trying to get into my head. Did you hear the way she was laying it on thick about family? Do we even know if she actually has wards? Who has wards these days, anyway?"
He took a few breaths and started to walk down the hall, then walked back to her. "You know what? I think we've done enough for today. The students will be breaking for dinner soon. Let's call it a day. I can't do this anymore today."

"Ivan and Anya Kressimer," Riley said, her voice nearly quivering she was so angry with him. "They're Romanian and they just transferred."
AT his suggestion that they call it a day, she nodded slowly. "Frankly, I don't think you do this anymore at all. Go home, Roland." She was restraining herself not to smack him in the back of the head. "We are professionals. Let's try and act like it."

He let out a sharp breath. "We should probably talk to them later," he said. How did she know these things, anyway? They'd both had the same materials to research the case. He didn't recall anything about Ms. Weaver's wards.
"I have to check on something," he said at last. He really couldn't go another minute without checking with Jamie and Amandine. "I'll see you tomorrow."
Then he abruptly walked away, leaving her there.
