[Dierks Brooks]

Dierks was new to Hogwarts. His parents made sure that he was caught up with the other students his age before he actually started school. The first term was almost over, but it was better to start now rather than never.

The weather was extremely cold outside and snow was falling. That was something that Dierks wasn't quite used to. It was not this cold back in Texas, although he knew that he was just going to have to get used to the weather. That wasn't going to be too much of a problem.

On his own tour of the castle, he had gotten turned around twice, but he did find his way back. He passed a room with a bunch of trophies. The room was empty and Dierks decided to check it out. He walked in and began to read each trophy with slight interest.

Julia was wandering through the castle, trying to find a new way to entertain herself for the evening and suddenly found herself among the trophy room. Though never really winning an award herself, Ju liked wandering the room full of awards and prizes and learning about who they were awarded too.

She had just passed behind a rather large trophy awarded to the school when she heard someone else enter the room. Hidden, Ju peaked around the prize and saw a blonde boy with silver and blue-lined robes enter the Trophy Room. Julia tilted her hair to the side. She had never seen this boy before, which was odd, she knew a lot of the students in the school, but not this one.

Julia decided to make an apperence. "Hello," she said, popping out from behind her hiding place.

His old school didn't have this many trophies. They had a lot, but it was not near this amount. Still interested, Dierks continued to read each one. Maybe he could learn a little something more about the school.

Dierks saw a rather large trophy. He had never seen one that huge. As he was reading what it was, movement caught his eye and he stood up. He raised an eyebrow at the girl who seemed to just pop out of nowhere. "Hey," Dierks stated glancing at her robes. Gryffindor, he noted. He gave her a smile in greeting.

She walked toward him, but tripped over the corner of one of the many cases. Julia stumbled, but caught her self before actually hitting the floor with her face. As she righted herself, she half-smiled and brushed at her robes absently. "So, I haven't seen you before, have I?" Ju asked. "Or do you just spend all your time hanging out here?" she gestured to the mass amounts of trophies surrounding them.

Dierks made a move to catch the girl if she fell, but she caught herself. He watched her as she just acted as if she hadn't just tripped. "Ya ain't seen me before," he said with a southern accent. "I just got here and start classes tomorrow. I'm just thought that I would look 'round and see where ever thing was before tomorrow." Dierks smiled again. "I'm Dierks," he said holding out his hand.

"Julia," she replied, taking Dierks' hand. "Good plan, I hated being a first year, I got lost all the time."

She noticed his accent wasn't a brittish one like most of the students here at Hogwarts. "Nice accent," Ju said. "Where are you from?"

[Dierks Brooks]

He laughed. "Yeah. This place is much bigger than my old school so I figured that I should get a head start. It's nice ter meet you Julia."

At least the first person he met at school was nice. Dierks couldn't complain about that. "Er, thanks," he said. "Texas. My mom needed to transfer so my dad said that we'd all move. Thought it was kinda odd that I just moved almost at the end of the first half, but better now than later I guess."

"All the way from the states?" Julia asked, immediately intrigued. "Well, just consider me your personal guide to the hallowed halls of Hogwarts," she announced with a smile. Granted, though, Ju did get lost a lot, but it wasn't as much as when she was younger...

[Dierks Brooks]

"Personal guide," repeated Dierks. He gave a laugh. "Alright. I suppose it will lesson my chances of gettin' lost in the halls. Maybe I'll remember which way and where I'm going all while hopin' I don't turn a wrong corner." Dierks smiled. "I thank you for your offer Julia. Yer the first person I've met while I've been here and I hope that the majority of the people are just as nice."

[Julia Strobel]

"Just as nice? Yea, most of us," Julia thought for a minute. "Just stay away from the kids in green," she added.

"The kids in green? That would be Slytherin, right?" Dierks heard about each house, but didn't know too much about them. "What is so wrong with them that I should stay away?" It wasn't that Dierks was going to go looking for trouble, he just wanted to know why he should avoid them.

[Julia Strobel]

"Well, not all of them are bad, I really shouldn't say that," Julia replied. "It's just..." How would she describe the way Slytherins were. "Most of them, well, a lot of them anyway, prefer things a certian way. And to them, if its not their way, its wrong, and anything wrong disgusts them." Ju said, proud of her answer. "For instance, most Slytherins are pureblood."

[Dierks Brooks]

"Gotcha," he replied. "So they have their noses higher in the air than anybody else then. I'll make sure ter try and keep away." Dierks didn't understand how anyone could dislike anyone because of their 'blood status'. It shouldn't really matter anyway. They should judge the person by personality, not by blood. The majority of students back in America didn't really look at who people's parents were, except for a handful. Dierks imagined that it would be worse here than there.

"Thanks Julia," Dierks said with a nod of his head. "Is there anythin' else that I should know 'bout?"

[Julia Strobel]

"Yup, pretty much it," Ju said with a smile. "But like I said, not ALL Slytherins are bad, some of them are OK," she added. "Like this one kid, Seth. I don't really know him, but he's dating the Hufflepuff champion Maxi Borale, that's pretty sweet..." she said a bit too quickly. "As for anything else, not that I can think of at the moment."

"As long as there ain't no trouble between me and some other person, it'll be alright," Dierks said grinning. He was too big on what was sweet. After all, he didn't really have any girlfriends back in school. He did have one, but that just turned out to be where they were just friends. "I guess that is pretty sweet," he said agreeing with her.

"So what exactly is goin' on at the school right now?"

"School is..." Julia though about it. "Well, its pretty insane right now. There's the triwizard tournament...which is really I guess a "quadwitch" tourniment, since its one person from each house, and it just happened to be all girls." She said quickly. "Thats mostly the good-slash-exciting things that are going on."
