After his talks with Lina and with his parents, Roland realized that he had no choice but to have a little talk with Cyrus. He wasn't looking forward to it, even though he loved his brother very much. But somehow the two of them were like oil and water; they simply didn't mix. But Lina was miserable, and Mum and Dad weren't about to give in. So it was time to talk with Cyrus.
He sent an owl to his little brother and asked him to meet him that night at the Leaky Cauldron. He felt much more at home in the dark, dingy little pub than in most of the places he'd gone since returning home.
When he arrived, he ordered a firewhiskey, then sat at a table in the corner, sipping at his glass as he waited for Cyrus to show up.

The shadows of tears streaked Cryrus' face as he looked around the empty apartment once more. Lina had left with Mara and Cyrus had been lost since, his performance at training at dropped considerably and he had been dodging Hayden like the black plague. Staring outside his window, he realized it was about time to go meet Roland, he decided to meet his only brother for the fact that if he didn't talk to someone he would explode.
Quickly apparating to the Three Broomsticks, he stepped inside and quickly spotted Roland sitting in the corner, approaching the bar he ordered a firewhiskey and went to join his brother. Attempting to hide the streaks and mask the pain in his voice he took a sip of the firewhiskey before speaking. "Hello Roland..I hope all is well." His tone dead, unable to feel much of anything except loneliness without Lina.

Roland took a sip of his drink and eyed his younger brother for a moment. He looked... well, he looked like hell. Because the pub was dark, he couldn't quite see the tear streaks on Cyrus's face, but he could tell his brother looked pale, and his eyes seemed sunken into his head. The usual mischievous gleam was gone from his eyes. And the flat tone of his voice also didn't go unnoticed. "What, not biting my head off, Cyrus?" he said calmly. "I've come to expect your less than pleasant greetings. What's going on?"

Of course Roland would ask, most others would let it go, let Cyrus be alone with his pain but not Roland. "Lina left..." He let it go with those two words, he had hoped Roland would let it go as well. The woman who cared about most in the world, his better half, had left him and took his beautiful little angel with her. Gritting his teeth Cyrus resigned to letting Roland in on the whole thing, if he was going to talk to anyone about it, best it be Roland.
"We had another fight about..well about me not proposing and well." He paused for another moment trying to hold back the fresh tears that threatened to come forth. "She left to her brothers, and took Mara with her."

Roland was more than a little surprised that Lina had left him. In their talk the other day, she had given every indication of planning to stick it out. Yes, she was desperate and depressed. He could hardly blame her for that. But it seemed like she wanted to stay. Roland's only thought was that Cyrus must have really messed up.
"You let her leave?" he said, shaking his head in disbelief. "For Salazar's sake, Cyrus. I thought you were supposed to be the romantic one. If ever there was a time for a big romantic gesture, that was it. Why didn't you just propose to her? A proposal doesn't mean you have to marry her right away, but you've got to show her that you at least want to marry her eventually."

Cyrus sighed as his brother seemed to be taking Lina's side in this matter. How could Roland of all people not realize that Cyrus couldn't promise something to Lina he didn't know he could deliver. It was true that proposing didn't mean they had to get married right away but at the same time, it meant that they would get married and with the current troubled times, Cyrus knew at anytime he could become the next target of a death eater attack.
"Roland, if I propose to Lina i'll be promising her something, something that.." He paused for a moment, trying to think of the proper words, "Look, we both know the dangers of the profession. How can I propose to Lina, promise her that I will marry her. If I don't even know that I will be alive in a week or a month. ..."

Roland sighed softly. Yes, he knew all too well about the dangers of the job. His hand still twitched sometimes from the paralyzing spell that had hit his wand hand and left him partially defenseless against the killing curse that nearly struck him. For similar reasons, he had avoided relationships. Although, if he was honest with himself, that was just an excuse to hide the real reason he didn't want a relationship. He knew that relationships took work, and that you had to be willing to compromise. He didn't have the time or energy to devote to a relationship, and he was not good at compromising.
"You're starting to sound like me," Roland said, swirling his drink in his glass. "But you know what, Cyrus? That's a lousy excuse. Yes, the job is dangerous. Doesn't mean you should let it stop you from living your life to the fullest. You love the girl, right? You should marry her."

Cyrus couldn't believe his ears, his own brother admitted he was acting like him but at the same time was advising against it. Looking at his brother, he lowered his gaze for a moment and sighed deeply, the thing that made it more frustrating was deep down Cyrus knew Roland was right.
"Of course I love her Roland, Mara and Lina are the most important things to me. I just...mum and dad and all..." He was running out of excuses but the fear of the unknown kept them pumping out anyways.

Roland took a sip from his glass, then set it down on the table. "You know, I've made all the excuses in the world for not getting into relationships. The truth is, I'm a fighter, I'm not a lover. I'm too caught up in my work to deal with a relationship. But I don't want you to be like me. You're not like me, and you never have been. Mum and Dad... things will work out eventually, but it's not going to happen the way things are going right now. You're not talking to them, they're not talking to you, you and Lina still aren't married... nothing is changing. Something has to give. Don't let this be it. You're losing her, Cyrus. You've got to change things. Just go to her and propose. Just take a step."

Cyrus knew that Roland was right. He should just take the next step and ask her to marry him. They would both end up happy. Lina would get what she wanted, and Cyrus would have her back like he wanted. However, he was frightened that now she wouldn't even want to get married. What if he went to her brother's place and just asked her to marry him? She could still be mad at him and tell him no. Cyrus couldn't handle that.
"Yeah, but if I do ask her to marry me, mum and dad probably wouldn't talk to me even then. If I took that step, we would be back where we started and they wouldn't have anything to do with me."

Roland gave his brother an appraising look. What was the hesitation? Why all the excuses? "OK, look," he said. "Just pretend for a second that Mum and Dad weren't a factor, and her parents weren't a factor. Even pretend Mara isn't a factor. Just think about you and Lina. If things weren't so complicated, would you ask her to marry you? Do you want to marry her?"

He sighed and rested his arms lazily on the table. Cyrus thought about what Roland said and he finally nodded. "Yes Roland," he said. "If it wasn't for all of that." He ran his hands through his hair again. Cyrus knew that he messed up and there was really only one way that he could make it right again. "I've even planned on asking her to marry me, but all these things have come up and the question has just been delayed."

Roland sighed and shook his head. "Then you should just do it. Don't let anyone else make your decision for you or prevent you from doing what you want to do. All you have to do is ask her. It doesn't mean you have to run right out and marry her. And I guarantee, if Mum and Dad realize you're serious about wanting to marry Lina, they'll come around. You're losing her, Cy. And you're losing Mara. If you don't act soon... you might not have another chance."

"You're right Roland," he said defeatedly. "But I don't think that she'd want to see me right now. We got into an argument and she left. She went to her brother's. Lina would probably hex me if she saw me right now." Cyrus shook his head. He was using every excuse he could think of. "I know that I'm losing them, but I'm trying to think of a way to ask her. I will ask her, just not at the moment. I'll let her calm down for a bit."

Was his brother really that clueless? Roland knew absolutely nothing about relationships and he knew that it was a bad idea to let Lina "cool off" before going after her. Based on his experiences with his mother, he knew full well that women did not "cool off" when left alone after a fight. They allowed their anger and frustration to simmer until it reached the boiling point. Cyrus was only going to make things worse.
"Cyrus, are you an idiot?" he said. "You leave her alone right now and she's just going to get more angry with you. She'll think you've given up on her."
He sighed with frustration. No wonder Lina was so fed up with him. "Look, it's up to you.. I'm not going to tell you what to do. But I think you're making a mistake. If you want to be with her, you shouldn't even be sitting here talking to me, you should be on your way to her brother's house."

It was the second time Cyrus was called an idiot, but he didn't comment about it. "I haven't given up on her, I never will." He looked down at the table. "I just don't know what I'd say to her Roland. I want her to come back, I really do."
He rested his head in his hand. Cyrus knew that he had already made a mistake. It started with him worrying about if his parents approved or not of Lina. He should have just asked her to marry him already.
"I know that I've messed up," he mumbled sadly. "I've just got to be able to think."

Roland let out a sigh. Giving advice was strange enough for him. But he wasn't the guy you went to for hugs and comfort when you were upset. He could comfort Amandine, but beyond that, he wasn't really at ease in situations like this. And he and Cyrus, in particular had difficulty relating.
"Cyrus... look, Lina loves you. She just needs to know that you're invested in this, that's all. I don't... I don't know what else to tell you. You're the romantic one. Just do it. Or I will."

At the moment, Cyrus couldn't really think. Yes, he was supposed to be the romantic one, but it was hard whenever the woman he loved left him. His thoughts were only excuses as to why he hadn't done what he should had a while back.
Cyrus shook his head. "I know Roland, I know." He frowned. "I just have to think. Right now, that is near impossible."

Roland frowned. He was beginning to think that the split between his parents and Cyrus had taken a serious toll on his brother. Cyrus didn't seem to know what he wanted anymore, and he was plagued with self-doubt. If he hadn't been away for so long, perhaps he could have stepped in sooner.
"Cyrus, just relax. Maybe it's best if you don't go over there right now... you're an emotional wreck. But whatever you do, don't try to over think this situation... you're making it worse. Just act on your feelings, and do what feels right."

This was probably the first time that Roland ever gave him any kind of advice, and it would probably be the only time he would. Cyrus was actually glad that he was sitting here with Roland, because he didn't know who else he could turn to.
"I know," he mumbled. Although relaxing at the moment was also near impossible. "I'll try to get things straightened out and I will talk to her."
