Edmund considered himself an expert at a great many things, not the least of which was women. He knew how to tell them what they wanted to hear, and how to win them over. And although he seemed to be going through a rough patch, he still hadn't lost these abilities completely.
From the moment Danny had started to lose interest in the club, Edmund had an idea brewing in the back of his mind on how to win her back. And the fact that it might also annoy Tristan made it all the better. If it annoyed Tristan, then it might get back to Claire, and his point would be made: He could spend more than one night with a woman, if he wanted to.
Since he knew where Danny worked, he was able to make the arrangements quickly. He started by buying out 3 entire flower shops and having their contents sent to the hospital, directed to a Miss Danny Thomas.

Danny didn't work until the mid shift that day, so she walked into the hopsital having no idea what she was about to walk in on.
She stopped short, looking at the vibrant colors of the flowers that were *everywhere*. There was not a surface open anyway, except a small one for the nurses to work at, and the happy chatter died down when they saw her.
"Who did you fight with last night?" One of the nurses asked her. "They're doing a hell of a job making it up to you."
"These are all mine?"
At the nods she got in return, she looked around again. She had fought with Ross, but she knew this wasn't his doing. Flowers...? Maybe. But not like this.
"Where's the card?"
Someone handed her a small piece of parchment, and she looked it over. There was no name other than her own.

For the second wave of his grand display, Edmund bought out a toy store and had every stuffed animal inside delivered to the hospital. There were enough for every child in the children's wing of St. Mungo's. In the middle was a giant life-sized bear with a card attached. Once again, he left no message, just her name.

"Yeah, this is definitely not Ross," She decided, realizing what was happening, anyway. Edmund had come to mind, but she didn't remember if she told him he worked here or not... had he mentioned Tristan? Either way, it seemed unlikely.
"Do me a favor, guys," she asked the nurses and other mediwizards and witches that weren't busy. "Let's get these toys to the children's ward, and help me give the flowers to our patients."
Merlin knew she wasn't going to keep all these flowers or toys, and they woul certainly help brighten the days of the patients.

Of course, this was exactly what Edmund had expected her to do. He knew her type, and knew that the little bits of cheer he was sending her would not go amiss in the dreary atmosphere of St. Mungo's.
But the last stage of his display would be even harder to ignore. He hired a full choir and string ensemble to come in and play a modified version of the Irish classic "Danny Boy," only altering the words to make it "Danny Girl."

Which made the normally confident and cool Danny blush.
This too was good for her patients. The ones that could see, or that could come walking out, were all getting a kick out of the choir, and their mediwitch blushing.
When they were finished singing, she caught one of them. "I don't suppose you could tell me who sent you?"

But before the singer could answer, the front doors opened and Edmund himself walked in, holding a simple heart-shaped box of chocolates. He had planned his unassuming entrance for immediately after the performance. He was dressed in a full tuxedo, with tails and a top hat.
"Hello, Danielle," he said, smiling. "I hope you liked my gifts."

Danielle was fully aware of the silence that fell over the ward, and then the whispers that broke out behind her. She had to keep herself from rolling her eyes... appearantly the other girls in the hospital approved of him.
She wasn't quite sure how to answer him, but her head tilted and she smiled. "The redhead didn't work out?"

Actually, the redhead had worked out quite well... but that wasn't important. His focus was on Danny now. "She couldn't hold a candle to you, love," he replied. "I so greatly enjoyed our dance, and couldn't quite get you out of my head. So I thought I would make it up to you for whatever it was that made you lose interest. So what do you say, Danny girl? Will you go out with me on a proper date?" He dropped down on one knee, extending the box of chocolates out to her.

Danny blushed again, unsure of how to deal with him. No one had ever really persued her so actively, and it was really very sweet.
"Well, Merlin knows I can't say no to you like this," she told him quietly, meaning that she'd be a cruel person to say no after all of the effort he had gone to. It was her way of saying yes to him. And if all of this was just to get her to say yes to the date, she imagined he would be very good at making any girl he went out with feel like a princess.

"Of course you can't," Edmund said with a smile. "And I'm not really the kind of guy who likes to take no for an answer. So I do my best to give a girl every possible reason to say yes."
He got to his feet and strode up to her, lightly touching her chin with one finger. "So, how about it?"

"I can see that you don't like taking no for an answer," Danny replied, smiling a little.
What else could she say to him anyway? Everything he had done was very sweet, and he was certainly putting effort into getting her to say yes. Still, she wondered how many girls he had given 'every possible reason to say yes.' Well, did it matter?
"Yes, Edmund, I will go on a proper date with you."

Edmund smiled his most charming smile. "Thank you," he said, doing his best to sound humble. "Is tomorrow night good for you? Say, 8:00?" He bowed slightly and awaited her answer.

Where on earth did this guy come from? She realized the rich families tended to be a little more proper in just about everything they did, but seriously? No one acted like this anymore. It was a lost art, in her opinion, and that, if nothing else, endeared him to her. And the fact he had persued her.
She smiled and nodded once. "Tomorrow at 8:00 is perfect."

It was true that Edmund spoke and acted in a way that seemed like something out of a bygone era. Even he knew it. But it wasn't really an act. When, on the rare occasion, he brought a girl to his family's estate, it became clear why he was that way. The estate was massive, with multiple properties and buildings and fields, which he let out to locals for a price. It was a throwback to the old feudal system, which made sense, because his family had a centuries-old knighthood that went back to the time of Queen Elizabeth I.
At the moment, he was seriously pondering the idea of allowing Danny to see that side of him. Even Claire had not seen his estate, although she knew all about it. Sometimes, in the dark of night, Edmund entertained the idea of bringing Claire to the estate, wondering what her reaction would be when she actually saw it.
But for now, Edmund smiled at Danny. "Excellent," he said with a smile. "I'll pick you up at 8. Where do you live? Or should I pick you up here?"

"Uhm..." Danny was still reeling from all of this. It was certainly a lot to take in, and truly, no guy had ever gone to the effort for her before. This was nice and unexpected. She liked it.
"Pick me up here... I get off around 8... so..." She trailed off, thinking that she could grab a quick shower here, and she already had a change of clothes with her. Besides, she wasn't quite ready to have Edmund know where she lived.

Edmund smiled. "That sounds easy enough," he said. He wasn't bothered by the rather obvious attempt to prevent him from knowing where she lived. The cautious ones usually did that, and he honestly expected it.
Bowing his head, he took her hand and pressed it to his lips. "I will be counting the minutes until 8:00 tomorrow," he said, his eyes sparkling. "I will see you then, and I hope you have a good day at work."
And with that, he turned around and headed for the door, only pausing once to wink at her over his shoulder.

Danny stood there, somewhat dumbfounded, though she hid that well until he was gone, and she turned around to start work again, only to find half the hospital watching her.
She smiled a little as they started to tease her.
Yes, it was official, Edmund had put the most effort into asking her on a date, and she could truly only imagine how the date would be... she would feel like royalty, she was sure. And there was nothing wrong with that... every girl deserved to feel that way once in a while. She too, secretely, looked forward to 8:00 tomorrow.
