Sirius had been lying low ever since his breakup with Kris. He went out of his way to avoid her, and Amy as well. He didn't want Kris to think he was rubbing her nose in anything. What was worse was that Remus was now also avoiding him. So he ended up sitting alone in the library, the place where he had first kissed Amy, trying to make himself care about his potions homework.
His mind kept wandering to thoughts of Kris and Amy... realizing that he'd somehow managed to hurt two girls at once. Word had got out (thanks, no doubt, to his little brother) about Amy and Sirius, and now Amy's reputation was mud. All because of him. He was absolute scum. He deserved to be isolated from his friends... but Amy didn't deserve to be an outcast. He wished there was something he could do... but for now the best thing he could come up with was to leave her alone.
He sighed to himself and tried to focus on his potions homework, but soon his mind began to wander again....

Emmeline's brain was slowly, but surely, killing itself. It felt like Troll's were learning to play drums inside her head. She sighed. The common room was getting crowded and, apparently, no one knew what an inside voice was. She stood up slowly, her knees cracking from being bent under her for so long. She grabbed her robe and jacket and made her way to wards the Common Room exit, only saying a few hellos here and there.
Emmeline gave a sigh of relief as she hit the fourth floor. This was her favorite hall, because it held her favorite place. The library. The quietest, most deserted place in the whole castle. She strode in, her head already more clear, and headed to wards her favorite table. It was to wards the back, beside a window over-looking the Black Lake, one of her other favorite spots.
When she arrived, someone was already there. They had their head bent low, so she couldn't tell who it was. But they did have on Gryffindor robes and dark black hair that was slightly tousled. Emmeline smiled a little.
"Hi Sirius. I didn't expect to see you here." Emmeline blushed. That probably came out wrong. "I mean, I've never seen you here before. I thought you would be out pranking or something, not that you're only capable of pranking............" She trailed off and sat down slowly. It would probably be better to shut up now anyway.

Sirius had already drifted off and was thinking about things other than his schoolwork. About girls, and relationships, and how much he had hurt Kris. He hadn't meant to do it, but he'd done pretty much exactly the same thing to Kris that Ted had done to Andromeda. Although Ted's reasons were different, even noble... while Sirius had just been selfish.
There was only one solution. Sirius would have to just give up girls for a while, until he was older.
But no sooner had he made that decision, than he heard a voice over his head. He looked up and saw Emmeline standing there, and he found himself breaking into his typical cocky grin. He hadn't seen her in a while, and he'd forgotten just how pretty she really was.
He gulped. "Hey, Emmeline. Long time, no see. What have you been up to?"

Emmeline couldn't help the blush that crept into her cheeks when he smiled at her. But she figured his trademark grin flustered a lot of girls. Her blush grew deeper. She hadn't seen him in a long time and she didn't remember him always looking so cute.
Emmeline blinked. She hoped she hadn't been staring too long or too hard. She cleared her throat and shifted in her seat.
"Well you know. Same old, same old. School. How about you? How are you?" Emmeline had heard about Kris and Amy. She wondered if anyone had talked to him about it.

Sirius shrugged. "Yeah, same here. The occasional prank... Oh, and one of my best friends isn't talking to me anymore." He sighed sadly as he thought of Remus. He'd been against the relationship between Sirius and Kris from the very beginning, and it turned out he had been right.
"Please, have a seat," he said, nodding to the spot across from him. "I was just working on the potions assignment."

Emmeline felt sympathetic towards Sirius. She sat slowly and watched him. He did look pretty down. Which wasn't the Sirius she has met in Potions Class. She sighed with him. She had no idea what to say to someone on this situation. But one of Emmeline's best attributes was that she was a great listener.
"Well, would you like to tell me about it? Maybe that will help. Hey and maybe I could help with your potions essay." Emmeline gave him her best reassuring smile and hoped he would trust her enough to tell her.

Sirius let out a breath. He knew it wouldn't be long before the whole story got out. Regulus would see to that. Pretty soon everyone would know what he had done. He would be an outcast, and Amy probably would as well. He didn't mind so much for himself, but he did feel guilty about Amy. He was the one who had got her into this mess in the first place.
"I cheated on Kris with Amy," he sighed. "I didn't mean to do it, but it happened. Now Amy's ignoring me, and so are Kris and Remus. James and Peter are kind of stuck in the middle, but they're trying to be supportive of Remus... so I'm stuck here alone. See, the thing is... I was going to break up with Kris before she caught me kissing Amy. Our relationship... it just wasn't working anymore."

Emmeline closed her briefly close her eyes. When she opened them again, Sirius was still there, looking depressed and guilty. She sighed and tried to push the feeling of worry away. She felt such sympathy for him, she almost cried. (One of her worst qualities) She sighed.
"Well, time heals all wounds and you did apologize right?" She smiled reassuringly. Time always made everything okay. Somehow, things always worked out.

Sirius sighed. "Well, I tried to apologize to Kris, but she won't talk to me. And I think I saw her hanging around my rotten little brother, Regulus. I think she's doing it to hurt me, but she's the one who's going to end up getting hurt. My brother is a jerk." Rubbing his head tiredly, he looked up at her. "I guess you're right, though... I just need to give it time. Time for Kris, and time for Remus. Hopefully they'll forgive me when they realize that I never meant for any of this to happen."
He appreciated her sympathy. He hadn't really been getting a lot of that since everything started. Who sympathizes with the cheater? Even his own cousin Alice was mad at him. Andromeda hadn't heard about it yet, as far as he knew... but after what had happened with Ted, he doubted she'd be sympathetic, either. Right now, Emmeline felt like his only friend.
"Anyway, thanks for listening to my problems. I really appreciate it."

Emmeline frowned. "She was hanging around her little brother? He would do that to you?" She shook her head sympathetically.
"I know that this may be a little forward, but I'm always here to listen and talk. Anytime......"

Sirius sighed. "Yeah... my brother would do that. Regulus may be young, but he's a jerk. And he hates me." He paused to rub his head tiredly. He really was exhausted and drained after everything that had happened.
Looking back up at Emmeline, he smiled slightly. "Thanks. It's nice to know someone is on my side."

Emmeline smiled a little and looked at Sirius. "Yes. We do." She looked towards the window and tried to think of something that would keep his mind off this situation. She turned back. "I'm sorry I'm not any better at this. But I've never been where you are now. I don't know..."
Emmeline looked down and picked at the corner of the table. What do you say to someone who's heart is broken and probably broken more than one. Nothing. Time would fix it. It had to.

Sirius shrugged. "No, you're doing fine. I feel a little better, actually. Like I said, sometimes it just helps to know you've got someone in your corner. I know I messed up this time, and I regret it. There's not really anything I can do to fix it... just wait for the hard feelings to pass."
He closed the book in front of him and leaned his elbow on the table, looking at her with interest. "Hey, do you have a date for the Yule Ball?"

Emmeline smiled and gave him a mock bow. "Glad I'm appreciated." She turned and looked at the book in front of her, not really reading the words in front of her. She was usually so outgoing and, not necessarily confident, but more sure of herself. Then again, she usually didn't like the guys she hung out with. When he closed his book, she looked up. She didn't want him to leave.
"Hey, do you have a date for the Yule Ball?" Emmeline stared at him for a minute, her mouth wide open. But she immediately closed it. He didn't exactly ask her.
Emmeline cleared her throat. "No. No I don't"

Sirius smiled at her. He didn't quite realize the meaning of her open-mouthed stare, so he continued, clueless. "I can't go to the ball with Kris or Amy... and... well, not that you're, like, my third choice or anything... I don't want you to think that," he added quickly, belatedly realizing how that must have sounded to her. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt the feelings of one of the few friends he seemed to have left.
"But... well, we're friends, and maybe it would be nice just to go with a friend. If you wanted to, that is. "

Emmeline blushed and smiled. "I'd love to go with you." She laughed a little to herself. She didn't think she would ever get asked by anyone, much less Sirius. "I hope I don't shame you in front of all your friends."
