Lina smiled. "I should be offended that you think we need more protection. I can handle myself, you know. But I do appreciate the sentiment."
She looked back at her daughter, in the arms of her uncle, and shook her head. "Oh, yes you would. If she were a boy, she wouldn't have eyes that immidiately wrap a man around her finger. Just wait to see how you feel about her when she starts dating."

Roland smiled slightly. This was, oddly enough, the most relaxed he'd been in a while. He should have been tense, knowing that he was most likely going to be late for the auror meeting. But something about the tiny child in his arms made him realize just how fragile life could be and that sometimes you had to embrace it. This was almost a foreign concept to him, the mere idea of relaxing and taking life as it came. And he doubted he would even remember having such a thought once he was no longer holding Mara in his arms. She could change a man's perspective.
So why the hell was Cyrus being so stubborn? He should be bending over backwards to make Lina his wife. But still he hesitated.
Glancing back up at Lina, he shook his head. "It's not that I think you're weak. I've known plenty of woemn who were just as capable, if not more capable, than men. My own mother is an example. But it's more a matter of honor. I suppose you'd call it a silly macho thing, but I have a need to be a protector."

Lina nodded. "Which is why I'm not offended. I think it's kind of cute actually. And you should be careful or I'm going to start thinking I fell in love with the wrong Ferrera."
Babies, Lina decided, were powerful little creatures, and they lost that power as they grew older. Most girls kept some of it, and there were a handful of boys that did as well. She often felt like the secrets of the universe were being spilled to her in Mara's babbles, and she just wasn't smart enough to figure out what it all meant yet.
They had walked for a while, Lina with an easy smile the whole time. Cyrus' brother made her feel good again, reminded her that she wasn't doing anything wrong, even if she did feel a little unrefined in his presence.
"Well, Roland, thank you for the escort. You should probably get to the Ministry now, hm?" She said as they came to the apartments. "Of course, you're invited for coffee or something, if I knew you didn't have to go."

Roland smiled softly. "You're better off with Cyrus. He's the romantic."
As they reached the door to her apartment, he sighed. "Yes, unfortunately, I must get going. Another time, perhaps?" He knelt down and gently lowered Mara into her carrier. "Bye, cutie," he said softly. "I'll see what I can do about getting your grandparents to come and meet you."

Lina smiled. "You're perfect with her," she told him, and then kissed his cheek.
"The invitation is always open. Thank you for coming today."

Roland looked a little embarrassed. "Thank you. She really is incredible, and it was a privilege to spend time with her. With both of you." After ensuring that the apartment was safe, he headed toward the door. "I'll see you soon," he promised.
He walked down the hall, then disappeared in the elevator. Once he was back in the lobby, he apparated to the Ministry.

"Thank you again, Roland," Lina said as he walked away. She thought it was really cute how protective he was of the both of them already, and she smiled as she closed the door.
Sighing, she took Mara out of her carrier. "Hungry princess?" She asked, already getting some food and having hope that things might get better with Roland's help.
