It was freezing to the point of almost snow outside. Everyone was in their common rooms, trying to entertain themselves while being trapped inside. The Hufflepuff common room was packed and Katarina was feeling claustrophobic due to all the students inside, so she quickly picked up her things in order to escape.
A few minutes later, Kat found herself in the Library, where she was surprised there weren't many people. She settled with a random book off a shelf and sat in the corner in one of the more comfortable area's set up to read, wondering if she knew anyone here who decided to escape to the library as well.

Gilderoy was not a fan of the library. Not only were there no mirrors in sight, but he knew for a fact (from checking his personal pocket mirror) that he looked washed-out in the library's harsh lighting. Furthermore, the smell of musty old books made him sneeze, which turned his nose an unbecoming shade of pink.
Still, he did have some work to do, and there was no better place to do it than the library. So he gathered up his books and headed down to the library to work on his homework. The sooner he got it done, he rationalized, the sooner he could get back to writing his memoirs. He was thoroughly convinced, after all, that he was destined for greatness and then everyone would want to know about his fascinating childhood. He had been working on his memoirs since the age of 8 years.
Choosing a table that was in a fairly dark corner, away from the harsh glare of the lights, Gilderoy set down his books and sat down.

Kat walked past a row of tables, Kat saw Gilderoy Lockhart sitting in the darkest most corner. She had half a mind to just keep walking, knowing that if she were to start a convorsation with her housemate, it would end up revolving around him, but there was no one else she actually knew in the library and it was too busy everywhere else, so she walked over to him.
"Hello Gilderoy," Kat said with a kind smile. "Mind if i sit with you?" she asked, gesturing to the chair across from the boy.

Gilderoy flashed his million galleon smile at her. "Not at all, my dear fellow Hufflepuff!" he said pompously. "Why, I would be pleased to share my seat with you. Poor thing, your coloring is just like mine... the harsh library lights must be rough on your complexion. But never fear, the two of us sitting in this lonely corner will brighten up the shadows!"

Kat smiled, of course Gilderoy would sit in the place the light complimented him best. "Thanks," she said, taking the seat he offered. "What are you studying?" she asked, pointing at his book.

Gilderoy beamed again. "Defense against the Dark Arts, my dear. It's a most important class, wouldn't you agree? It's my favorite above all others. I hope one day to be a great hero, defending the innocents from the evils of the dark arts. Well, that and marketing my own line of hair care products, and of course, writing bestselling books about my exciting adventures. How about you? What brings you to the library on this cold winter day?"

"Oh, I'm actually not studying," Kat said. "I just needed to get out of the common room, and it was too cold to go outside." She held up the book she snatched off the shelf. "So random reading was my only option."
She listened to Gilderoy talk about Defence against the dark arts class and was entertained by how enthustiac he was about the class. "Good for you. I'm not bad in that class, but i perfer transfiguration." She said.
