Lina sighed, quiet for a moment. "You know I hate that you don't get along with them as well anymore because of me and Mara." She hated that she didn't get along with them either, but like she had told Roland, that was their choice. If they wanted to refuse to acknowledge thei grandchild and their daughter, the was fine by her. But Jensen shouldn't be forced to be a prt of it.
"Anyway, I'm hoping that Cyrus' parents will invite him over for Christmas dinner, and hopefully take Mara with him. I sincerely doubt that I'll be invited, so you're more than welcome at my apartment, if you want."

"Well Lina, it's not fair for them to really like just one of us," said Jensen. "But I still send them an owl from time to time. I don't understand why on earth they don't really like you anymore. It just doesn't make any sense. The same thing with Cyrus' parents." He gave a shake of his head. "Although, I feel sure that Cyrus won't go to see his parents without you. I do hope that they invite all three of you to go over there for Christmas. That way, maybe they would start to accept you."
Jensen didn't understand the families. They seemed to be too stuck on themselves to see what was really happening between their children.

Lina shrugged again. "Whatever they decide to do, it's fine. I have too much to think about anymore to worry about them. If Dad wants to pretend I don't exist anymore, well Mara and I can do the same, right? Honestly, Jen, I'm just so tired of being the only adult in the situation. My parents, his... even Cyrus sometimes. I just wish they would all grow up and deal with things. I got pregnant? So what? What if all I want to be is a good mother and a good wi... girlfriend?"

He caught that Lina almost said wife. Jensen knew how badly she wanted to marry Cyrus, but never did ask her to because he was waiting on his parents. Frankily, he thought that it would take forever for his parents to be accepting of Lina. "You are the best there is," said Jensen. "I don't understand why they don't want to grow up, but if you need me to do anything, then I'll you have to do is ask. If you want to come over and stay so Cyrus can have some time alone, I have that extra bedroom and I'm getting that crib today."

"I appreciate that," Lina told him, bored with looking at the books now. She wasn't so much in the mood anymore for reading titles. "But I could never take Mara away from him, even for a couple of days. I mean to visit, sure, but not because of a fight or anything."
Sometimes, she was convinced that Mara was the only thing holding them together right now.
"Come on, let's pay for my Christmas present and go look at baby stuff."

Jensen nodded. "I know. Just remember whenever you want to come over, I have room." He led Lina to the front desk and paid for the book and held on to the bag as he held the door open for her. "Does Mara have any colors that she seems to like more than others," Jensen asked as they walked to the baby store.
Upon entering, Jensen smiled. Maybe one day he would come here for his own child, but for right now, it was his niece that he was trying to spoil.

"Greens and purples, oddly enough," Lina replied. Right up front in the store was their display of cribs. She lead Jensen to a dark wooden one. It was circular and elegant. "This is the one we got her for her nursery. "Pretty, isn't it? I can't tell if I'm trying to make her a tomboy or extra girly," she laughed.
She hoped, if Jensen was ever here for his own child, that he would let her be a part of it in some way.

"Greens and purples? Well, that's cool cause green is my favorite color." Jensen grinned. "Maybe she'll be somewhere in between. Tomboyish, yet girly at the same time." He looked at the crib in front of them. "I might get this one then since she'll be familiar with it and set it up in the extra bedroom. Of course, we have to get her a few blankets and all the baby stuff she would need."
Jensen looked around. "And of course, we have to get her the toys that make all kinds of noises."

Lina smiled. "I know. Purple was my favorite color when I was a little girl, so Mara's doing a pretty good job of emulating us."
She fingered the crib, smiling as she thought about Mara laying in it at her brother's. Sometimes, she envisioned so many happy family moments that quite honestly, she wasn't sure would ever come now. Every day, she was having more and more doubts about her and Cyrus.
"We're just going to keep all of the noisey toys at your place."

He looked to Lina and frowned. "What no noisey stuff at your house? She has to have something. I promise that I won't make it too annoying. Maybe it will play music if she presses it." Jensen smiled and then let her over to the toys. He picked up a few that made noise, and a few that didn't. "Now, I'll just get purple and green blankets, and a few little green outfits for Christmas. I think she might enjoy that."

"She loves music," Lina said. "She used to dance around when I was pregnant with her whenever we had music going. Doesn't that mean the baby will be a genius or something?" She asked with a laugh. "You're really good to her, you. To both of us."
She simply followed Jensen around, letting him pick up whatever he wanted. Noises were good. They would stimulate Mara.

Jensen laughed. "I think it means something like that. Maybe you'll have a little dancer on your hands." He smiled as they walked over to the blankets and such. "Of course I have to be good to you two. I am your brother after all, and Mara's uncle. What kind of person would I be if I wasn't?" Jensen grinned. After the blankets, he walked over to the clothes. "If you don't mind, I'm going to have to get you to carry the clothes because my arms are over loaded."

"I can carry whatever you'd like," Lina told him, reaching over and taking the blankets from his arms. "Really, Jensen... thank you,"she said softly. Her brother was the only one who didn't ask questions, or make assumptions, or tell her she was doing something wrong. He just took her as she was and loved her anyway.
"This way your hands are free to look at little outfits and things."

"Don't thank me Lina. It's just something I do naturally." He smiled again and looked to the outfits. "I think I should get her one of these little green dresses. She'll have all the boys coming after her already, don't you think?" Jensen laughed and picked it up. "Besides, we have to have her act like a girl from time to time and not beat all the little boys up."
He picked a small purple jacket, and then a few different color outfits. Satisfied, he looked to Lina and led her to the register. The woman just looked at him and he smiled at her. "Now, Mara can stay over and you don't have to worry about if she has enough blankets or things to keep her amused."

Lina laughed. "You know my little girl is going to be able to kick arse when she needs to." She ha no intentions of raising Mara to be a meek little thing. The girl was going to have a mind of her own, and she was going to use it.
She followed Jensen to the register and laid the blankets and toys on the counter as the woman began to ring things up. "I'll make sure she knows you gave her all the toys. And that Cyrus knows who to blame for all the new noise."

He laughed. "I can see Mara now beating up on some boy for trying to kiss her on her cheek." Jensen shook his head. "That would be a sight, let me tell you. I know that she will take after her mother, so I think I would feel kinda sorry for the poor boy."
Jensen paid for the items he had and the woman started to bag them up. "Well thanks Sis," he said grinning. "However, at least I know that she'll be having fun with them with all the noise."

"And she's going to have you wrapped around her little finger, much like I did when we were younger." Like she still did, and she knew it, but she wouldn't point that out to him right now. He was always a sweetheart, and he knew she would do anything for him.
"Thank you for all of this. I want her first Christmas to be beautiful and... well. You know. Cyrus and I are going to decorate everything for her."

"Well, I think that Mara is already taking after her mother," Jensen said with a laugh. He was already wrapped around Mara's little finger, like he was with Lina. He didn't have a problem with it however. After all, they were the two most important girls in his life at the moment.
"Her first Christmas is going to be beautiful Lina. She's going to have a ball."

"I hope she is taking after me. But I hope she fights like her daddy." The word 'daddy' had slipped out, the habit of a woman who was used to speaking to her baby. "Actually, I hope she got the best of both of us, and we managed to leave all the worst of ourselves out of her. She's the best thing I've done in my life so far, Jensen."
She smiled fondly as she said this, then took the bags from the woman. "All right, where to now?"

He smiled as the word slipped out of Lina's mouth. "Don't worry, I'm sure she is going to have the best of you two." Jensen had a feeling that Mara was going to be just like both of her parents. She had already showed signs of it.
Jensen reached over and took the bags from Lina. "I'll take those." He made sure that he had all of the bags and smiled. "I think that is all I have to get. Is there anywhere you would like to stop at or anything?"
