"Good," Sheryl replied, looking ever so pleased that he had said yes. "Because I already had the house elves start the water. I'll be right back. Or better yet, come on." She took his hand. "You need to get out of this office for a bit. Come with me and we'll have tea in the gardens."

"Ever at the whims of a beautiful woman." he mock groaned as he stood when she took his hands. He would let her lead him anywhere, and he'd willingly walk to hell and back to make her happy. He would do anything of course, and a promise like that from a man like Edward Montgomery was definitely a plus.
Still he loved her, and she loved him, the right way. She wasn't like Marrion who knew his love, weakened him with it, exploited it at every turn and destroyed his heart. No, where Marrion had corrupted his new wife cleansed, healed.

"The most beautiful woman," Sheryl replied, teasingly correcting him. "You missed that part. But it's okay, I forgive you."
She lead him to the kitchens first, so that the house elves wouldn't have to go looking for them, and then out to the gardens.

He laughed, baring his teeth in a good-natured grin, he was a refined man, but elegance aside he was a fine male specimen brains and brawn he was a large man, broad shouldered but lean waisted and perfectly capable of filling a suit or tux quite nicely, but at the whims of this one woman "the most beautiful women" he was reduced to this man of leisure, of contentment, and he loved it.
"How could I do such a thing...?" he asked shaking his head.

"Heaven only knows," she replied, still teasing him. "After as long as we've been married, you really should know better."
They were in the garden by now, and Sheryl set the tea on the table that was surrounded by four white chairs, and waited for Edward to sit.

He came up behind her instead scooping her into his arms and sitting with her in one of the chairs, " Have we been married long?" he asked, " It seems like yesterday was the first day I met you...and yet I've loved you my whole life."

"I don't know," Sheryl replied, nestling into him. Sometimes they felt like such a young couple in love that she could forget they were parents and adults.
"I look at you, and you make me forget the time, how long or short it's been. And then it doesn't matter to me. How do you do that, Edward?" She asked, an shifted so that she was still with him, but with her back pressed to his chest and her head leaned back on his shoulder. "I can't wait to see the kids."

"You're a beautiful, woman Sheryl, believe me I don't know how the time passes so quickly, but with you, I've never felt so young...so free in all my life...I imagine you'll keep me this way for the rest of my life, and I intend my dear to keep you happy for the rest of yours."

"You will," Sheryl told her husband. "I already know you will. We're good together, you know?" She asked, still leaning against his chest. They made a good pair, loving and kind, but fierce and frightful when they needed to be. They were one of those pairs that you couldn;t break up, that you didn't want to go against. "Our kids are very lucky."

He smiled but his eyes were tinted with sadness and he sighed simply holding his wife, " They are now." he said, and that was all he could say. "Caleb's always been lucky to have you." he told her, he couldn't say the same about Samantha having him.

"Stop it, Edward," Sheryl told him, knowing what was on his mind. "Sam has always been lucky to have you. You just haven't been able to show her until now. She understands."
Everyone understood. "We'll make her first Christmas here perfect. I promise."

No one understood. Edward never told anyone, not even James, the few things he had heard that Marrion had done to Samantha. His shame was far too great, and his inability to protect his daughter was something that would weigh on his conscience until he died.
He would have spoiled her rotten, she never would have wanted for anything let alone basic necessities such as food, shelter, love...
But Sheryl was right on one account he had Sam now, and he had Sheryl, and a new son Caleb, he had so many blessings it was beyond time to put the past behind them all.
He smiled and kissed her for her words of kindness.
