"Do you think?" she asked smiling and taking a step back from him to let him see her. She had indeed changed from the scrawny girl to more of a womanly figure. Strange what happened between the years of fifteen and sixteen. Where her looks might have been boyish they were now more impish and soft. She was a young woman, but she still had so much more growing up to do.
She grinned up at him , "And you look just the same. Just as beautiful and as charming as all the Montgomery men, although you've gotten broader." she said indicating his shoulders.

"Yeah, I think," Anthony told her. "You've become quite a young lady." He hated it, but during the evening this far, she had made him feel like he had to talk to her as an uncle, rather than the friend he liked being instead. James, Edward, and Christopher were so much better at the being an adult and good influence thing than he was.
"I've gotten broader," he repeated. "Of all the compliments I expected to hear, I admit that one catches me off guard."

"Well there's your problem right there." she said nonchalantly, " You expected compliments after chastising me with sarcasm?" she asked sincerely giving him a look, which melted into a smile, " Of course, you're just as handsome as ever... And Broader is good...you look older...more manly." she said hoping that would make him smile, she did so like to see him smile.

Anthony laughed. "There you go, now that's more like it."
He spun her slowly on the dance floor before bringing her back to him. "And for all that chastising, you should be glad I haven't yelled at you for being here underage, you know. But it's hard to be that way when I used to sneak into Spellbound all the time."

Christine laughed, "I was just about to point out how hypocritical that might have been." she smiled, " Besides, I ended up with a chaperon anyway." she rolled her eyes. " Not that there's really anything of interest here. Music's nice, dancing's fine." she sighed, she wasn't interested in the men in the room, no one there could be even a spark of a challenge, hell she could probably read the thoughts of most of the men in the room. Of course she wasn't there to pick up guys and if she was trying to pick up a guy, which she never really had, she wouldn't go to a club.

"I'm hurt," Anthony replied. "I thought you thought more highly of me than chaperone. Merlin knows my brother's treat me like one of their kids, anyway."
Since Anthony was the youngest, he liked being friends with his neices and his nephew more than being an uncle. They had three other brothers to look up to... why should he put himself in that role as well?

Christine laughed, " You know I think the highest of you, but when you've got a father three uncles a brother and a cousin it doesn't matter how highly I think of you, or how I *adore* spending time with you, the Montgomery men protect their women, and their women do not need protecting." she said firmly but with a smile, it was true of Sheryl and Lillian, hell probably even Samantha who had been protecting herself for so long, but for Christine who had seen it all and done it all and yet had never really been on her own would be overconfident and impossible to reason with.

"Yes, I know," Anthony said, smiling at her. "But we Montgomery men like to feel needed, and we have to pretend somehow, or we would all fade away into uselessness. Or at the very least, your father would. James is a sucker for women."
He assumed his brother was a sore subject for her right now, but honestly, the guy had a heart of gold and she really should cut him some slack.

Christine laughed, " My *father's* a sucker for women?" she asked him incredulously and kept laughing, Montgomery men were all suckers for women Anthony not withstanding this "weakness" of course *she* would feel that way considering all her uncles indulged her to the utmost capacity.

Anthony rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah, be quiet. It's thanks to your father that I'm a sucker for women too."
There was a moment of something in his eyes... something sad and sacrificed and secret, but then it was gone and he was spinning her on the floor again. "You're too grown up and smart and pretty for your own good. I don't know how James does it."

Christine caught the look and the question was on the tip of her tongue but he quickly changed the subject and she assumed that he didn't want to talk about it so she didn't and instead said sweet things that a niece should say to her uncle, "He has help from his brothers." she smiled and tightened her arms around him, " I don't know what I'd do without all of you."

"Aw," Anthony said. "You're such a perfect little niece. Who tought you how to act so innocent?" He laughed. "Wait, don't answer that. I'm afraid that would be me and Christopher, and it's just better if I can deny it when your father asks me the same question. When did you get back in town? I heard Chris has left again already."

She gave him a look as if to say she'd comply with his desire not to know who was responsible but the innocent look was almost laughable.
As they breezed over that subject she nodded at his second question, " I haven't been home very long, and Uncle Chris left shortly after dropping me off." she half sneered at that then sighed, " and I ran out of the house when they told me they had school in mind."
