She shrugged off the supposed compliment, it could have been an insult, or just an odd statement that he found her weird. She nodded however when he talked about a teacher or student her interest was captured, then a Death Eater as well. She had to wonder why.
"Nothing...just...death?...poor girl." she said shaking her head. She gripped her wand tightly her knife as well as a precaution.

"Maybe it was something. No one really knows. Or if they do, they're not telling anyone. Anyway, they're being very strict about the forest being off limits."
He glanced at her while they walked and smiled, though he kept his thoughts to himself mostly.
"And that makes you want to go more, doesn't it?"

"The fact that it's off limits? Or that there's a mystery to be solved here and either no one's solving it or they're keeping it hush hush." she sighed transparently. The answer to his question was yes, and it was because of both of those reasons. A girl was dead, and either no one here at the school had any investigative genes, which she doubted since she had heard of Rita Skeeter and to watch out for any scoops in that direction, or they weren't investigating such serious matters as deeply as they should be. Certainly Rita or someone would be able to pilfer knowledge from a teacher or staff member and there didn't seem to be much rumors circulating that she had heard, anything that sounded like fact anyway.
She gave him a weak smile then a shrug. Perhaps she was taking this too seriously, but she had lived in places where death was a common occurrence, not only was it common, but most of the time the investigators never cared enough to do their job perhaps it added a bitter taste in her mouth where authority was concerned, as if she needed another reason to be discontent with authority.

"A student was murdered... I'm pretty sure they're doing everything they can to find out who it was. And you're pretty and all, and I'm sure you're smart, but really, don't expect to find something they haven't, or something that will solve the case."
He rolled his eyes inwardly. Great, this was going to be a little less fun than he had hoped for.

She smiled charismatically, " Thank you." she said in turn, " For the compliment I mean." she nodded, " I don't know what I'll find, probably nothing you're right. I would just assume that somebody has to know something about what's going on...and if the Authorities knew something, then surely someone as scoop savvy as Rita Skeeter could wheedle information out of her, and being a gossip columnist well people would know something. And if a girl was murdered...why hasn't the school been shut down? We as students have either the right to know more about what's going on or if the authority figures feel that somehow details will harm our delicate sensibilities then they should send us home all together. How long ago did this happen? How did this happen? Was it related to something else? Was it a personal attack? I wonder if it has anything to do with other attacks or something larger, is the school at risk?" she stopped then with her face screwed up when she realized what she was doing, she paused to look at him, "I'm sorry, I talk a lot, I don't mean to bore you, or squander what's left of your day, if you could just point me in the right direction I'll get out of your hair."

"You're making my head spin," Reese replied, shaking his head. "That was certainly a lot of questions. It happened about a week ago, we've been assured that the school is safe, they think it might have been an attack but are keeping very quiet on that. Does that about answer things?"
He shook his head at the last part. "Ha... no. No way I'm sending you into the forest by yourself."

When she took the time to pause, and...breathe, she released her wound expression and relaxed into a lazy smile, "Chivalry." she announced, " Looks quite good on you." she nodded towards him them and with a determination that she wouldn't get too far ahead of herself like usual as they headed towards the forest.

Charlotte was midspeech with one of her "lackies" did girls have lackies? Minion then. Whoever the girl was, she seemed to hang off of Charlotte's every word, and right now those words were laced with venom towards everyone and everything, but nothing so much as Samantha whom she was fixated on at the moment. Of course a few moments ago she had been badmouthing Lani and planning some sort of devious revenge on the girl. Charlotte could barely recall what the offense was but regardless there would be some sort of payment in return.
It was to Charlotte's misfortune that her topic turned back to Samantha as Christine and Reese were passing by.
Since Charlotte could care less about who heard her, and she didn't know anyone else was around, her voice carried spiteful words on the wind and straight to Christine's hearing.

Christine was still smiling at Reese. They were just passing a few students and for a moment she speculated as to where those students had been, again she was wondering how much further it would have been to get to the forest and she figured the less students they passed the closer they would have been.
She just happened to pick up a few words, and a very well known name as the other students were passing. She didn't know who the blond was, but she knew that the girl was talking about Sam, her Sam, well her Cousin Sam, a Montgomery, and that was enough to set her off. She had no clue that while taking a breath to unload a mouthful of indignation, she was about to do it to the resident psycho.

Reese laughed. "Well thank you for the compliment."
He paid no attention to Charlotte as they walked by, not even realizing the other girl was there, but suddenly, Christine wasn't smiles and cockiness anymore. Reese picked up on the change insantly.
"What? What's wrong?"

Christine was three seconds from blasting Charlotte but was caught off by Reese, her attention was still on the girl but he brought a bit of levelheadedness back to her as she sputtered a bit indignantly.
"Who was that?" she asked still peering over her shoulder but walking along, slowly she came to a halt, she wanted to know who would dare call her cousin such tasteless names.

Reese glanced at the blonde Slytherin. "Her? Some Slytherin. Charlotte Monroe. Why? She's really not worth knowing."
And crazy to boot, but he wondered what Christine's sudden fascination with her was.

Christine's nose went up in the air although her lip was curling a bit, " She insulted someone I care about." Christine said still staring off at where she left. The wheels in her mind were turning and she wondered what kind of enemies her cousin could have made so quickly upon starting a new school. It didn't matter though, Christine wouldn't let anything happen to a Montgomery.
