The weather was slightly chilly, however it wasn't too cold. Kristen would be able to stand it outside for a little bit. The castle was starting to become a little stuffy because so many people remained on the inside.
She made sure that she was bundled up just right. That meant, her jacket buttoned, her gloves on, and her scarf around her neck. She was warm, and that was all that mattered.
The lake area was pretty quiet considering the weather was becoming cooler, however it was Kristen's favorite part of the year.

Reese was coming back from the Quidditch Pitch, and it was bloody freezing to him. Of course, he had worked up quite the sweat from flying for the last two hours or so, and he was similarly bundled with his cloak and a Gryffindor scarf around his neck.
He wouldn't have paid much attention to the person by the lake, except that he recognized her. Things had been to quiet anyway, hadn't they?
He smiled a little predatorily, and changed his course to her.
"Finally kicked you out of the castle, did they?"

Her hands were in her pockets for added warmth. The Black Lake looked anything but inviting. Kristen was brought out of her thoughts when someone started to talk to her. She turned to face them. Reese.
He was good looking, but he could be so stubborn and often he and Kristen would butt heads because of it. She looked at him curiously. "You wish that they kicked me out of the castle," she countered. Kristen looked his face over once and noticed that he looked a bit red faced of course, that usually meant he was practicing flying. He was rather good in sports where as Kristen was horrible. She liked to watch rather than participate.

"Yes," Reese replied dryly. "Alas, my dreams continue to shatter."
Standing there, looking at her, he shoved his own hands in his pockets. He didn't have gloves on, like she did, though he did have his dragonhide quidditch gloves in his pocket. Those weren't really meant for warmth, however, and he didn't want to look like a fool wearing them around the school until he got back to his dorms.

"Sorry to shatter your dreams Reese," Kristen replied with mock sadness. She rolled her eyes. This was how almost all their conversations started, so it was nothing new. She turned to face him. Everywhere she went, he seemed to be not too far behind. In a way, she couldn't really complain, but sometimes it would be slightly annoying.
"One of these days I will attempt to make your dream come true," she said with a slight bow. "But until then, you'll just have to deal with me still being here."

Reese smiled. "One can only hope," he murmured before he twisted his body- lazy way of gesturing towards the castle while he kept his hands in his pockets. "It's pretty cold out... you'll give yourself a cold staying out here."
It wasn't exactly an invite to join him in a walk back to the castle, but it was probably about a close as she was going to get from him.

At his statement, Kristen arched one of her eyebrows. "And why are you worrying about if I catch a cold or not? Scared you're going to miss me if I get sick?" Of course she was teasing him in her usual sarcastic manner. She looked to the castle as a cold breeze blew by. Kristen buried her hands deeper in her pockets in response to the breeze. She didn't mind being outside when it would get cold. It was her favorite time of year after all.

Reese shrugged. "No. But I'm sure that *someone* would miss you."
He stood tall against the wind as it rustled the material of his cloak. It was too cold for him, to be honest, but Merlin knew he wasn't going to let a girl appear stronger than him. Or a Hufflepuff. Especially Kristen.
"Well, if you're intent to stay out here and freeze..."

An amused look crossed her face. "I'm not really sure about that," she said with an almost smirk.
Kristen looked at Reese, he looked like he was about to freeze. Plus, he sort of giving her someone to walk back up to the school with. She thought about it for a moment. A fire sounded nice, or maybe something hot to drink. That would be nice too.
"Oh, alright. I'll walk back up to the castle mum," Kristen said teasing him yet again.

Reese smiled a little, one corner of his lips higher than the other in a half amused smirk.
Silently, he held his hand out to her to help her up. He may have been mercilessly teasing and sarcastic towards her, but never let it be said that he was ungentlemanly or even mean-spirited.

Kristen reached up and took his hand as she pulled herself to her feet. Even though they did give each other a hard time, Reese was always a gentleman. "Thank you." She gave a gentle smile before pulling her hand out of his once she was on her feet.
Putting her hands back in her pockets, she started to walk toward the castle with him. "So, you were practicing flying," she asked trying to start a conversation.

"Welcome," Reese murmured, a response out of habit.
At her observation, however, he turned and looked at her, a cocky smirk on his face. "Stalking me, now?" He asked, indirectly telling her that yes, he had been out flying. He had worked himself a little harder today than he usually did, but it was mostly in an effort to keep warm with the wind blowing against him the entire time he was out.

Kristen laughed. "Oh you wish I was stalking you," she replied. "Your face was really red when you came up, and I figured that you're not really the running type so that only left flying as an option. Plus, you look a little sweaty."
She gave a shrug. Kristen didn't really fly all that well. It wasn't that she didn't really know how to do it, she just never really ever did it. Sure, she did take the basic flying class at one point, but since then she hadn't really touched a broom.

"Most girls like it when I get a little sweaty. But not you. You just chalk it off to flying." He shook his head, pretending to be disappointed.
"You could just come watch next time. You don't have to be secrative about it," he teased. Reese wasn't really all that vain or arrogant. He was pretty laid back... but Kristen just had a way of getting under his skin that begged her to be teased mercilessly.

"Well, I'm not most girls am I," she questioned. "Plus, I don't see how they think that becoming sweaty is attractive. Of course, you just showing up sweaty could leave the mind to wonder. However, if you were outside when it's freezing and you came up on my right side, so you had to be at the quidditch pitch." Kristen gave him a grin.
"Watch you fly, and me be secretive about it?" She shook her head. "You know, sometimes I think you have things backwards. I personally think that you were stalking me. After all, it seems that whenever I go, you show up not far behind me."

"Your reasoning skills are mind blowing. Why weren't you sorted into Ravenclaw?"
Not that he would see her any more or less if she were in Ravenclaw. In fact, he wasn't even sure how they began their sarcastic friendship, if you could call it that. It was one of those things were a conversation was started one day, innocently, and things kept rolling. It didn't much matter, anyway.

She couldn't help but to roll her eyes. "Because the hat didn't put me there. Hufflepuff is fine with me. I like being there." Kristen gave a shrug of her shoulders.
"So was that back there a regular thing? You go out to fly, notice someone standing out there in the cold. That makes you decide to do your good deed for the day, and save them from freezing?"

Reese laughed when she said Hufflepuff was fine with her, and nodded. "Yeah all right. At least you can say you're loyal and hard working."
He nodded at her assessment, but it was dry humor. "Yes, and now that my good deed for the day is complete, I can go back to being an arse for the rest of the day. Thank goodness you were out there, or I might have had to help a Slytherin or something."

"Ah, not that you aren't an arse all day anyway." Kristen gave him a teasing glance, but then put a hand over her heart with an amused look in her eyes. "But I do have to say Mr. Denton that I am touched that you possibly value saving me from the cold rather than a Slytherin."
She let out a laugh. Her and Reese's relationship was hard to describe sometimes. One minute it was like they strongly disliked each other, then the next minute they were on pretty decent terms.

"Oh, I concede that I am," he told her, a light playfulness in his tone. "Which, as you pointed out, is why I have to do my occasional good deed."
When they reached the castle, he opened the door for her, and they were met with a wave of warmth. He enjoyed it, but wasn't so sure Kristen would. She looked rather comfortable in the cold. Which fit her, the times she decided to be cold, at least towards him.
They did have a rather odd relationship, but Reese never really took the time to consider it. It varied with either one of their moods, and that was that.
