Oliver had been feeling a little more than useless lately. His cash flow wasn't an issue, but his days were spent too often on the couch or in a bar. For the first few years after his forced retirement from Professional Quidditch he thought he had the good life. The guys liked him, the girls wanted him. He thought he had it all. But after a while the good life didn't seem so appealing. He hadn't finished school, had no diploma and no marketable skills other than Quidditch. So the only place he could think would even consider hiring him would be the Ministry of Magic; Department of Magical Games and Sports. He sent the Minister an OWL directly.
His letter detailed the events of his career, including his forced retirement due to a head injury. He also wrote about his desire to return to the working world and his passion for sports of all kinds. He was not aware of any openings in the Department but hoped that the Minister would be kind enough to place him somewhere, seeing as how he was a major name in the sports world, even four years after his retirement.
The letter was delivered by an average tawny owl from the public owlery.

Vincent received the letter from Oliver and read it with great interest. The main appeal at the moment was the fact that it wasn't a hate letter, since he had been receiving so many of those after the various incidents seemed to conspire to make the ministry seem ineffective at best.
But there also was a vacancy in the department for Magical Games and Sports, and who better to fill such a position than a well-known former Quidditch player? He sent a reply to Oliver, which invited him in for an interview, then sent it immediately on the tawny owl.

Oliver was pleased with the timely response from the Minister and quickly found a nicer set of robes to wear for the interview. Oliver was self indulgent enough to think the 1200 galleon robes he was already wearing were simply too casual for a job interview.
He arrived through the floo and was shown up to the Minister's office by a cute brunette woman, who seemed flustered by his presence. Oliver enjoyed this. He purred a thank you to the woman and kissed her wrist lightly before she left. Then he turned and knocked firmly on the door, awaiting his future.

Vincent was in the middle of looking over some reports from the department heads. Angelique had apparently called many of the aurors who were scattered about on assignments to come back into town, which he thought was a wise idea. They needed as many aurors as possible on the job and ready to defend the school, if necessary.
When he heard the knock on the door, he couldn't help but feel a little apprehension. These days, whenever there was a knock on the door, it was usually bad news. Sighing to himself, he called out, "Come in!"

Through the door Oliver couldn't hear the exasperation in the Minister's voice as he summoned him into the room. So he confidently pushed open the door and stepped inside. "Minister Corrigan, so nice to finally meet you. I'm Oliver Porter," though I'm sure you already knew that he thought confidently to himself. Oliver offered his hand to the Minister who was sitting on the other side of a very large and pretentious desk. Oliver liked this desk, which meant that surely he would like this man.

Vincent smiled. Oliver clearly thought highly of himself, but his brash attitude and positive nature was, quite frankly, just what he needed after all the angry letters and howlers he'd been receiving as of late. Oliver was well known; Vincent had been a fan of the man back in his quidditch days. And he was still very popular, from what he understood. Perhaps hiring Oliver could raise some of the morale, both around the office and outside of it.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Porter," Vincent said, reaching out to take his hand. "I was a really big fan of yours back when you were playing. That game against Puddlemere United was a thing of brilliance."
