Remember When?

Eve lowered her lashes as a blush surfaced on her cheeks. She absolutely loved the things he was telling her and was close to asking for more. Instead she turned her head from him to look at the initials they carved once.

"For as long as it lasts, and much much longer." she told him slyly before turning her head back to look at him again.

Josh turned his head as well to look at the initials they had carved when they were little. Even then he had decided that Eve was the only girl he wanted to be with. He turned his head to look down at her while she still stared at the heart in the tree.

He couldn't stop himself and he leaned in closer to her, meaning to kiss her cheek. Although, this time, his lips didn't land on her cheek. Eve had turned her head as he leaned in closer to her. His lips ended up on hers. Naturally, he wouldn't have done it, but it was an accident and Josh didn't pull away.

Neither did Eve for that matter. No she didn't dare move a muscle. She knew what had happened, she faintly recalled something similar happening when she was sick when she turned into a semi-kiss, but this one was fully on her lips which were relaxed soft and pliant beneath his.

She also wasn't breathing, but who needed oxygen? Josh was kissing her. Josh was kissing her! Her heart started pounding wildly and she didn't know what to do but this semi kiss just seemed to last sending her fifty directions at once.

He wasn't pulling back...neither was she.

What did that mean? Did that mean he wanted to kiss her? They were going on for a while this semi kiss that was never supposed to happen and finally tortuously Eve needed air to live...she stretched it a bit because to be honest if she died that moment she really wouldn't have cared.

Pulling back she released her breath and took one in, but her eyes were wide and searching his.

Eve didn't pull away, and frankly that made Josh happier than he had ever been. He told Lance that he would wait and kiss her, but this was actually an accident. He didn't know that Eve was going to turn her head, however he didn't mind that she did. He was enjoying himself as she kissed him back, and he pulled her close.

Josh was unsure about how things were going to be when they pulled away, but at the moment he didn't really care. Eve was responding to him. He was starting to run out of breath and knew that he needed to pull away soon so he could get more oxygen to his brain, but he didn't want it to end.

Whenever Eve pulled away, Josh tried to catch the breath that he had lost. He stared back at her, not knowing what he was supposed to do next. Josh felt sort of awkward like, but he wasn't going to just leave Eve there when part of him wanted to run. He swallowed the abscure thought of running and just stared down at her. She was so pretty. He didn't want to move.

DId they have to talk about it? Okay Eve might have wanted to know where that came from, but it was too wonderful to put into words and explanations and likely excuses. She had turned her head into the kiss,it wasn't really as if he had bent down and intended to kiss her lips. They could...keep this to themselves...if that was what he wanted. She wasn't sure what she wanted, she wished he would speak...she wished he would be silent, she didn't know what she wished.

Eyes still searching his she saw that he wanted to run, saw that he was fighting to stay here, and she tightened her arms around him and almost whispered for him to stay, but words would not come, instead she laid her head against his chest...they could pretend it didn't happen, at least until it happened again.

She smiled a little...maybe it would happen again.

He felt Eve's hold on him tighten, and he couldn't help but give a smile. Josh knew that he wasn't going to run. There was no reason to. After all, Eve hadn't slapped him or anything of that sort. He kept his hold on her and didn't bother to let her go. He didn't want to.

Josh was unsure if he and Eve should talk about what happened or just wait until it happened again to talk about it. He leaned his head against hers and breathed in the scent of her hair. As much as he didn't want to, he finally spoke up. "It's getting late," he said with an awkward like tone. "Maybe we should start heading back before it gets too dark."

Eve was quietly contemplative in his arms enjoying the way he held her even after something awkward had happened and it did a lot to make her feel better, or easier about what just happened.

When he suggested they leave she nodded, she was still a little dazed from what happened and therefore was quick to agree.

A smile was still evident on his face. He led them toward the ladder. "I'll go first so that I can catch you if you happen to fall," Josh said quietly to her. He didn't talk above a whisper to her, because he felt like if he did, then everything that just happened would disappear and just be a dream. He reluctantly let Eve go as he climbed down the ladder.

Once his feet touched the ground, he wanted on Eve to climb down.

She nodded mildly and watched him as he reached the bottom and began to climb down her foot got caught on the third step up and she twisted backwards quiet easily. She knew Josh was back there to catch her but she hadn't meant to fall obviously. Her mind was simply elsewhere...it was more on Josh himself.

Josh watched her carefully to make sure that she wasn't going to fall. When her foot hit the third step, he moved quickly and stood where he could catch her with out a problem. Looking down at her, he smiled knowing that she was alright. "Falling for me, are we Ms. Mallory," he said with a chuckle. The words just slipped out. It was like his brain was on autopilot.

Making sure, that she was alright, he sat her on her feet carefully. Josh smiled again with a slight awkwardness. "Think you're good to walk?"

She shook her head surprised by what had happened and strangely a little shaken, she had just fallen after all, she held on a little longer, "Oh no. I'm fine." she said promisingly until she was set on her foot. She hadn't even noticed the pain coming down, but she had twisted her ankle on the step, now as she put her weight on it she nearly collapsed in his arms again from the unexpected jolt of pain.

He noticed her wincing and immediatly picked her up. "Mum or Dad might be able to fix that," he said as he fixed her in his arms. Eve felt light as a feather and he smiled down at her. "If I knew you were in that much of a hurry to get down to me, I would have carried you down on my back," he said with a teasing tone. His ears turned red and he felt a little awkward again.

"Are you ready Ms. Mallory," Josh said with some awkwardness again.

Eve was remaining quiet. She let out a nervous little chuckle when he picked her up and teased her but otherwise, she didn't really know how to act or what she was supposed to say and as his ears turned red her cheeks were already flushed.

She wanted to defend herself that she had tripped but words failed her. So she turned her head to his shoulder and rested against him trying to nonverbally convey her gratitude.

Eve was being awfully quiet, and that made Josh feel even more awkward. He tried to lighten the mood a little, but it seemed to be failing. Maybe she didn't like the fact that he kissed her. Maybe she regreted it. So many thoughts grew in his mind as he grew quite.

His face lost its smile as he started to think. Everytime he would think of a question, the answer would be that she kissed him back. Was she just being nice about it though? Josh didn't know, and he wasn't going to ask at the moment.

He still couldn't help but feel warm as she rested her head against his shoulder. Without another word, Josh started to walk toward his house.

Her arms tightened around his neck as the quiet grew, thoughts flooded in her mind from every which way and she didn't know where to begin. She was having the same doubts he was having, why couldn't they just talk about what happened? Sighing she realized she was in the same boat as him and she rested her forehead against his chin her fingertips lightly fingering the ends of his hair, she didn't want to think about what happened, she just preferred to remember it as the beautiful moment that it had been.

She had to make it hard for him not to stop and kiss her again. She made it hard for him to keep his thoughts of her inside.

Josh continued on to his house. He closed his eyes for a moment as Eve rested her head against his chin. He wanted this not to end, but he knew that it would not continue. Neither of them really saying anything. No matter what would happen, he didn't regret her turning her head, nor did he regret kissing her at all.

He carried her into the house carefully and set her gently down on the couch. "Mum? Dad," he called.

Eve flushed after he set her down, as if waking her up. She had been content to lay in his arms and think of that kiss, but now that they were back in the house she was decidedly pink with embarrassment over the whole situation her ankle that was, not the kiss.

Oh the kiss...

Okay, now she was embarrassed about that too and flushed even deeper.

Josh noticed that Eve's cheeks were flushed, but he didn't quite know. However, he did know why his ears were still red. He kept playing the scene over and over in his mind. In addition to that he remained holding on to Eve instead of letting her go.

Maybe he would talk with her about it tonight. Hopefully he would build up enough encourage to even possibly mention her. Josh swept hair from her face gently. "How bad is it hurting?"

Her breath held a little when his hand went to her face. Brushing her hair back was his intent but she turned into his hand and closed her eyes, " It doesn't hurt at all." she whispered, it did but she couldn't think about her ankle when he was around, just like when she was a little girl and tossed from the tree she didn't feel any pain when he was there.

A smile spread across his face as she nestled her cheek into his hand. Josh kept his hand there and gently rubbed his thumb on her cheek. "Good," he whispered back. He was relieved that she wasn't in much pain. He would hate to see her that way, because he knew that if she ever was in great pain, or even just slightly, he would change places with her without a second thought.
