After his business with Voldemort...which had been nerve racking, he as promised set out for the Rusty Nail to meet up with Christian.
He wondered if he was doing the right thing by Diana in telling Christian what he knew, although thinking again if he had a daughter out there somewhere, he would deserve to know it.
With that he opened the doors and walked in with confidence glancing around for Christian.

Christian had been sitting in the Nail for a while waiting for Derek to finish his business back at the headquarters. Sitting at a table in a far corner, he sipped on a firewhiskey as he watched the other shady characters come in and out of the pub, if Christian were a lesser assassin he would of made one of these drunkards a mark, but they looked to have nothing more valuable than a few knuts on hand and that was too low profile for Christian Ward.
Spotting a familiar figure walking in he stood up and motioned for Derek to come over and join him, sitting back down he eyed Derek waiting for him to speak first.

Spotting the man he made his way directly there not pausing to look at anyone, it would have been an invitation for trouble and while Derek could more than handle himself he didn't want to deal with a hassle before talking to Christian.
He sat and ordered a firewhiskey. He wasn't prolonging the moment persay, he was just rather getting comfortable and making sure no one else would bother them.
"Here's what I know." he started.
He told Christian how he had met Diana, and while he was vague about a few things he somewhat described how Whistler had been taken care of, giving her his general disgust for child harmers.
But then Derek delved into the interesting, it was his turn to get theatrical.
"Diana Crawford up until two years ago was a nobody. Just some social lite that nobody had paid attention to except you of course fifteen years ago.
Again fifteen years ago she gave birth to a baby girl," he looked Christian in the eye as if to say...isn't that a coincidence... then he continued "but that baby died, on the record in that hospital. Except that...she didn't. The records were faked and one healthy baby disappeared from that hospital that night and disappeared into the system."
Derek leaned forward a bit, "From what I have been able to gather Diana's father had the hospital fake those records and took the baby himself hiding the child somewhere in America, which is where I found Diana. Two years ago Old Man Crawford died and my guess is he was feeling guilty about the secret he was keeping, he told Diana and thus began the hunt for her missing daughter. Whistler promised her information and that information went to a bad source...Whistler was...well she killed him Christian...she's...she's got quite a record now, nothing to rival yours of course, but she's been vicious it's not just a curse and out the window, she tortured some of those people...it's why she caught my attention for our Lord. But that's why she was there with me today...she's still searching for her daughter...she's never seen the girl." Derek ended on the sad note then sat back speculatively.
"Christian...was Diana a virgin when you...um...had her?"

Christian listened intently as Derek told the tale he had learned from Diana, Christian was both shocked and a bit hurt, he had asked Diana once what had happened and she refused to tell him. Yet she told Derek everything, maybe it was his charm, maybe she was his mark for a night and he heard this story and decided to recruit her. One thing that was for sure, his little Diana was no longer the young, innocent witch that she was fifteen years ago. "Fifteen years ago....." He knew it, he knew deep down that the daughter Diana kept telling him about was his, and now he saw the reason behind her hatred for him.
"Yes, she was..." He thought back to when he met up with Diana again after their school days, she was so pure, so innocent yet she stole Christian's heart and he never even knew it. "She was as pure as the winter's snow Derek."

Derek nodded, "Then you know that her daughter is... well" Derek cleared his throat, "I mean it's a pretty good assumption that Diana's daughter is your daughter as well."
Diana actually hadn't told him a thing, he had to pay to learn about her, and he had to pay to get his dirt, those medical records, all of it. With a sigh he lowered his eyes to the ground, " She's worried...she has a right to be worried, I know it's ugly business but the organization has killed children...many of them nameless...as long as the child didn't belong to a pureblood. There's no doubt that your daughter would have been invited to one of the schools, my best guess would be hogwarts...but there is no accounting for the dead children Christian...I'm sorry."
Briefly Derek thought about the hogsmeade attack, if the love child Christian and Diana had created still did exist and if she did go to hogwarts they had better find her before that attack.

Christian nodded as Derek confirmed what he had already concluded about Diana's daughter being his as well. Listening intently as Derek spoke he had a point and it was quite a good one. "Your probably right, Hogwarts is famous enough the chances are best of her being there. The only thing is how do we get into the school with the security as tight as it is now, since the death of that student that place has been on lockdown. Does anyone even know the kid's name? Or what she could possibly look like? There is a whole lot of questions, I just don't know to answer, maybe Diana was right, maybe the Dark Lord is the only way..."

"There are those already in his service that are placed in the school... you may owe some heavy favors but they might be able to look for the girl. I'll be going there before the attack to pick up my nieces and nephews...if you find out who your daughter is I'll take her with me...but.." he paused they had to find out who the girl was first.
"No idea...who she is, Diana's father took away all magical traces that would show the girl to be Diana's..." but then a thought occurred, "But not yours..." he said suddenly. "There's a chance...a good one that you could probably find her with your blood in the tracing spell..only... I don't know anything about those sort of things..." he pondered that for a second, Diana would know...she had been trying to come up with another way of finding her daughter through a relative's blood but the spell wasn't strong enough, with Christian's blood it would be.
"You're going to have to talk with your..."he was about to say wife but obviously reminding himself that the two were not married continued, " daughter's mother on that one." it sounded weird even in Derek's ears that Christian was now a father.

Christian stared hard at the table, if his eyes were weapons the poor, defenseless table would be well beyond dead. Listening to Derek as he spoke, he didn't think of the tracing spells, she was his daughter it could very well work. "Your smarter than you look Derek Burke." Chuckling he was extremely happy at the moment and at the same time trying to find a way to hide the dread of meeting with Diana again. She had said, she never wanted to see him again but this is more important than both of them. "Derek, thank you for this. I owe you huge, you ever need my help you just tell me.." Without another word, Christian was up from the table and out the door, to find Diana and eventually their daughter.

Derek was smart, even if his brother didn't credit him with his intelligence. Bringing Diana to the Dark Lord might not have been the greatest idea but it still might prove worth the acquaintance if it earned him a favor from Christian, he'd keep that in his mind.
All in all he was ahead in his own personal business which to him was what mattered.
Yes he wanted Diana to get her daughter back, no he wasn't worried if he betrayed her confidence. The father of the child, unless the bastard was abusive which Christian would not be...despite his earlier threats Derek knew full well that man would never hurt Diana, not physically anyway, well he deserved to know about the baby, besides Christian was the best bet for Diana to get her daughter back.
