Diana took a well known route down to a well known pub and took well known steps into a well known Bar with the single thought, "What the hell was she doing back in London?"
She paused in the doorway and glanced around but refused to take her sunglasses off, things hadn't changed since she had been a student, and they probably never would change at that.
The Hog's Head was sparsely populated which was convenient for her plans scoping the area she knew the man she intended to meet was not there yet and so she took a seat at the bar to order a drink.
She preferred it this way actually, without him being there that meant she'd have time to make the space her own.

Derek had meant to do the exact thing however he was running late at least running late for trying to arrive early. Normally he didn't take such precautions unless dealing with business. He tried not to think of this meeting as business, in fact he was in it for pleasure but all of his previous meetings with Diana told him that business is what he was going to get.
Derek had found her in America and even though she was older than him something about her intrigued the hell out of him. Contrary to her icy demeanor she actually attracted Derek. Enough so that he learned her story…well as much of it as he could, and he promised to help her. She doubted that anything he could do would actually help her but he could tell she was getting desperate.

She accepted the drink and laid down enough coin to pay for it and anything else she would want this round. She might as well open up old tabs if she was going to be staying in town long, she didn't know that she was going to be staying in town yet but she had the feeling that perhaps, just perhaps this trip would lead her somewhere.
She had been convinced enough to come down anyway so she might as well try and convince herself to stay.
Her father had been smart in giving her daughter away and made it almost impossible for Diana to find her by removing all magical traces and blood bond between the two. But she was desperate and desperate women reacted desperately.

He was excited about seeing her however. Some sort of inner fire sparked, perhaps it was the challenge, perhaps it was the danger, and yes there was danger involved.
In fact Diana was quite dangerous it was how they met really.
Whistler, a contact of his who dealt in underground activities had endured a "hostile takeover" by none other than the comely vixen. Hostile takeover as in he had been killed, murdered actually.
Careful as always Derek investigated his soon to be new business partner and the demise of his last one to find out some highly intriguing news.
Diana had been promised a lead by Whistler. He had all sorts of connections other than just Derek, some including the kind that would know where illegal adoptions and children might go. He needed Diana’s connections through the uppercrust world and she agreed, the man ran his dirty business through her for two weeks before Diana wanted her lead.
The "lead" just happened to be a ruse Whistler was using to take advantage of Diana. It was a complete dead end, and by the time she was through with her anger, so was Whistler. Derek's lesson: She didn’t like to be led astray, and he was hoping to get her to the right people.

She took her drink to a booth and kept her eyes on the door for Derek and when he would show up. She was a bit skeptical about him, hell she was a bit skeptical about a lot of things. She had done too many things in this reckless pursuit and she was losing her mind. Whistler was the proof of that.
She had been outraged at the "lead" Whistler had given her. It wasn't where her daughter might have gone to be adopted. No, it was a place where they sold children for...other things. She had snapped and through a "rough" interrogation she found that Whistler was involved in the profits stemming from the disgusting business. She saw the small children there and her heart broke, that somewhere...maybe...her daughter had endured something so utterly atrocious was maddening. She went to Whistler and made a trade since he liked dealing so much, her broken heart, and his broken neck.
She found killing him to be rather easy in fact, but it had been a step she couldn't turn back from. She was what she was now.
After Whistler she assumed his business and weeded out the disgust that was more crippling his income than helping it and she had nothing against taking a full measure of vengeance against those she now saw fit to take vengeance against. Still...it had been so long with no news of her daughter she had all but given up. Until Derek mentioned he might know...someone.

Derek for his part saw potential. She was a skilled mercenary now. She didn't want or need money, but she needed information, she needed power. Derek knew someone powerful, someone who...if you were useful to him could be upon occasion very generous in return.
Assuming you were useful to him. If you had the skills, if you had the ruthlessness. Well Diana had three bonuses: she was ruthless, she was desperate, and she had connections. Derek knew the Dark Lord was searching for recruits, and the Dark Lord too was just about the most powerful wizard there was, if anyone could find Diana’s daughter it would be him if only for how far his hand stretched and who he influenced.
But Voldemort wasn't Derek's first choice for help in Diana's case. Oh he had every intention of introducing the two, but there were other ways of finding the child, namely his nieces.
It would be difficult because they didn't have a name or a description or anything of the sort, but they would work something out.
Perhaps he was just a little eager to gain favor with his Lord, and Diana would be an asset, it seemed the woman didn't care what she had to do as long as she could find her daughter in the end.

As time was nearing for their meeting Diana downed the last of her drink and tried to reign in her nerves, she was at the end of her rope it seemed and there only appeared to be a few options now...one of them was giving up and she couldn't bear that.
Someone entered the bar and she looked up to see if it was the same man she had met in America.

Derek paused in the doorway as well and looked around for who he was supposed to meet there, he had the advantage with the sun behind him that you could only see the shadows of his face but he could see into the room. He spotted her immediately and slowly he began his decent.
"Miss Crawford."

"I'm thirty four years old, I was a "miss" for thirty of those years, we can dispense with the formalities, Crawford is fine. Now..." she paused taking off her glasses to reveal eyes cold as ice, "You want to tell me what the hell I'm doing in London?"

Derek explained his plan to her, that she would be meeting with someone very influential, very powerful. He explained the proper etiquette for dealing with such a man and got through all the skeptical looks and what he imagined was pride behind that stubborn jaw. He was almost amused with her stance on bowing in front of man but he reminded her of what she was after and she quieted.
He didn't know when he could set up the meeting and he was a little nervous for her he hoped she did well otherwise it was both their necks on the line.
Still as he talked with her he realized something very important that his "bad boy" challenge loving self didn't see in America.
Diana Crawford was quite simply Untouchable.

They finished their business and he bought her a drink, or tried to anyway but she made it painfully clear she wasn't interested, and by painful she meant by giving him an eyeful of her newest nine and a half inch blade. The funny or less than amusing thing about Diana was she always had a blade somewhere on her, and it had come in handy in the past, she had no qualms about using it in the present.
With their meeting over with she told him that she expected updates before she got up to leave.
She had several things to do, the first was finding a place to stay that night.
It wasn't that she didn't like Derek, or that she didn't think he was handsome, a little young for her tastes but that didn't matter, it was simply a dead issue. Nothing moved her anymore, she had been with one man in her entire life and she didn't see the point in being with another.
