Not long after getting back to the castle with Anya, Remus slipped off to his room to write a quick note to Zander:
Dear Zander and Pearl,
I met a girl today who is my age and a werewolf. She is a student at my school and her name is Anya. I told her about you and the pack and she would like to meet you. Please tell me if you can meet her this weekend, and I will bring her over to meet you.
Thanks,
Remus
Then he headed up to the owlery to mail the letter using one of the school owls. He hoped he would hear back from them soon.

Zander was pleasantly surprised to receive the note from Remus. He was very fond of the boy, of course. It was hard not to be. Knowing how much he had suffered when he was bitten, he couldn't imagine how it must have been for the boy all these years to living virtually alone with his condition. Zander was glad that he and Pearl ahd been able to help him.
So hearing that Remus had found another young werewolf who might want to join the pack, Zander's response was immediate. Without talking to Pearl first, he responded to the affirmative in a return letter, which he sent off promptly. Then he went off to talk to Pearl about the new prospect.

Pearl was sitting in the living room, busy mending as much of the packs' clothing as she could. She still wasn't very used to thinking like a human, but her gut instinct was to try and provide for her pack. So she sat mending while Chloe, who was very human, had a human job. She couldn't see how humans distinguished between themselves, they were all human, some were magic some were not and some just not British, But in the end they were all human and were not like her and her beautiful and strong Zander was both, Human and like her. She sighed and he appeared before her as if he could hear her think of him, she smiled.

Zander approached Pearl and leaned down to press a kiss on the top of her head. "Good morning, Pearl," he said. He smiled as he knelt down on the floor next to her. "I just got a letter from Zander," he said. "He's found a new girl at his school who is a werewolf, and he wants us to meet her."

Pearl perked up and dropped the shirt she was mending. "Really? Another so young?" it was a little sad, but she was excited at the prospect of another pup, she hadn't made one herself...but Zander seemed opposed to the idea, even if he already had made one, so she didn't mention the desire for pups. "When are we meeting her? today? at the moon?" she sounded excited so she took an obvious breath to clam down, then she smiled.

"They should be here later today," Zander said warmly. He smiled at her enthusiasm. "You really do like having pups around, don't you? It's like your chance to be a mother."
He'd been thinking about something for a while, but wasn't sure how to bring it up to her. Although they were already mates in the werewolf term, Zander still lived his life half-straddling the wolf and human worlds. He still had an old-fashioned human attitude in his mind, which required him to make a firm commitment in the eyes of the wizarding world. Then, perhaps, they could have children of their own. Not pups, but children. But he wasn't sure what would happen to children born to two werewolves. Would their children truly be pups?

Pearl blushed, "Most Alpha's don't have pups of their own...Something in us ,maybe because life is difficult, but I've never heard of a pup" she made as if she was cradling a baby "Being born" It was true, she had never seen another female with child. Perhaps it's very rare, or very hard. Either way she didn't know why Zander seemed to give her a lingering look. She liked the feeling of being looked at by him. He seemed possesive in his look, so she put her hands on her warm cheeks and laughed. "I've always liked pups, they are normally so willing to learn and play, they always grow to fast though."

Zander smiled. "Well, it's lucky that we have been able to find so many young ones to join the pack. We can train them and help them to embrace who they are, as you did for me. This new girl... she's Remus's age. He didn't give me a lot of details, but they should be here pretty soon. How are you doing with Dean's training?"
He had a lot of worries about Dean, and he was curious to see if Pearl shared his fears for the young pup.

Pearl sighed and pulled Zander to sit next to her, instead of kneeling, "He's very difficult, He is more than willing to accept what he has in strength...But as far as accepting himself and his new role in the world...He rejects the idea of having to live like we do, I'm not saying I totally disagree...Until we came to this home, we had no where, food was hard to come by, and walking into a market just wasn't going to happen, but we really do much better here on the fringe. Zander, He is too used to comforts and luxuries we just do not have, he resents it." Pearl's face crumpled into a look of sadness, she had never failed before into raising a pup properly, but she felt that Dean was beyond her ability, "He's never even felt the ground under his feet without shoes, he's very strong...but very tender, He's frail almost in a way." It broke her heart to see such a strong pup unable to run in the woods because his feet were so soft they would tear at small twigs or stones.

Zander leaned his head against her shoulder. "I worry for him, too. He has such anger in him. I know I had problems with that in the beginning, but I fought against it. I don't think he's fighting it... I think he welcomes it. He's also lazy.... like he doesn't want to put forth the effort he needs to get used to his situation."
Zander still felt a lot of guilt over turning Dean. He had never meant to do it, but now that the boy was here, he was anxious to make things right with him. But he just didn't seem to fit in.

Pearl wiped the tears from her eyes and nodded solemnly "He's very lazy, and is very unapologetic about it..." she sighed and added "I have never once failed to get a pup to accept themselves and the pack, to live with the pack." she sank toward him, Even the adults that had been turned listened to her, but Human teenagers had her stumped! If Dean was any indication, they all didn't listen to experience, follow good examples and went against common sense. It exhausted her dealing with Dean some days.

Zander gave a sad sigh. "I really wish I could have stopped myself from biting him. I never really wanted to make any pups at all... but most of all, I didn't want to do it in anger. Sometimes, I fear he is like I was to Greyback. I don't think he has any leadership qualities, but there's a rebelliousness in him that I'm not sure we can rid him of. But Pearl, if your training doesn't take with him, please understand that it's not your fault. He's flawed."

Pearl frowned, and sighed "It's hard for me to accept that he's flawed, but it's all in him, sitting there a wasted knot of what might of been. Strong and reckless and lazy. He doesn't lead because it's too much work." she dried her eyes and leaned into Zander, feeling him strong and solid under her cheek. "I don't want him to influence the new pup, He won't be trained when she is being taught. " she said with a nodded against Zander's shoulder. She had hoped to see Dean outside and walking, getting used to the feel of the dirt under his own feet, calming the fire that could consume all of them for blood and maybe revenge too. Once bitten, they were out cast maybe that offended the wolf within them, cast out of their human 'pack' by a bite as so the desire to bite them for the rejection. She didn't know for sure, but she knew she really couldn't hold it against the human race for rejecting werewolves, they were after all hunters.

Zander nodded. "I think that's a good idea," he said quietly. "Dean... he needs a delicate hand. And if there's any hope that he'll be able to learn how to use his skills, I know that you can do it. I just hope it's not too late. I think he was flawed before he was bitten... he had too many bad habits already, and now everything is magnified. Maybe if you can find out what his life was like before... maybe you can help him that way. I don't know. I was lucky... until I was cast out of my family, I had a good life. My sister and brother and I were close..."
He trailed off at the mention of Ian. It had been a while since he had thought about his little brother, who had been taken away from him so young. He couldn't help but get choked up at the thought of him. Ian had been the best of all of them.

Remus felt strangely nervous as he waited for Anya, so he could take her to meet Zander and Pearl. He didn't know why, but somehow he felt like this was important. He liked Anya, quiet and strange though she was. He supposed the same could probably be said about him, anyway.
He hoped Zander and Pearl would like Anya, but he couldn't imagine why they wouldn't. She wasn't angry or bitter like Dean, and they even accepted him. He also wondered what Anya would think about them, and if she would be happy to have the chance to be with others like herself. He didn't really know Anya very well yet, so he couldn't help but worry just a little bit.
He was sitting in the common room, waiting by the fire for her. Since he didn't want to be seen leaving the school, and he didn't know how to ask permission to leave, he was planning to take the secret passageway through Honeydukes.

Anya crept to the common room, nervous and excited. The prospect of meeting others like herself in school had been thought of as rare, even unheard of, but upon meeting Remus and hearing of his pack was just so thrilling. She pushed away her secret self loathing and guilt over what family she had left, the stress of keeping her safe was so much, too much, for her grandparents. She missed them and her old home, however, she had to make her her home where ever she was now. She reached the bottom of the stairs of the girls’ dormitory and saw Remus waiting by the fire. "Hello." she sounded fluttery to her own ears and swallowed a knot in her throat. She looked at the fire and then to Remus and asked, "Are we going through the floo?" Maybe he had permission for such occasions, she couldn't be sure. She hadn't known Remus for every long, but she felt that she could trust him.

Remus smiled at the sight of her. She had an ethereal quality to her, almost otherwordly. He barely knew her, but he felt at ease with her. "Hey," he said, feeling suddenly shy and awkward.
How did she manage to move with such grace? It reminded him of Pearl and Skye, they both moved as if they were floating. He didn't move like that. It was as if he was dragging on the ground most of the time. The pull of the moon constantly wore on him, like a tag sewn into the collar of his robe that scratched against the back of his neck. He could always feel it.
"No... we're going to take a secret passage," he replied quietly. Just follow me."
He'd explain more later, when he could. But now was not the time. Not where someone could hear them."

Anya nodded and felt the thrill of urgency to make it to the meeting place with little delay. "Lead, and I'll follow you." She noticed his discomfort, maybe this was riskier than she had previously thought. She pushed the feeling aside, the desire to meet a real pack was so much greater than her fear of being caught out of bounds. She smiled at Remus and thought perhaps that was a reason why they were Gryffindor. Anya stepped after Remus with light feet, purposefully placing her feet where she wanted them. The difference was between soft taps on the hard ground and thundering across the corridors and carpets of the common room. Remus didn't have the same sort of walk. He walked like most everyone else, maybe he liked it better that way, in a way he was blending in further than she was. She shook the idea from her head, it was such a stupid thought. She concentrated on following him as he led her toward the secret passage.

He couldn't help but get choked up at the thought of him. Ian had been the best of all of them. Pearl nodded and understood the pain Zander had for the loss of his human family. While she had been too small to really understand that she had what he had in the past, she understood the rejection because Fenrir had shown her how humans always rejected them. When she was younger it was easy to follow Fenrir, but as she grew she began to hold herself apart from how he treated new pack members, He made them feel weak or helpless, only to have them cling to him as alpha. "We are helping pass the hurt of that moment, We are a pack now" she said simply "Even if we may not have our own young, we will help the ones we find." she hugged him and savored the feel of having him close. It was odd that the idea of having her own baby hadn't hurt until she thought of having one with Zander, her true mate. "I had better clear away these things." she paused before called Remus and the newest member pups, "The children may not understand why the mending if they are meant to be ripped again." and she folded the shirt she was mending into a pile that wasn't done being sewn. She smiled at him as she picked up her pile and gave him a kiss, then she turned and headed toward one of the rooms that they used to hold their clothing.

It had never set well with Zander, the way Greyback led his pack. From the moment Zander had been bitten, Greyback had done his best to put him down, to make him feel helpless and incompetent. Well, Zander already had enough of that from his parents after failing his auror exam. He wasn't going to take it from Greyback, too, especially since the man was so deluded as to think that he was a wolf all the time. It might have taken Zander some time to reconcile his wolf side with his human side, but at least he was able to acknowledge that both sides were a part of him. Greyback seemed to have completely turned his back on his human side.
So now that he had his own pack, Zander's goal was to support his pack members, to make them stronger, and to treat each of them as if they were an important part of the team. Each had their own skills and abilities and their own contributions to make.
"Fenrir's been quiet for a while," he commented, most as an idle observation than anything else. "I can't help but wonder if he's plotting something."
