Like any good Slytherin from a prominent family, Xavier wrote to his parents often. Many did it out of duty, but Xavier really loved and worshipped his parents, so he enjoyed writing to them as often as possible. Sometimes he wrote them as often as three times a week. But this week he hadn't sent one yet, because schoolwork had kept him busy.
So as soon as he'd managed to get a spare minute, he'd finished off a letter to his parents and headed up to the owlery to send it. He had his own owl, of course, a young tawny owl by the name of Solomon. Summoning the owl, he fed him an owl treat and stroked his feathers for a moment. He kind of liked the quiet time alone.

Joey was still in her first year of Hogwarts, comming from a squib mother and muggle father, she was not quite used to the owls. But she found she loved them and still had that odd sense of awe at the magical world. Her grandfather had been a pro-quidditch player before he retired, but that was something she'd learned of only in the past year. Her whole world had changed but she liked it. She had to admit, that she loved the magical world and had been grateful when she'd received her letter to Hogwarts over the summer.
She walked to the owlery to send her grandfather a letter. She'd become very close to her grandfather in the past year, since he was the only one at home she could really share things with that would truely understand. She had a bright smile, her normal cheery and laughing face was full of life and fun with the world. She didn't dislike any of the other houses, even though a few of her friends had a dislike for Slytherins. But she was truely non-partial to the whole thing and judged people on a case by case basis. So when she saw the slytherin boy feeding an owl she just smiled at him. "Hello, here to send a letter too?"

Xavier glanced up at the girl. She was younger than he was, and judging by the red and gold trim on her robes, she was clearly a Gryffindor. It would have been easy to give her a snotty remark just then, but Xavier wasn't like that. Growing up with a sibling in each house, he was pretty comfortable with all the houses. He sometimes had issues with Hufflepuffs, but the typical Slytherin-Gryffindor rivalry did not apply to Xavier.
"Hey," he said to the girl. "Yeah, I was just mailing a letter to my mum and dad, They expect a letter from me every week. How about you?"

Joey relaxed a bit when he replied to her, he wasn't snearing at her like some slytherins had and that made her feel more comfortable. "Sending a letter to my grandfather. Ever since I got my letter to Hogwarts we've gotten much closer. I think I'm still adjusting to the wizarding world and my grandfather seems like a whole new person to me now that I know the truth. He was a retired quidditch player, and I'd never even known that until last summer. I miss my family, but I love being here too. I'm still meeting so many new people and have so much to learn still. I'm Joey Taylor, by the way. First year Gryffindor." She said as she realized she was rambling on and hadn't even introduced herself. Her smile was genuine though and she had a very friendly and open personality that was obvious in the way she talked. Her smile was almost infectious, like a breath of fresh air and very down to earth and easy going.

The girl sure talked a lot. And she talked fast, too. Xavier wasn't used to it all, and as a result, he only really processed half of what she said. Normally he would find this kind of energy annoying in a person, but it seemed so genuine in her that a small smile curled across his face.
"Wow," he said in his quiet voice, drawing his words out deliberately. "I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk so fast. Are you always like that?"

Joey blushed at his comment, "Just when I'm meeting a cute boy." She laughed, it was really a joke but it was half true. She did have an easy way of talking to people, unrestrained friendliness is what her grandfather always called it. But the talking fast part... that was completely because of nerves talking to a cute boy. She was unfailingly honest though, she held nothing back and she was like one of those rare open books that didn't care what others thought of her because she liked herself just how she was and wasn't afraid to be herself.

It was Xavier's turn to blush. He never really thought of himself as being cute... he had entirely too many good-looking siblings to think of himself as standing out in that way. So to be called cute by a girl who was as pretty as she was came as a bit of a surprise to him. If one of his siblings had said it, he probably would have punched them.
"Thanks, I think," he said. "Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Joey. I'm Xavier Scotts."

"Nice to meet you Xavier Scotts. Is that from THE family of Scotts?" It wasn't as if the Scotts were not well known, by anyone in the wizarding world.. even those who were new to it have at least heard the name. She noticed his blush though and she though it was cute on him. He may not be as handsome as her friend Sirius, but he was definatly cute as far as she was concerned.
She didn't really care if he was from the family of the high society pureblood families. After all so was her best friend Sirius too. She didn't judge people on their families as much as she didn't judge on their house.

Xavier almost rolled his eyes at the mention of his family name. He was used to that kind of reaction, and there were a lot of people who would get close to him simply because of it. But seeing that Joey was not one of those people helped him to relax a little.
"Yeah, I am one of THOSE Scotts," he said with a cynical grin. "You can't throw a stone in this castle without hitting one of us, it seems. I'm the youngest, so it seems like where ever I go, someone's comparing me to one of my older siblings."

"Well I don't really know anyone in your family so I guess I'm safe. I've seen your sister in the common rooms but we've never talked. So I have nothing to compare you with except for yourself. Besides that I don't like to judge people until after I get to know them for who they are." She smiled at him, "So you get a clean slate with me, do with it as you wish." Joey chuckled softly.

Xavier smiled. "It's not often I get to talk to someone who automatically thinks they know who I am, because of my family."
He finished attaching the letter to Solomon's leg, then gave the bird a quick stroke before letting him go. He watched as the owl took off in flight.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" he asked casually.

Joey leaned back against the railing watching as the owl flew away, her own owl already long out of sight. "No, just me, myself and I. But I don't mind too much, I wouldn't know what it is like with siblings. But I can imagine it's likely a blessing and a curse all in one having siblings to compete with for attention." She couldn't really say she'd like having siblings, but that was more because her parents had always showered her with love and affection. She wasn't spoiled, but she'd never had to compete with siblings for her parent's affection.

Xavier shrugged. "Yeah, it can be kind of a pain having all those siblings. Well, I don't mind Justin and Gwen so much. They're the oldest two. But Thane and especially Timmy... they're closer to my age and they really annoy me sometimes. You know, like they mess up my hair or steal my stuff. Thane's, like, this genius or something, and is always forgetting stuff so he has to steal mine. Tim's just annoying." He laughed slightly, realizing that she probably had no idea what he was talking about. "Anyway... just consider yourself lucky... you get your parents all to yourself."

She did consider herself luckily. More so after Xavier finished giving her a brief detail of his siblings. "Wow. I knew there were a lot of you, but I didn't know there were that many. It must've been some sort of hassle getting attention with four older siblings. I don't envy you." She couldn't imagine living one brother or sister. But four...

Xavier shrugged. "Yeah, it was kinda tough... And we're all so different. Justin's sorta like me, I guess. Gwen's in Gryffindor, Tim's in Hufflepuff, and Thane's in Ravenclaw. Then me in Slytherin. The only way I ever really stood out or got attention was because I did whatever my parents told me, and I always agreed with them. Even if I didn't. So they treat me like the Golden Child."
He made a face as he said this. He actually hated the term, even though he heard it all the time. He felt like it was all a lie. He just didn't like to make waves, so he went along with what was said. But he refused to think there was anything wrong with Gwen because she didn't go along with what their parents said. Timmy... well, him he had a problem with.
