Adelaide had gotten her books from the Ravenclaw dorms and was on her way to meet Peter in the Great Hall when she made a slight detour. She entered her parents' living quarters without knocking, it was practically home anyways.
"Mum? Are you here?" She looked in the front room first, then the kitchen nook.

Amadora came out of Clarissa's room with a smile when she heard Adelaide's voice in the front room. "Adelaide!" She smiled as soon as she saw her oldest daughter. "How are you sweetheart?" Dora went over to give her a motherly kiss on the cheek and a hug. "And how are your studies doing?"

She gave her mother a hug back and bounced excitedly on the balls of her feet. "I'm good. I'm going to study with a friend after dinner. I think I'm doing okay." She skipped over to the kitchen and got herself a glass of water. "Are you and daddy going to be at the Yule Ball?"

Amadora just smiled and responded, "Yes we're going to help chaperon for the dance, along with some of the staff who choose to come. Has anyone asked you to the dance yet, dear?" She knew her daughter was considered pretty for her age and would likely have a line of boys hoping for a chance, though she also knew how Carlisle was likely to react depending on who the boy was. And if not would be watching his little girl like a hawk.

"Peter Pettigrew just asked me. He's in second year. And he's a Gryffindor. And he's really nice. I'm going to sit with him at dinner tonight and then we are going to study in the library. So I need nice dressrobes. Can I get some? I want purple ones maybe. Or blue. I don't know." She was so excited to tell her mother about her 'date' that she was just rambling now.

"Peter Pettigrew... is he the boy that hangs out with Sirius Black?" She had a knack for names and faces for those who visited the library more than once. "I'm sure we can convince your father to splurge a little so you can get a pretty dress for the dance, Adelaide. I'll have a talk with him tonight and then we can go with you on Hogsmede weekend to pick something out. I'm sure your father will want to make sure he approves that it isn't too revealing before he lets us buy you one." She smiled winking at her daughter. They both knew that Carlisle was protective of his girls but he spoiled them when he could. She was sure he would make this a special occasion to do just that.

Adelaide nodded. Her mum was very good at remembering people. "Do you think daddy will mind him taking me?" She didn't want her father to embarass her by questioning Peter or anything, because she knew that he was protective. If he did anything of the sort she would not be able to go to the ball, she'd be too mortified.
*Parents embarassing their children...must be puberty kicking in.*
"I can't wait. Will you do my hair like yours too?" She was very excited for her first formal anything. Even more now that she had a date to go with.

"Of course, sweetheart. I'll fix you're hair up for you and even help you sneak on a little tiny bit of makeup. Just don't tell your father." She gave her daughter one of those mother-daughter conspiratorial winks. "And I don't think he'll mind too much, as long he is well behaved and keeps his lips off you. But I'll see what I can do to keep your father distracted enough to not bug you too much at the dance." She smiled at her daughter but she was also completely serious, if nothing Amadora believed in proper behavior of her daughters in public and wouldn't have them behaving like anything but the ladies they were.

"Mu-um!" It was all too embarrassing having her mum talking about Peter kissing her. The thought had never even crossed her mind that Peter would kiss her. Why did parents have to worry about things like that? At least her mum had promised to keep her dad at bay during the dance, that was a relief. And her mum had very good taste in clothes, she always looked so pretty. So she knew their shopping trip would be a successful one.

Amadora chuckled at her daughter but tried to give a reassuring smile. "I'm sure everything will be fine, sweetheart. How about if we get you ready here and then Peter can meet you outside the Hall, and that way I can keep your father busy from having to talk to him beforehand? But I can't guarantee your father won't have a talk with him between now and the dance after class one day."
She knew her husband well enough to know that he might just do that but then again he might wait until the dance and if that was the case she could try to spare Adelaide the mortification that she was sure would follow. She'd been a young girl once too and remembered what it was like to think of your parents, and the fact that they worked in the school was likely worse for Adelaide in that respect of being embarrassed easily.
"Adelaide, I wanted to talk to you about something since you're here. What would you think if you had a new baby brother or sister?" Amadora hoped she would be happy with it, considering that they'd already begun trying for another child in the past couple of weeks since the night of the champion selection ceremony.

"Okay, that sounds great. You'll tell him for me, won't you?" She wasn't afraid of her father, just afraid of making him worried or disappointed. Never having a date before, she wasn't sure which, if either, to expect. It was best if her parents discussed it before Adelaide talked with him about it.
Adelaide was in a good mood still, and the mention of another possible sibling excited her even more. She had always thought it would be fun to have a baby brother, since she had already had a baby sister. But no one had ever talked about it after Clarissa was born. On her mean days, which were very few and far between, Adelaide had actually blamed Clarissa for their parents not wanting anymore children. This always made Clarissa cry and Adelaide regretted it later. Adelaide knew that her sister was not the reason their family had not grown in the past eight years, but jealousy and childishness made little children say mean things sometimes.
"Really? Oh mommy, that'd be so much fun! I want a little brother! What did Clarissa say?"

"We haven't told Clarissa yet. I wanted to tell you first since you're the oldest. Clarissa is in her room taking a nap, but when she wakes up I'll tell her too. I just hoped you wouldn't be upset if our family grew again, since I know it's been a long time since Clarissa was born. I don't know if it will be a brother or sister, though so don't get your hopes up one way or another. It's not like we can choose, my dear."
She chuckled softly at the mention of the brother. She would love to have a son, had always wanted one... but she also knew that she loved her daughters and wouldn't mind another girl either. Carlisle loved his girls the best, but Amadora had always wanted at least one son. She secretly hoped, like Adelaide, that the baby would be a boy. Of course, she didn't know if she was pregnant yet.. it was still too soon to know but the trying was part of the fun.

Upset? How could she be upset about having another little sister or brother? Her mother was talking crazy. "Well I guess a little sister would be good too. Then Clarissa would know what its like. But I still want a brother." Adelaide finished her glass of water and put it in the sink. "I'm supposed to meet Peter for dinner. Are you and daddy coming down?"

"You're meeting him for dinner?" She smiled knowing she was going to have some explaining to do with her husband as soon as he came to get ready for dinner. His little girl was starting to grow up and date boys. "Yes of course, we'll be down for dinner as soon as your father is done with his lesson plans." She was a bit bemused still that her daughter was going to be meeting a boy for a dance.. and now to walk with him to dinner.
But she was glad that Adelaide seemed happy about them trying for another child, so that was at least one thing off her mind. She'd make sure to tell Clarissa too, but she had a feeling that Clarissa would be happy about it... the child had been begging for a little brother or sister for a few years now.

"Okay. Tell daddy not to do anything at dinner. I would just die if he said something!" She gave her mother a hug and kiss. "I think Peter's waiting for me. I didn't tell him I was stopping by here first, so he's probably wondering where I am." She walked toward the door slowly, in case her mother had anymore bombshells to drop on her, not that a new baby was really a bombshell, it was just a surprise.

"Alright sweetheart, have fun at dinner and I'll talk to your father tonight." Amadora gave her daughter a kiss and then walked her to the door. She was already thinking about what she'd say to Carlisle, and hoped he'd be back soon so they had time to talk. As Adelaide left, Amadora went to wake Clarissa for her supper before her husband came home.

Adelaide had left just as Carlisle came home. She said that she was meeting a friend for dinner and couldn't be late, so Carlisle did not try to get her to stay longer. He had, however, heard his wife say she would talk to him about something. So when he pulled the door open and stepped inside he asked, "talk to me about what?" Carlisle crossed the room and embraced his wife, giving her a kiss on the cheek and running his hands through her hair and as he looked her over. She was even more beautiful today than she was yesterday.

Amadora purred at her husband as he ran his fingers through her hair, she never made it to Clarissa's room as Carlisle had walked into the room and came to her side. As he asked his question, Amadora grinned with her mischievous cat-like grin.
"Well, apparently your daughter has been asked to the Yule Ball and asked if we could get her a dress durring Hogsmede weekend." Amadora waited to see his reaction to the news that his daughter was on her way to growing into a teenager and... the new presense of boys into that equation.

His hands paused mid-way through her hair as his wife's words set in. Adelaide was asked to the Ball. She had a date. With a boy. "By a boy?" he clarified, hoping he had misunderstood and Addy was really going with some girlfriends. He pulled back from Amadora, his brow furrowed in thought. "No. She's too young to be dating. You told her she is too young, didn't you?" He didn't like this. Not at all. He wasn't ready for his little girl to be a woman. Dates led to that, becoming a woman. There would have to be talks, explanations of certain things Carlisle did not wish to go into. No, she was far too young for all of this. He must have misunderstood.

Amadora could already see the thoughts setting in that she knew were coming, so she leaned towards him and kissed him softly and gently on the lips before replying. "Yes dear, with a young shy Gryffindor boy. And we are not going to embariss her, she went to meet him for dinner tonight." Amadora knew where this was going but she delayed it as best as possible by kissing him again and curling into his arms.
