Lyra's face was soaked with tears as she ran out of the Slytherin Common Room and up to the ground floor. Her fight with Rystain was a bad one. He had told her straight out that he only cared for her as a friend, and that he wanted to be with Lani. Any girl in this situation would have reacted in a similar way. She couldn't stay there and listen to Rystain and Lani talk about how much they cared for each other. She had to get out.
She found herself slumped on the floor, not able to remember how or when she had gotten there. She didn't even know who, if anyone, was around her. All she knew was that her world had essentially stopped, and Rystain didn't care. He said she would get over him quickly enough, which meant that he didn't grasp just how in love with him she really was. She both hated and loved him at that moment, but all she could do is cry.

"Lyra!" Sam had finally found her and her heart beat slowed down, she was putting what had just happened with Dorian out of her mind and was just trying to deal with her friend.
"Thank Merlin I found you." crouching down to her friend's level she conjured a hankerchief, another since she didn't know what Lyra did with the other one, and bent down to help wipe her friend's tears.
"Come on let's get you cleaned up love..."

Lyra didn't move from her spot on the floor, nor did she look at Sam. She was, however, comforted by her friend's arrival and sobbed a "thanks" as she took the handkerchief. She vaguely remembered having one before but couldn't remember where she had left it. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered. Rystain had chosen Lani. "Why Lani? Why did he pick Lani? She can't love him like I can. She's not good for him. She'll want to change him. She doesn't appreciate him like I do. I don't understand. Why her?"

"Because he's a boy, and boys are stupid. He's going to regret hurting you Lyra, he's going to regret giving you up I promise you that." she said emphatically while dabbing at the girl's tears, " He's a fool to choose someone over you, you're quite the catch and you know it. But there will be other Rystains I promise." she nodded, " You know what we need now don't you?"

She didn't want other Rystains. She wanted her Rystain. No, Lani's Rystain. She broke down again and began sobbing harder. "Wh-ha-at?" She knew what she needed, but she couldn't have it.

Poor thing, oh yes Rystain would be sorry for his loss. "Nevermind that..." Samantha said and pulled the girl into her arms, " You just leave everything to me, I'll take care of you, I promise." then she let Lyra cry for as long as the girl needed to cry regardless of tear stains or anything she just kept a soothing hand brushing the girl's curls back like a sister might have done.
As sympathetic as she was behaving the wheels in her mind never stopped turning, she was caring here, now, but her mind was an inferno of plans. This would be taken care of Montgomery style, quickly efficiently and definitely without question most effectively. But now...she let her friend cry.

Lyra pressed her face into Sam's shoulder and cried. Time passed so slowly it seemed to stop, like she was crying for an eternity. The tears poured down her face, soaking her hair and Sam's shirt simultaneously. Her body shook with each new wave of fierce sobs, as soon as one had finished another began. She was certain she had cried enough to fill the Black Lake twice. She felt exhausted and dehydrated and completely drained of any emotion.
Sam's soothing touches and shh's helped her to regulate her breathing, control her tears, and eventually stop crying. But the ache in her chest had not retreated. It pulsed painfully with each pathetic beat of her lonely heart, a terrible reminder that it belonged to no one. Her heart was crumbled, and broken, and unfit for anyone. Least of all Rystain. It hurt so bad to think his name. But it hurt worse not to. She didn't know what to do, but she could not cry anymore. There was no more liquid left in her entire body, she was empty.
Empty.

"Come on, lets get you up to bed." she said not Lyra's bed that would cause too many questions and she wouldn't have that, instead she headed towards the teacher's rooms and knocked on her brother's door, there were a few advantages here.

She didn't argue, she had nothing left in her to argue with. But they were not heading back to the Slytherin Commons, which confused Lyra. Where was Sam taking her? The hospital wing? She wasn't physically hurt. Emotionally, yes. But not physically.

Caleb opened the door and was a bit surprised to see his sister, not to mention the girl next to her sister but the look on Sam's face was irresistible. She was asking for help, she was silently pleading for it, there was a sickening feeling in his stomach at that moment that if she had asked he would have done just about anything in the world to help her.
"Sam...what's going on?"

"Cale...Can we come in?" she asked, when he stepped aside Sam led Lyra inside and set her down at the table before using her wand to get a cup of tea started, "I'll be right back Lyra." she whispered close to the girl. She got the tea set up for her then left her there and took her brother outside.
They were gone for five minutes before Sam came back in the room and locked the door behind her. It had taken a lot of persuading, but Caleb didn't make her beg and she was grateful for that. He demanded to know what was going on and she had promised to tell him if he could just them have his room for the night. He agreed since it wouldn't be difficult for him to sleep in the teacher's lounge or hell get started on a stack of paperwork that he had to do that would in all likely hood take all night anyway. She was incredibly grateful and reminded once more that she loved her brother and trusted him.
"How's the tea?"

Lyra moved numbly into the room and sat where Sam placed her, like a lifeless doll. She stared blankly at the teacup, barely noticing the swirls of steam that rose and evaporated in front of her face. Sam was back after what seemed like hours, but Lyra knew it couldn't have been that long. The tea was still steaming. Her friend's question reminded her that she should drink, and she lifted the cuppa to her mouth without thinking about it. She tasted nothing but nodded to appease Sam. "Thank you," she whispered as her eyes fell to the table and then unfocused.
She didn't ask why they were here instead of Lyra's dorm room. She barely took notice of Sam's brother Caleb, whom she had flirted endlessly with the last time they were near. It was impossible to think that she had been with Rystain and still messed around with other guys. She had wasted precious time that she could have spent with Rystain. She drank the tea again but there was still no flavor. "Sam? What did I do wrong? Honestly. I don't want the friend answer, I want the truth. Why not me?"

" I don't know Lyra... I don't know why not you...I don't know why Lani...I only know that this is the way it is...love is pain, it's always been pain...but you can and you will survive it, and I'm going to help." she promised. She had a few calls to make, a few owls to send, a few favors to call in, but Lyra would not be in pain long, or at least she wouldn't look like she was in pain for long.
"Why don't you get to bed now...stop thinking about it, things will look better in the morning I promise."

She shook her head. "No. I don't want to sleep. I don't think my brain will turn off long enough for me to rest." She sipped her tea again. "How are you going to help? What can you do?" Nothing. There was nothing anyone can do. She would be half and broken for the rest of time.

"I'm going to save your reputation." she said getting serious she knelt in front of Lyra, " Listen to me Lyra, I will pull every string I have to pull to make him so sorry he picked someone other than you, and by the ball you'll be the most sought after girl as long as I can help it. You'll have more guys eating out of your palm than you know what to do with, and Rystain will see what he's lost. You, Lyra Newbury, will survive, and that is the first plan of action alright? Now drink your tea you'll be out before you know it."

"Why, did you put a sleeping potion in it or something?" She was joking again, a sign that Sam's attention was helping. But she didn't laugh, still too numb to enjoy herself. She thought about what Sam had said about her reputation. Too many people in the Common Room had witnessed her breakdown. She would need some help there and Sam certainly had the connections, or her father's connections, to do so. Would it bother Rystain if she was over him quickly?

Sam avoided Lyra's eyes but she didn't feel guilty about putting the relaxant in Lyra's tea, she needed something to calm her nerves down so she could think rationally.
Sam would work on Damage control, really the only ones who had seen were Lani, Rystain, Ethan and Dorian...hmm...she might need to do some recon in a few of those areas. The rest were know nothing inconsequentials whose words would falter once Sam's plan went through.
Anyone who went out pleading that Lyra had broken down would be baffled when tomorrow a "long lost boyfriend" came to claim her for the dance. Sam just had to find a suitable boy to play the part, and thinking it over she had just the guy.

Sam avoided Lyra's eyes, or maybe Lyra avoided Sam's. She was secretly thankful that her friend had drugged her, even it was deceitful. She did feel more composed, but not at all less fractured. She doubted she'd ever feel whole again. "Are you going to tell me how stupid I was? Am?"

"Does that ever really better the situation?" she asked lightly curiously if ranting at her friend would honestly make her feel better, she doubted it, instead she sighed, "No I'm not...there are a few choice words I'd like to have with that Boy...but no...I'm not mad at you...or disappointed or any of that besides I'm not your keeper, I'm just your friend."

She was glad that Sam was not disappointed with the way she had acted tonight. She was disappointed with herself, but that was different. She had made a mistake by letting herself get attached to Rystain. But she was attached now and doubted, no matter what Sam had up her sleeve, that it would change anytime soon.
She was completely drained and it was catching up with her. "I think I may need to sleep now." She would dream of Rystain tonight, that was for sure. The uncertainty was in whether or not Lani would make an appearance as well.
