Solitary Girl (Open)

[Sophia Stark]

Sophie nodded, "Bye Adele." she said softly, but then she realized she was alone with Apollo and she cleared her throat, " Where should we start?" she asked, there was a small tremor in her voice barely noticeable, but she wasn't often alone with other people, and she was never alone with other guys.

Apollo wasn't sure right away either, but he had tutored before and took a breath, sitting in the seat that Adele had been occupying. "By telling me how you learn. Do you take notes or no?"

He could be such an academic nerd sometimes, but he was a good teacher when he needed to be.

She nodded, "Yes, I take notes." she told him, if she didn't take notes then she would never be able to stay focused on the task at hand. Which wouldn't have really mattered either since she could generally learn from the book. Most Ravenclaws didn't even have to attend the classes, but the fact was that Sophie was a good student, she enjoyed learning, and she considered note taking to be good practice for focusing her whirling thoughts of algorithms and the proper velocity of a summoning spell.

At his warm countenance and eager to teach attitude Sophie began to relax.

"Then we shall have you take notes," Apollo responded, handing her a quill and a piece of parchment from his bag.

"Or, if it's easier for you, you can just copy my notes and be done with it. Really, it's however you feel most comfortable doing this."

They were Ravenclaws, after all. Apollo enoyed teaching, but the girl could probably figure out the notes easily on her own.

Sophie nodded then glanced down at his notes. She didn't want to take up his time or anything. " Oh...if I could just copy them then that would suit." she had her mouth open to say that she didn't want to intrude on his time, but thinking a step ahead she assumed he would be a gentleman and call it not an intrusion at all so regardless of whether or not he wanted to stay he would and on the chance that he didn't want to stay well for self conscious Sophie it was just too much.

Apollo frowned slightly and nodded. "Sure. Well... yeah, sure. I'm going to be working on a paper for another class anyway, so I'll be here if you have any questions."

He reached into his bag again and handed her a neat set of notes from the class, and then pulled out his Potions book, and parchment along with it.

Sohpia mentally stumbled a bit at the fact that he wasn't running out of the common room. Of course that was overdoing it a bit but still she was self conscious. Finally she just shook off the thought and started to peruse his notes and copy what she thought pertinent, then slowly a smile came to her face as she looked over the page, it kept appearing here and there, really she was smiling because he took notes the exact way she did, and she was a bit funny with her notes but his read completely perfectly to her.

Apollo was true to his word, and he stayed in case she had any questions. He actually kind of hoped she did have questions, but she was a Ravenclaw, so there was a slim to none chance of that happening.

He glanced over his homework once or twice, and caught her smiling and his head quirked. "Something amusing in my notes?"

She bit her lip and stifled a laugh, but then realized he was looking at her and had asked her a question. Immediately her face flooded red, "Oh I um..." she blushed furiously and stuttered, " No nothing amusing...well you see..." she bit her lip and decided that explaining verbally wasn't her forte instead she got out another set of notes that were her own and handed them to him, they took notes the same way, even used the same abbreviations for odd words. "We're very similar note takers you and I."

Apollo took her notes curiously and looked them over as she explained, and he laughed. "Well, look at that."

Apollo was shy, too. Really, what Ravenclaw wasn't? They sacrificed courage for their incredible brilliance, but he decided to take a chance anyway, and tease her.

"Either you've been watching me very closely, or this means I can start slacking off in class and just copy your notes afterwards."

She gave him an incredulous look at that, more startled than anything then her eyes narrowed slyly as she realized his teasing her, she didn't know Apollo at all so she didn't know that he was usually shy, but then a thought came to her, he didn't know just how shy she was either. What she just realized was that she could be anything she wanted to be and he wouldn't know that it wasn't her normal way. She was deciding in that moment to be bold.

"Or *I* could start slacking off and copy *your* notes." she teased in return.

Apollo couldn't help but smile at that, but it was a sly, knowing smile.

He guestured towards the notes before her. "You're already doing a wonderful job of it," he told her, trying not to laugh.

Sophie nodded, " I know." it was said in such a serious way, she was kidding of course but every once in a while her humor came through drolly and it took a deeper look at the corner of her mouth where she was trying to hide her amusement.

" I should find out what other classes you are in, you could be very useful." She wouldn't have known if indeed they took all the same classes, her nose was permanently in a book most of the time.

Apollo laughed lightly. He liked this girl. She had a much better sense of humor than he would have guessed initially.

"I'll be sure and get you a copy of my schedule. I want to be obliging, after all," he replied, though he really had no intention of doing so. She was in most of his classes, if not all, and they'd figure it out soon enough.

She smiled, " You could be a wonderful tutor after all." she said this time with a small laugh. Perhaps her nose would come up a bit to check what classes he was in, it wasn't as if he was really going to get her a schedule of his classes, but she knew she had to have had at least one with him, well obviously Arithmancy...maybe she had another one?

Apollo shrugged. "I know." There was a smile that accompanied the words, and for once, he felt as easy going as he pretended to be. She was easy to be around.

Adele was harder... she fought people away, more than anyone he knew, and he had to work very hard not to also close up around her. Sophia opened up quickly, on the other hand.

"What other classes do you take?" He asked. He had seen her in one or two, but couldn't remember which.

She had to stop to think, only to catch up with a mind that was racing too fast for her, " Arithmancy, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Herbology, Muggle Studies, Ancient Runes." she listed then blinked when she was finished, Memory was in a completely different part of her brain as she took down notes and the process she underwent to access that memory took a moment.

She smiled up at him, "You?"

Apollo nodded, considering this. "We have a couple of classes together, then. Arithmancy, Charms, Potions, Defense, Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures."

Half of his classes were with her, anyway. "Guess that means you're still going to have to take notes in half your classes," he laughed, giving her a feigned apologetic shrug.

"I don't know how I'll manage." she said with a similar smile.

She finished copying his notes in relatively easy silence and then looked up. She couldn't delay herself any longer without it looking forced or her looking very slow, but she had to admit that she was enjoying the moment.

"Thank you."

"It was my pleasure, Sophia," Apollo said, the smile easy on his face as he regarded her. Painfully shy. It was obvious in her mannerisms, but she was doing well to overcome it. He felt grateful for this, like she was doing it because of him.

"And if you ever need them again, please don't hesitate to ask."
