Lyra had caught Lani off guard in the library, and on a bad emotional day at that. Lani, despite believing the things that Lyra had told her, was not going to be beaten down.
Secure in the knowledge that boys couldn't get to the girls' dorms, and using ink that would fade the moment the girl read the note, Lani left a piece of paper attached to the 7th year girl's dorms, addressed to Lyra. She didn't really want Rystain involved in the cattyness that she was indulging.
Lyra-
I was just curious who you'd be going to the Yule Ball with. Since Rystain asked me, I wondered who would have you, if anyone.

And she sat in the 6th year dorms, smiling to herself as she waited for the fall out.

Lyra was beat after a long day of lessons and studying. She wanted to just go to bed and sleep for hours. She didn't even care about dinner, she was so exhausted. But as she reached the seventh year girls dorms she saw a note stuck to the door, addressed to her. The penmanship was too nice to be one of the boys' even if they had gotten a girl to deliver it. So she knew it must be from one of the other Slytherin girls. Maybe Sam.
She pulled the note off the door as she entered, not bothering to read it until she had dropped her things onto the floor and plopped onto the bed. She lied back with her head on her pillow and flipped the note open. Her eyes instantly narrowed as she read the words Lani had written, clearly in response to the verbal beating she had received in the library. As of this moment she did not have a date to the Yule Ball. It wasn't for more than a month and even though everyone seemed to be pairing off quite quickly, she didn't see the need. Sam had been bugging her about who she would be going with and Lyra kept blowing her off. So the fact that Lani already had a date, when Lyra did not didn't bother Lyra in the least. The part that stung was that Rystain had already asked someone, and it was not her. She crumpled the note in one fist and leapt off the bed, flung open the door and stormed down stairwell until she reached the sixth year girl's dorm.
She didn't bother to knock and instead opened the door, found Lani waiting for her with a smug little smile that Lyra wanted to slap off her face. She stared at the girl for a moment without speaking. She felt the strong urge to rip the girl's pretty blonde hair out. "You're so pathetic Lani. Do you really think that you mean anything just because he asked you?"

That was all Lani needed, really. She had set out to piss Lyra off, and had managed, though to what end? Lyra was more vindictive than she was... getting on her bad side was probably not a good idea. On the other hand, Lani had been put into Slytherin for a reason.
"Obviously special enough that it bothers you," she pointed out, a happy glint in her eye, though she was no longer smiling.

"What bothers me is your need to be obnoxious." She knew Lani was baiting her but she couldn't help expressing her feelings at the moment. The girl was beyond annoying. And relentlessly smug without reason to be.

Lani laughed, and she hoped it pissed Lyra off.
"Funny, Rystain says the same thing about you. If I'm so obnoxius, why did you comes down here?" It was a valid question to be sure. There was no reason for the girl to be here except tht she was angry, which meant Lani had done her job.

Now she was furious. Had Rystain really said that about her or was she just egging Lyra on? She couldn't be sure but either way she wasn't going to take that, not from Lani. She had come her to kick her ass and that was what she was intending on doing, especially now. She walked strongly up to Lani and slapped her as hard as she could across the face. Her hand stung as it met the girl's cheek.

Lani had been expecting that from Lyra, the girl had just made it to her before she could stand up.
"Get out," she said, all smugness gone from her face, but a clear look of victory in her eyes. She pointed to the door.

"With pleasure," she snarled as she turned herself around left the room. She would be confronting Rystain about the accusations against him. If he had really said that about her she would curse him into a thousand pieces.

Lani shouldn't have been so satisfied with how angry Lyra was, and she had a bad feeling it was going to get back to Rystain. She wasn't sure how he would handle it, but if she needed to deal with it, she would when the time came. For now, she'd let herself be happy.

(( I wonder what would happen If I dragged you both into the same room to answer to that lani.. I mean.. if I have to suffer.. then I might as well get to enjoy a cat fight, but can you both make sure to wear something sexy for the next one? ))
