Andi had a small battle trying to get the reluctant cat into his cat carrier, but she had finally succeeded. By the time Alice returned, she had moved onto her bookshelf, where she needed to be a little more selective. It didn't seem necessary to bring all of her books, because she couldn't quite accept the idea that she might not be getting back together with Ted and moving back into the apartment. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but her heart was just not ready to give up.
She was about to tell Alice that she was almost ready to go when she spotted something on the top of the bookshelf. She had set it back on the shelf where it could be easily seen, but not as easily knocked down by a certain cat who liked to think of the bookshelf as his personal jungle gym.
Seeing the little music box that Ted had given her upon his return from the 6-week long business trip was like being punched in the stomach. It was a physical pain in her heart, like something was squeezing it, and for a moment she couldn't breathe. Her hands shaking and her lower lip trembling, she picked up the music box and sank to the floor, holding it against her.
The music box, with its little carving of Andromeda and Perseus on the rock in the middle of the ocean, meant more to her than she could even describe. To her, the moment he had given her that music box was the moment she knew she was in love with him. It was a symbol of the fact that he had thought of her while he was away from her, and in her eyes, it was proof that he'd loved her. How could he have given her such a thoughtful gift, then turned around and hurt her so much?

For once Alice wasn't sure what to say, she knew that memories must be flooding Andi with each thing that was associated with Ted, it was obvious how much she loved him. She was angry with Ted for hurting her, and more confused now as ever as to the real cause if he obviously loved her too. She could tell by the way Andi was behaving that he must have to make her smile and cry in all the same moments.
She walked over to Andi and just held her cousin, letting her cry. She figured that if anyone deserved a good cry right now it was Andi. And sometimes just letting out the tears was healing for the soul. It might not change anything but it sure made you feel better afterwards to let it out. She only hoped that Ted would come to his senses before it was too late. She made a mental note to find a way to help Andi as soon as she figured out how. "It's okay to cry for him Andi, and then you'll get through this whatever lay ahead. Even if I have to drag Ted to you by the ear one day and knock some sense into the man." It was a half hearted joke as she just comforted her cousin.

Andi barely heard Alice's words. She was crying too hard, while her mind flashed back on memories of that night with him; the night he had given her the music box. She kept thinking that if she thought about the things he said, she'd find some clue, some hint that he'd been lying all along. Something that would enable her to hate him, as she had every right to do. But every word, every action, every moment was etched in her brain and in her heart, and she couldn't find a moment where his words didn't ring true, where his actions seemed false. She couldn't find the lies in his words... and she couldn't hate him. He's hurt her more than she had ever imagined was possible, and yet, she still loved him.
That was almost reason for her to hate him. But not quite.
After a while, she stopped crying, but she held on to Alice with one hand while the other still clutched the music box. She no longer wanted to move at all; she wanted to crawl back into bed and hide again. She might have even suggested it, had Agamemnon not begun howling in displeasure at being confined. But the cat's outraged cries shook her out of her spell.
Pulling away from Alice, Andi wiped her eyes. "Come on, let's get out of here. I don't think I need to bring the rest of this stuff. If we don't go now, I'm going to find an excuse to stay."

Alice nodded and pulled away from Andi, "I'll get Agamemnon. How did you want to move all these boxes to the castle?" She hoped that getting out of this appartment would be a good thing. She watched Andi set down the music box and as soon as she wasn't looking, Alice packed it into one of the boxes for Andi. She had a feeling that Andi might need it one day.

"Thank you," Andi said tiredly. She rubbed at her face, which felt raw from all the crying. "I guess... Let's just levitate the boxes right to the school. It's not a long walk from here, especially if we don't have to carry everything."
Looking around her apartment, she sighed heavily. "I hope I'll be able to come back here eventually," she said. "Or I'll come back and pack the rest of my things."
She hated leaving her apartment, especially after all the work she had put into making it feel like a home. She glanced up at the picture of the Italian girl in Rome. She knew she should bring the picture, as she needed the message of confidence it had always given her, but the truth was, she didn't feel like that girl anymore. She wasn't sure she knew how to be like her anymore. Her confidence, her very core was shaken, and she wasn't sure she'd ever find her footing again.
Shaking her head, she enchanted the boxes so that they would levitate in a line and follow behind her. "Come on, let's go."
