She nodded her head in agreement to what the woman said. It would be nice for Bellatrix to have someone to talk to who was like minded as well. And though he was a good listener, Rabastan's major flaw in being her only social buddy at Hogwarts was the fact that he was a male. Boys weren't nearly as interested in the good gossip as girls were.
She nodded again to her request, this time more slowly. Her eyes quickly ran across the room, but there was no one near enough to them to overhear without the use of an amplifying charm. "I know him quite well actually. My friends and I...well we seem to be high on his list these days." She didn't mean to sound egotistical, she only meant to imply the accessibility bestowed on her to welcoming new members. "I could speak to him on your behalf, if you'd like."

Arachne smiled at that offer, the idea of serving the Dark Lord had it's appeal. From what she'd learned on her own, he was the most powerful wizard with the right ideals that appealed to her. She would welcome serving such a great wizard, and she knew she had much to offer Him in her skills if he would accept her as his servant. She knew that through serving him she could do what she did best, and she could be part of the greater power that he was and the ideals that he required.
"I would be honored to serve if he would accept me into his fold. I have certain skills that he might find of use. The least of which is the dark arts. But if you are close to him... then I would owe you a debt if you would speak on my behalf."

It would be the least she could do, but not for Arachne. No, she would do this for her master, for the cause to be furthered. And on some level she hoped that by bringing new members she would further show her devotion to Lord Voldemort and he would respond kindly to her. But Bellatrix did wonder what certain skills Arachne spoke of, and would she need to find out before she presented her to Voldemort. Would it be something Bellatrix needed to best her in, to stay number one? She decided it was, without knowing what Arachne was speaking of. "And what, besides your quick hand at the Killing Curse, could you offer?"

Arachne watched Bellatrix closely as she responded. She wasn't out to challenge Bellatrix, she had no reason to and she genuinely found she liked the woman. The fact that she thought she was superior in skills if not in favor, was the least of that. But Arachne wasn't about to share all her secrets with the woman. There was no necessity in admiting all her secrets to anyone but the Dark Lord himself. It was the thought that she likely should share one of her skills though, with Bellatrix if it meant she might be seen as a valuable asset, yet not a threat. And she had no intention of telling her that she was one of the unspeakables. After all she was still undercover to find out about Bellatrix to her boss, and she wasn't ready to jeopardize that.
"Let us say that I am a good spy. And as an occlumens I can keep my secrets from Dumbledore or any other Legilimens that might try." It was the least of her skills, the ability to block a mind reader like herself. It was a skill that was useful for keeping the dark lord's plans from getting into the wrong hands at the very least.

Occlumency. Bellatrix couldn't compete with that, and she wondered how long it took the woman to learn such a complex skill. But perhaps the fact that she could keep secrets, not only from enemies but from her future master as well, would keep her lower on the proverbial totem pole than Bellatrix. "Well, with skills like that I'm sure there will be no reason why He wouldn't adore you. I'll speak to him at our next meeting." She hoped it would be a private meeting.

Arachne smiled and bowed her head to the woman in silent thanks before changing the subject. She didn't want to delve any further into that subject and she looked around again just to make sure they still had privacy. She drank from her cup before saying, "So who else is interesting in the castle? I'm still learning my way around it, but it never hurts to hear the good gossip."

Bellatrix sighed exasperatedly. "Merlin, nothing. I'm having the worst time there. Thank heaven you've arrived and I'll finally have someone my own age to talk to. Everyone there seems so absorbed in their own little dramas."

"No matter what school it is, some things never change. Children to concerned with their own petty problems and unaware of the greater causes around them. Too busy looking ahead to see what's behind them. I've actually been interested in those four champions though, some of them seem very unlikely selections." She'd been told to watch them, actually. But that was beside the point, by the fact that the department of mysteries had some reason to watch them was good enough reason to interested in them in her own right. What she was still trying to figure out is why they would be interested in Bellatrix. They had no interest in the dark arts, so what was it about Bella that they would want to know? Or was there more to this assignment than Mr Rookwood had told her.

"Yes, I agree. That Samantha Montgomery, I don't like her. There's something off about her and to be honest I don't know why she was chosen as Slytherin Champion." She disliked Samantha because the girl was only fifteen and received as much attention from the opposite sex as she did. Which meant in a few years she would be prettier than Bellatrix. And by then Bellatrix would be an old married woman and Rodolphus would probably have her pregnant with his second child. The whole thing depressed her, and she didn't like that feeling. So essentially, Sam made her depressed.

"Yes I don't know much about her yet but I intend to find out. And then there's those other fifth years, Maxi and ..what's her name.. the clumsy one. I don't understand why the cup would have picked three fifth years and only one seventh. It doesn't make any sense. Which makes me wonder if that Gryffindor girl is being helped somehow." She didn't know enough about the Samantha girl to be interested for more than the fact that she seemed an odd choice for a transfer student of one week and a fifth year when there were other seventh year slytherins who put their name in.

"Do you think the Cup was tampered with somehow?" Bellatrix really hadn't thought of that. She really hadn't given the tournament much thought at all. It didn't concern her mission for the Dark Lord and so she never bothered to pay close attention. She barely clapped when the Champions' names were being read to the school. Of course, that day she had been preoccupied with her sister and the plan to ruin her relationship with the Auror. But now that Arachne mentioned it, it was quite odd that Alice had such an unfair advantage.

"I think it would take someone with quite a bit of skill to tamper it's results like that, but yes I have my suspicions that someone wants Alice to have an advantage. The question is who and why?" And why was the Department of Mysteries so interested in them as well. Was there a connection? Was it something about Alice she should be looking for or was it the other three who offered something. She wanted to know what the connection was but she had a feeling that her assignment was to find out just that. She was one of the few who knew what lay behind the walls of the department, the things they studied. And she wondered if there was something each possessed that might be learned from, or just one.

That would definitely be something she needed to think over. Who would want Alice to win so much that they would cheat? Who was capable of such a deed? The first name that popped into her head was Andromeda's. "My sister would definitely have the skill, she wants to be an Auror. And Alice is family..." She was talking to herself, not actually to Arachne. And though her voice was quieter than usual she was still audible.

"Andromeda? I wouldn't rule anyone out.. I just wonder why someone would want her to have the best chance to win. What is in it for them if she does win?" And if it was Andromeda, whom she hadn't met.. why would the woman want Alice to win? and would she be the type to cheat to get it?

"Hmmm...No. I don't really see Andromeda doing something like that. I was just thinking outloud. She's not the craftiest of people. She's too...goody goody. You really shouldn't waste your time with meeting her. She's nothing." Bellatrix sneered, but it was soon replaced with a look of confusion. Arachne's interest in this made her own interest grow. She might actually have to look in on this, since her own mission was not producing anything viable. Of course, that was the main reason she should focus all of her energies on her own mission. She shouldn't even be wasting time here with Arachne. She should be researching Rori. But as she took another drink she decided she was being silly. Her master, her love, would certainly grant her a single night of fun, wouldn't he? Would he?

Arachne downed the rest of her drink before speaking again. "Well perhaps I can help you look after those boys you mentioned and you can help me look after those champions. We could be of mutual benefit. Besides, I happen to enjoy talking to you now that I don't have to pretend to be dull. And of all things I'm looking forward to having dinner with your fiance and his brother as well." She knew they should be leaving soon. It was getting late and although she herself was nocturnal, she doubted Bellatrix was.

"Sounds like a plan. You have no idea how relieving it is to have one less person I have to keep my guard up against." She would still have some sort of guard, even now knowing Arachne's true colors. She couldn't chance it, it was just too risky. But not having to pretend she fit in with the Hogwarts staff was comforting. "I'll speak with Rodolphus about arranging dinner. And I'll also speak to my Lord, about you." She too finished her drink and then she stood, preparing to leave. There would still be the walk back to the castle, if there was anything left unsaid.

Arachne stood up as soon as Bellatrix did and gave a genuine smile, "Shall we? I fear a bunch of grubby children are all that awaits us, but I suppose we should get back anyways. Maybe I can hide in my room until I have to go down to potions in the morning. Have you heard about his little Slug Club he's doing? Is that something he's always done or is it new?" She was still trying to assess Professor Slughorn, but he seemed to just want to meddle in affairs of peoples lives with no real direction other than trying to create success for himself and for others to climb their little social ladder with himself as the connecting force. It was quite annoying if she were to be honest.

Bellatrix laughed, humored by Arachne's dislike of the Slug Club. It was a rather unattractive name, despite being named after it's founder. "Oh he's been doing that for years. And I must say, as silly as I thought it was while I was there, he has made quite a few good connections in his time. Knows a lot of people in the Ministry. You know, the good people with power, not the parchment pushers." They left the pub and headed up the High Street, the castle already in view as it was so massive. It was quite pretty all lit up against the pitch black night. A wolf howled just then, as if adding to the scene Bellatrix admired.

"So it's not all pretense then.. he really does like to make acquaintances of the best families and skills for the sake of being the social networking third party then. Such an odd man, but I can't see fault in trying to associate with the best families or those in power. But really, slug club? of all things. Surely he could have though up a more original and less ridiculous name. I heard he invited all four of the champions though." She strode casually beside the woman, feeling an easy camaraderie. The castle loomed closer and she was looking forward to resting tonight actually the more she thought of it.
