WHile Augustus had asked his intern to be the one going undercover, he was too, in a way. Though, quite honestly, every day was a day undercover. It was amazing what people would tell you when they thought they could trust you.
He was shown to a temporary room that would be his while he was a judge, and while it was too far from his intern's room, he would have to deal with it.
He waited until most of the teachers were gone, in class, or wherever else they may be. He made his way to hers, wrapping on her door quietly.

Arachne had been changing into her night clothes when the door sounded. She gave it a silent glare, "just a minute." She had a feeling who it was at this time of night it could only be one person. She grabbed a black thin night robe from the wall and put it around herself. She would have grabbed a thicker one but she hadn't unpacked all her bags yet. She hadn't been expecting him. She walked to the door and opened it slowly, when she noticed that it was indeed Mr. Rookwood she opened the door to admit him. "come in" she said softly. She waited until he passed before quickly looking out the hall without being obvious and closed the door firmly.
"I wasn't expecting you to come tonight," she spoke quietly but she was not embarrassed. "have a seat" she said indicating the small table and chairs in the room.

Augustus cast a subtle but quick look around before he entered her room. The last thing he needed were those rumors flying.
"Thank you, Ms. Weaver," he said, taking the seat she indicated. He paid no attention to her clothing. "I had heard you were arriving today. I just came to see how you were settling in."
He hadn't spoken with her for a couple of days, since he had been busy at the office, getting things as in order as he could for Fiona, and then arriving at the school today as well.
He was lying, however, when he said that was his only reason for stopping by. He expected that she would know this.

Arachne nodded respectfully giving no indication that she could see through his flimsy reason for stopping by. "Of course Mr. Rookwood, and as you can see I was just settling in for the evening. I had not expected to hear from you until tomorrow at the earliest. But I'm sure you have other things to discuss than how quickly I can unpack a few bags?" She raised an eyebrow but not in defiance, more in question. She was considered fairly intelligent, and didn't need to rely on her occlumency or divination abilities to know that her boss would not just stop by to be social. He was always business, or at least he had always been before and she saw no reason that tonight would not be the same.

Augustus smiled slowly. He would have been disappointed had she not caught on.
"Yes, in fact, I do have other things to discuss." It was late, and another boss might have waited. In fact, he was slightly annoyed that she mentioned not expecting him until tomorrow, but he didn't let on to it. And, like every Unspeakable in the Department, he knew how to block an Occulemens from his mind. A person carrying around a many secrets as they did could not risk losing it to someone who posessed that particular skill.
"When is your first class?" He asked, taking his time.

Arachne grinned. She actually enjoyed her own little secrets as well, when she'd been accepted into the department she had been tested for occlumency among other things. But she had a particularly rare talent that was little known if at all even among wizards. Her skills as a seerer in divination were only part of that which he knew, but she had never divulged her ability to see auras, images around people which gave clues to their futures even though she was not always able to interpret them they always managed to come true.
It was part of her reason for joining to become one of the unspeakables... to learn more about time itself and divination, the fact that she could never change those things from happening no matter how she tried to change the future her visions never failed to come true. But surely with the right knowledge she could find a way to change that last part.
"I'll begin potions I believe at the beginning of this week, once the Champion Selection Ceremony is completed." Although she hadn't expected him until tomorrow she had not been dissapointed to hear from him sooner. The sooner the better, so that she could find out what exactly her purpose here, besides what he'd already told her in his office a few days ago. She did not rush the conversation, she was patient as a spider like always.
She walked over finally and sat down across from him gracefully. She made no move to show any emotion she might have had or reflect her thoughts. Quite the opposite, she smiled warmly.

"The ceremony is tonight," Augustus said languidly, though in the next moment, he seemed to catch himself and he was all business again. "It may be wise of you to miss it, only because none of the students know you yet."
He shifted in his seat, his back straight and chin slightly up. "I just wanted to reiterate the guidelines of the assignment, Ms. Weaver. I am aware that it's a simple assignment and will likely bore you... but it is out of the office and requires little paperwork."
He gave her a look as if to say that he honestly wasn't concerned if she was bored. Yes, he wanted those under him happy because they needed to be loyal to the job. But he wanted them to work.

Ara didn't give any indication of what she was thinking, though her eyes narrowed slightly. She was listening intently to make sure that she didnt' miss a beat, she may not like children, but she loved her job. And if she got bored, there were other things she could find to occupy her time that wouldn't get in the way of her assignment. She just had to explore and find herself a little challange to keep herself busy.
She saw his little slip before he caught himself and she smiled inwardly. Indeed this man may be all business and smooth on the outside but he didn't get into his position without secrets of his own, without skills that she found intresting in others. There was definatly more to her boss than the surface, layers of him she wanted to peal away if for no other reason than to put together a few peices to a puzzle. She loved puzzles and he was one she was certain. But for now she just calmly waited for him to go over her assignment. "Of course. If you require I will stay here for the evening unless you had other plans while everyone is occupied for me to do?"

"I have nothing for you," Augustus said. "I would just prefer that you remain as unseen as possible before tomorrow. But everyone will be at the ceremony soon... you can feel free to leave your room. The assignment does not call for your imprisonment." He gave her a small, half felt smile at this.
"Other than that, I needed to remind you that you are to ask as though you don't know me." The rest of what he really wanted her for, even he had to be vague about, since they were more Death Eater related than Ministry related. "You may want to get close to Bellatrix Black. Like you, she is a teaching assistant. Make friends with her, if you can. At least for the first few days, I would like you to report back to me... on anything you see worthy of telling me, or anything you know I'd want to hear." This last part was just to make sure she checked in with him on occassion.

Arachne didn't know who Bellatrix was but she would find out easily enough. One of the advantages of not being from around here, is that few knew her at all and she could be anyone she wanted to be without having to change perceptions. But what could this girl have to do with them? She didn't voice her question openly however. She knew that he would tell if he had intended for her to know, but he hadn't and so she didn't ask. There was no point in asking questions that he wouldn't give her answers to anyways. But nevertheless, this would be a puzzle to. She would find out who she was quickly enough. She vaguely wondered how skilled the girl might be in blocking an occlumen.. "Are there any others I'm supposed to delve into?" She indicated the normal ways of finding out information, but she also meant through other means. Being that he at least knew about the one, she would also use others to get him whatever she thought he might be interested in. Maybe if she was lucky something really interesting that he hadn't expected or something he wanted.
She was happy for one thing.. spying was easy and not near as boring as paperwork. She liked this kind of work even more than she had the rest. A shame her boss was good at blocking her off, she would have loved to delve into his mind sometime. Such a pitty, she almost darkly wished she'd find something more sinister on the inside that was not shown on his all business exterior. Surely being head of the unspeakables you had dirty little secrets to hide too.
"And how would you prefer me to report back to you when I find something, Mr. Rookwood?"

Did he want her to delve into any others? He considered this, and then nodded slowly. "Yes... keep an eye on the house champions, and get inside their heads, if you will." And the teachers... but he couldn't ask that of her without raising suspicions. "The champions and Bellatrix Black. And if anyone else catches your eye... well, I trust you judgement." He would soon find out if it was misplaced trust.
"I will come to you when I want reports," he said, a little icily. "Just make sure you have a way to remember everything of importance, as I will likely not be calling on you every day."
He wished he could give her a much clearer mission, but spying and learning should be enough for her, or at least enough to satisfy her since she had been stuck doing a lot of paperwork.

A slow preditorial smile emerged on her face then and an odd darkness crept into her eyes. Indeed... a spying mission she thought. This was something she could definatly do, and she would do anything to keep that assignment and her cover under tight security. She vaguely wondered about who the champions might be but she would find out soon enough tomorrow after they'd been announced, and she would be watching where they least expected her. She had one other secret that she'd never disclosed, she was an unregistered animagus and it was amazing the places one could go if you were a spider. Indeed this was an assignment she would enjoy.
Her first thought was to get to know the four students who would be named in the ceremony, and meet Bellatrix Black, of course. Though she would be keeping her eyes and ears out for anything else she could learn that might be of.. interest. Though she wondered what qualified for being 'of interest' to her task.
"I will do that and more, Mr. Rookwood. And I am looking forward to it." Indeed she would and indeed she did.

"As am I," Augustus said, his voice low, something in his tone that wasn't quite readable. He had that talent... even to the most skilled Occulmens, he was a closed book, bound and locked to any reader. He had more secrets than most, and he had trained probably as hard as she had... only he had trained to keep people like her out of his head.
"Get some sleep. I am sorry that I am asking you to miss the ceremony, but somehow, I think you'll survive and thrive. Do you have any further questions?"

Arachne's eyes turned a smokey blue as she already began thinking ahead of her assignment. She had a feeling she knew what he needed to know.. but only time would tell. She'd befriend Bellatrix and anyone else who seemed close to her as well as the four champions.
"No, I can't think of anything to ask right now. I need to watch them to find out how best to befriend them I think. They'll never see me coming." She spoke the last of that softly dangerously almost. She had been given her prey and even though she was only spying on them.. the best way to find out more was to befriend them and get so close that they never suspect you. She knew she'd have to play several roles to get what she wanted but it was something she thought she could easily do. And she was going to enjoy the hunt, and they would come like flies to a spider if she had her way.

Augustus nodded. "Just observe, Ms. Weaver," he told her. "Get inside their heads, yes, but only observe from there."
She would have been a Slytherin for sure, had she been a student at Hogwarts, and it was something that he regretted he needed to remind himself of. It could be an interesting stay here at Hogwarts.
"If you have no questions, then, I will leave you to finish your unpacking. They'll be expecting me at the ceremony soon."

"Of course" She said in answer to both his comments. She had no other questions, at least none he'd answer anyways and stood walking towards the door to let him out. She opened the door and unconsciously looking around to make sure no one was in sight to see him leaving she smiled. "Enjoy your ceremony, Mr. Rookwood." Her gaze traveled over him, he was quite good looking... too bad he was her boss she thought offhandedly as she watched him get up to leave.

His eyes had glanced the hallway as well before he stepped out. He gave her a little nod.
"Enjoy your evening as well, Ms. Weaver. I'll be checking in on you."
With that, he said no more to her and turned down the hall to make his entrance at the Champion selection ceremony.
He'd keep an eye on that one for sure... there was something unsettling about her, and he couldn't tell if he liked it or not.

Arachne watched him leave her eyes half narrowing as he retreated. There was something about him she just couldn't quite place and it irked her to not be able to see into his mind and see what it was that belied his outward smooth, casual smile when he wasn't looking stern and business-like. She just couldn't place her finger on it yet, even for an unspeakable.. and the department head of the unspeakables there was something about him that didn't seem to fit with her.
She closed the door behind him when he was out of view, looking down at her black nightgown and thin robe. It hadn't left too much to the imagination she realized though nothing showed through, it had hugged her curves. She magically locked her door and pulled out her divination ball. She might as well try to get a feel for what to expect in the comming days.
As she did so, several images appeared before her like whisps of smoke within the ball. She saw death, though it was not her own and grinned at that. She wondered who would be dying but couldn't think of any reason to have to kill anyone here so she half dismissed it. In only a moment later she saw another image.. a man's eyes, and she knew with an almost certain insight that something interesting would be discovered when she found the keeper of those eyes. A slow smile spread across her face at the thought and wondered what would be of interest to her who had eyes like that, they were the eyes of a seductive sinner and she was facinated at what secrets they held. Interesting indeed, she thought. Then she saw something else... a woman with dark hair holding her hand out in help. Who in the world would want to help her? Arachne never needed help, she'd always been alone in her own world... since when would she be able to find enough in someone to want their help? She frowned at this, she certainly would never trust anyone and she was not believing what she saw. Impossible.
She stood up from the table and pushed the ball away with disgust. A friend? since when did Arachne ever want anything to do with a friend? Aquantances could be used and manipulated, but what on earth would Arachne need with ..a friend? It was absurd. She didn't sleep on her bed that night though, she didn't want to think and longed for the feel of spinning a web, something mindless and instinctual... and so she transformed into her spider form only slightly larger than a normal spider. Then she slowly and meticulously began to spin a web in the corner of her room until she finished and slept there patiently mindless until the morning.
