Nate walked into the common room shortly after the dinner ceremony that had announced Alice Prewett as their new house champion for the tournament. There was a loud buzz in the air of excitement and the room was already filling up with students. As with most houses he was sure there was a miniture celebration already begining in the Gryffindor house.
He looked around for Rayne without thinking. He wasn't sure if she was already there or not as he scanned the familiiar faces already there. Everyone seemed to be talking about the tournament in some form or fashion as they waited for Alice to be allowed to return to the commons so they could cheer her on. Nate was happy that she had been selected, they had a good chance of winning with her and the extra house points that would be a reward would be great to help out the house.

Rayne had been swept up in a group of Gryffindors coming back from the ceremony, and they were all buzzing and chattering. A few were commenting on the fact that they were all girls, the champions. Most were thrilled that it was Alice for their house, and only a few looked downtrodden that they had not been chosen. It felt like the whole house was in the common room already, and Rayne already wanted to escape.
She spotted Nate by accident, and made her way over to him. "Hey," she said, when she had freed herself from the main group of students. "Everyone's so excited."

He gave a look of relief to find her though he didn't realize he was doing it. But he was happy that she'd found him. It was the simple things sometimes that he noticed the most, and the fact that she had actually approached him made him want to smile and he did.
"Yeah I know, I wanted to congratulate her but I haven't seen her here yet. The judges must have kept the champions for a while. I think she have a good chance to win with Alice for Gryffindor though. She's pretty good and knows her stuff. What about you though, what do you think the first task might be? do you think it will be dangerous as they say?"

She shrugged. "Maybe. But I doubt it," she added quickly. "Dumbledore wouldn't put any of his students in that much danger. But I don't expect it will be exactly safe, either."
His smile was a little infectuous. He looked like such a little boy when he smiled and it was hard not to return it. He was one of the few people who could brighten Rayne's mood just by smiling. It usually took a lot more work than that.
"I think Alice has a really good shot at winning this. Which would be great... we could use the points."

Nate nodded. "Yeah could you imagine getting 500 points? We would have a good chance of getting the house cup this year!" He was especially keen on this since he'd managed to loose them points on occasion for being late to a few classes this year or not paying attention in class. It's not that he was a bad student exactly, but lately he'd been distracted by Rayne in those classes. He really hoped that Alice would win.

Sin entered the common room to see a party well underway. He looked for Alice to congradulate her but didn't see her so he walked over to grab some pumpkin juice from a table. He looked around to see what trouble he could cause tonight at least until something more interesting came along or Alice showed up. He noticed Frank was absent too and wondered if he'd stayed behind with her or had already gone to bed. But he assumed the guy was likely out with Alice considering how close they'd been at dinner.
He noticed Nate and Rayne talking and walked over to join the conversation. "Hey guys"

"Yes, it would take the other houses a while to catch up at least. And it would make up for the points I keep losing us," she said. Her mouth had lost Gryffindor too many points, but Voltair had been the worst, taking 50 from her. That was a class she wouldn't mind forgetting.
She hugged herself when Sin joined them, and she couldn't help but take notice of those blue eyes. She always noticed people's eyes. Nate's were a welcoming, gentle brown. Sin's were intense and icey enough to make you tingle.
"Hi," she replied back to him, moving to the side just a little to give him room in their conversation.

Nate nodded as Sin approached them. Sin was very outgoing and Nate liked him. It was hard for anyone to not like Sin.. except maybe if you were a Professor. Professors didn't ever seem to keen on Sin for his trouble making. "Hey Sin, we were just talking about Rayne needing Alice to win back some house points for us." He winked at Rayne with another good natured tease at her expense. He just could never help himself from teasing her, he didn't even mind when her temper flaired up at him he just thought she looked even more cute and made him want to tease her more.
He was about to say something else when he saw someone else walk up to their little group...

Gwen strode over, seeing them start to congregate, and figured it was as good a place as any to join the celebration. Alice was in her year, and she knew the girl had a great chance at winning the tournament. The cup had chosen well for their house.
"I see this is where the party's starting," she said, smiling at the three of them.

"Hey Gwen," he greated the older girl as she approached he scooted closer to Rayne and gave Gwen some space to stand between himself and Sin. "So what did you think of the ceremony?"

Sin smiled at Gwen as she joined their little group, his blue eyes watching her. He didn't speak since Nate had just asked her a question. He took a quick moment to scan the other students in the room, yep the party so far seemed to be over here.. everyone one else was still mingling slowly and only beginning to form into little social groups.

Gwen didn't hesitate too long to think on his question. She shifted her weight to one leg, bending the knee of the other. "It was a little unnecessarily long," she admitted, "But then I suppose a little aticipation never hurt anyone." Her smile was big, genuine, ever present.
"But if you mean what do I think of Alice as our champion? I don't think she's got a lot of competition... she's good for Gryffindor."

"Yeah but what about that transfer slytherin girl that got chosen? I don't trust her one bit she seems so.. fake. I wouldnt' put it past her to find some way to cheat." Sin didn't like that girl and was one of the few guys who didn't think she was good looking. She was too fake and put on and that made her unattractive in his eyes. And he'd seen how sure she was of herself too, practically expecting to be chosen and he'd also noticed tension between her and Alice in classes. He wouldn't put it past that girl to do something unsavory to try to win at all costs.. just like a Slytherin, he thought.

Gwen laughed at this, giving Sin a once over. "Wow, tell us how you really feel. You shouldn't keep it all bottled up."
Actually responding to his comments, she shrugged. "I think Alice is talented and strong enough that even if someone cheats, she'll still do all right."

Rayne nodded, silently agreeing that Alice was a good choice for their house. There was still a strange feeling in her stomach that said she would have liked to see Nate chosen, though.
"Did either or you enter your names?" Rayne asked. She was always curious to see if she coul figure out the goblet's logic. "I'm sure every Slytherin that could put their name in did, and it chose a brand new fifth year. It's odd."

"Of course you know I did, but even I know that Alice is better at magic than me." And if it was reckless and possibly dangerous, there was no doubt he'd put his name in. Not that he had a death wish, but he enjoyed the rush of adrenaline that came with thinking on his feet and sometimes the line between courage and reckless behavior was blurred for Sin. He was an adrenaline junkie if ever there was one.

Gwn smiled at Sin's answer before she nodded. "I did, too. I think the Goblet was being a little sexist this year, though," she added, nudging Sin slightly.
It was odd that all four of the champions were girls, but maybe it was a theme? Who knew, next year, it might be all boys. That still didn't do her any good, but she'd be there to cheer on Alice this year.

"Yeah it probably was, makes you wonder if it was hoodwinked somehow. It's odd that the Goblet picked three 5th years over some of the 6th and 7th years who put their names in. It seems really odd if you ask me." He was sure there was something going on with the names that had been selected, but he couldn't grasp why it would select the Ravenclaw and Slytherin girls that it had chosen, the only ones he hadn't doubted were genuine selections were Alice and Maxi.

"Just imagine what it will come up with the next time Dumbledore hosts a tournament. Maybe it will end up being muggleborns only or something." Wouldn't her parents hate that? Sometimes, she was proud of her brother and herself for not ending up in Slytherin.
"But let's save the speculation until we can have Alice's input."

"Speaking of which where is she? Shouldn't Alice be here by now? This whole party is supposed to be for her after all." He looked around for Alice... and Bek too, but didn't see either here yet. Maybe Bek had decided to go talk to her friend Maxi or something instead of coming to the commons. But where was Alice? Surely her and Frank would be here by now.
