Ross moved his hand to her cheek. Everything that he never said was said now. It was perfect and for a moment Danny didn't pull away. He was relieved to say the least.
However, Danny did finally pulled away. Ross left his hand on her cheek for a moment before letting it drop. "You wanted to know my reason behind my actions last night. Now you do. Everything I never told you, I said then. Why I was angry with myself last night was just revealed right there. So now you know." Ross' voice cracked while he spoke. It did lift a little weight off his shoulders that he finally let her know, but there was still some there.

"Ross," she said again, sighing deeply. She wished he had kissed any other girl but her.
She bit her lip, then shook her head. "No, Ross. Damn it."
Why hadn't he stopped the dance earlier last night? If he had stepped in, and then done this, maybe... maybe things could be different. But he hadn't. He had let her stay and fall head over heels for someone she barely knew... and that meant she had to let her best friend down.
"You're... too late," She said quietly, looking back at him, her eyes as gentle as possible.

Ross knew that he made a mistake in kissing her, but he couldn't tell her verbally. He just couldn't. Her reaction made him even more angry with himself. He should have been able to do something earlier, but he was too scared. This was stupid. Ross should have never done anything. Sure, Danny would have been mad at him, but maybe it was better off that she would have been, rather than this.
"Don't you think I know that," he said looking away. He could feel the anger in himself building again. "I know that I'm late, but you asked! You wanted to know, and now you wish you didn't. You understand why I'm angry with myself because of it?" Ross tilted his head to look back up at her for a moment. He knew that the guy from last night made her happy and that was what killed him.

She wanted to be angry at him now. He really had no right to do this to her, and now he was making her feel guilty.
"You let me dance with him!" She didn't realize that she was admitting to Ross exactly why it was too late. "You could have stopped it any time, but you were at that stupid bar just drinking! You have had me to yourself most of the time I've known you! I never had that many relationships because I didn't need them. You, as my best friend, gave me everything I'd look for in a relationship anyway, and you waited too long! I wasn't going to wait forever, Ross."
She had pulled back further and was now standing. As she yelled at him, she could feel the prick of tears in her eyes. Why did he have to admit this now?

"He asked! I wasn't going to come inbetween you two Danny! You looked so happy! I couldn't break that up. I didn't have the heart to. I've always wanted you to be happy, and if that made me hurt because of it, I was going to let you do it anyway!" Ross shifted his glance to the floor. "And I was drinking because I was trying to rid the image of you two together! Obviously it didn't work. I know that I could have told you sooner, but it took me awhile to figure it out! I was scared to tell you Danny! Scared! I was scared that you would look at me differently and our friendship would have been ruined! I was scared that you would have hated me afterwords! I couldn't have handled you looking at me differently. I would have killed me for sure!"
He knocked over a lamp that was nearby. "I'm not asking you to wait for me. Just go and be happy Danny. That's all I ever wanted was for you to be happy."

Danny sank back down to sit on the couch, her elbows on her knees and her head in her hands. She just shook her head as he spoke. She didn't know what to do. It was Ross. She loved him. She always had, and maybe not in that way, but she could have been with him if that's what he wanted. But now it was too late. She did find someone.
"I would choose you over anyone if it came down to it," Danny said softly. "And you're not asking me to. That makes this hard."

Ross shook his head. "I can't ask that of you. I don't have the heart to. You look at that guy the way I wished you would have looked at me. I couldn't let you ruin something that could turn out great."
As much as Ross wished that he could ask Danny to leave what's-his-face, he couldn't do that. He would prefer to sarifice his own happiness so that Danny would be happy. Even if he was angry at himself, he couldn't let her suffer.
"Please, just forget about what happened. Just forget okay? That would be the best thing."

"I can't forget about this, Ross," Danny said softly. She wished he had done this to another girl so that she could be proud of him, instead of so angry and torn now. But Edmund was so kind, and... well, he hadn't been so afraid to ask her. Ross, in his fear, had lost her.
"I don't want this to change us. I still want us to be Ross and Danny," she said, finally looking back up at him. "But I don't know if that's possible."
That kiss changed everything, and she hated it. "I know you said you can't, but... Ask me to choose you, Ross, and I would."
But Ross would also know that the simple act of asking her would ruin her for him. She would do anything for him, and with any guy but Ross, that might have been her downfall.

"I don't think that things will be the same," he said shaking his head. "I honestly don't. And you have to try to forget about this. Try. It might be easier than you think." It took something like this to realize his true feelings for Danny? He should have figured them out earlier and things would have been alright, and he shouldn't have been scared.
In a way, he knew that Danny would be with him if he asked, but he couldn't. He didn't have the heart to. Ross wanted her to come to him on her own accord, not because he asked. He ran a hand over his short hair.
"You're boyfriend might be waiting on you. Wouldn't want him to think you're up to something." His voice was sad, but Ross tried to cover it the best he could.

"Edmund's not my boyfriend," She said, glancing up. He wasn't. Well, not yet. But they were meeting up again today, and she liked him enough that she wouldn't mind if he was her boyfriend. And it was different with Ross... she loved Ross deeply, and she had a crush on him when they were both in Hogwarts. She never had to push it, though. They always acted like a couple even if they were not. They went to all the dances together, she always spent her Hogsmeade weekends with him...
And when they graduated, they didn't see each other as much, and her crush on him faded, leaving a solid friendship behind that she cherished. But that didn't mean she would have said no, any time except now, had he asked her or kissed her.
She didn't know what to say, so she stood up, licking her lips and wishing she hadn't because she tasted Ross. "We're okay, Ross," she said quietly.

Everything was drawn down this. Things had changed between him and Danny and it wasn't one of the changes that he was hoping for. He didn't really expect her to just forget about Edmund, or whatever his name was, and side with him.
Although, Ross didn't regret kissing her. He had needed to do it, for his sanity at least. Even though she was leaving, he didn't regret it. At least he knew now that he admitted his feelings towards her. Maybe now that they were out in the open, he would feel better, although he knew that that was near impossible.
Ross didn't know what to say, but just nodded. What was he supposed to have said. "I guess I'll see you around sometime," he said not looking up.

That broke Danny's heart. Those words we never good, not when spoken after something like this, and she wondered if they would see each other around, then.
No. She wasn't going to let this break them. "Ross," she said his name quietly, though she wanted him to look at her. "Meet me tomorrow. Somewhere. You pick the place." She just had to be sure that they would stay friends. Ross wasn't going to want to see her all that much, she knew, not for a while. But she wasn't going to let that happen.
Ross didn't know how much she needed him, really.

Ross looked up and met her gaze. He wasn't sure if he wanted to meet her tomorrow or not. What would her 'boyfriend' or whatever he was think? Ross pushed that out of his mind, he shouldn't care about that.
He knew that things would never be the same between him and Danny, but he guessed he could meet her tomorrow. He had the day off, just like today. Ross didn't really see a problem with meeting her somewhere, although he knew that things could be slightly awkward.
"Okay," he said agreeing. "I say we meet at place we usually get tea all the time, well used to. Madam Puddifoot's. A nice cup of tea would be good to have. Are you free about 11 in the morning?"

Danielle had been holding her breath, waiting for him to answer her, and she honetly thought he was going to say no. It had been a relief when he said yes, and even gave her the place and time.
"I have to go into work around 1, so 11 would be fine," she said with a nod. She needed them to be okay. She didn't know how to do anything without Ross.
"You know I still love you, Ross."

Ross nodded. Maybe tomorrow would be alright and not as awkward as he thought. "I'll see you then."
He didn't want Danny to leave. He wanted her to stay here and talk or something. However, Ross didn't say a word about that. He was going to let her do her own thing.
"I love you too Danny. I always will." Ross meant that in two ways. In friendship and in the sense of more than friends. His eyes didn't leave her. "Be careful."

She wanted him to ask her to stay, and Merlin knew she would. As it stood, she thought he wanted her gone, and it was probably for the better. She did have someone to meet.
Nodding, she bent down and kissed his cheek. "Tomorrow, then." She was hesitating, as if leavng his apartment would end them for sure.
Instead, she smiled and winked. "And you're welcome for the clean apartment."

Ross stood up from the couch as he took Danny's hand as she kissed his cheek. His eyes showed that he didn't want her to leave, but he knew that she had to. He leaned in and kissed her cheek. It wasn't just a quick peck on the cheek, it lasted about two to three seconds longer.
He offered her the best smile that he could. "Thank you. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

"I am too," Danny said, stepping towards the door. She had to get out. She would go see Edmund and she'd feel better. She would feel like less of a b*tch than she did right now, and he'd remind her why she told Ross no in the first place.
Ross was her best friend. That's how it was supposed to be, and they'd find a way to keep it like that.
"Okay. Have a good afternoon, okay, Ross?" She said, opening the door and giving him a feeble smile before she left and closed the door behind her.

"You too Danny," he offered a smile that faded as she left the room. He let her go, but he let her go with telling her everything. Of course, Ross knew that they wouldn't work out the way he hoped, but still, she knew. In a way, he felt that there was a heavy weight lifted off his shoulders as he sunk back down into his couch.
The picture of him and Danny was still face down, and he reached over and sat it up straight as he fixed the lap he just broke. He was going to have to go take a cold shower and attempt to get himself cleaned up.
