"Actually Ms. Newbury I apologize for not being forthright with you. I do not date much at all. Most of my time is given to my studies." he said but did a valient job of not squirming. Damn Samantha. Damn damn damn her.

She watched him eagerly, noting his use of formality with her now. "That's a shame. You really should. You're quite cute you know." The edge of her lip curled into a half smile. "And besides, it's not good to spend all your time reading and writing. You need to experience life." She let her words lengthen as she spoke them, emphasizing the word experience. She was certainly full of experience when it came to the opposite sex. Perhaps she could teach the professor a thing or two.

"Forgive me Ms. Newbury, but my life is fine the way it is." a student instructing a teacher on how to live? He shook his head inwardly living wasn't exactly what he imagined Lyra had in mind.

"Transfiguration, Dark A... oh wait they call it Defense Against Dark Arts here right? I keep forgetting they don't teach all the same classes here. And Charms, Potions, Astronomy.. And I was allowed to join late for the Quidditch team here, since the Ravenclaw keeper was injured by a rogue bludger I was told." He shrugged as if confident it would not happen to him or if it did he'd survive it and be back to play the next practice.
He pulled some of his books he'd just recently bought at Flourish & Blotts earlier and put them into the cauldron with the flasks.

"Sorry Professor," she said submissively while looking downward, ashamed...seemingly. "I didn't mean anything rude by it." She peeked up at him, though keeping her head faced toward the ground. She was getting to him, and she hide her smile.

Sam nodded along, " We have a few classes together then." she said sounding happy about it, she left her things with her brother so she didn't have quite as much to shuffle around even though her cauldron was getting heavy. "Things are a bit different here aren't they?" she asked in reference to his class list and almost saying Dark arts instead of defense, she knew how he felt really having transfered herself. She shrugged, " I'm sure the Ravenclaw team is better off now, I'm looking forward to watching the games." she laughed, " If you play quidditch as well as you do Volleyball then I do hope Slytherin can keep up."

He sighed, he didn't mean to hurt her feelings...if that was what he did, "It's fine Miss Newbury, don't pay any attention to me." he was quite grumpy sometimes as Sam put it and usually quite oblivious to social interaction.

She lifted her head happily and smiled at him. "Its alright Professor. I can be a bit brash I've been told. But I wouldn't want you to think poorly of me. I really just want you to like me. Because, well, I like you." She clasped her hands behind her back and rocked back and forth innocently. He was so unaware of things, he probably would take this display as a sincere attempt at innocence.

He nodded accepting her apology and trying to drown out her double meaning words , "Well perhaps we should look for Samantha, I havn't seen that bird of hers in a while." he said quickly changing the subject as he turned to go and look for his sister.

Ivan almost blushed at the compliment. He had a weakness to compliments about his athletic ability, it usually made him want to blush. He was actually fairly shy though he never seemed it. "Thanks, I hope we do well.. I have to learn how everyone plays with a new team now." He'd been on a quidditch team in his old school and had been one of the best keepers they had, but although he was confident about his ability in quidditch he still wasn't good at getting the compliments. He noticed her shifting around with her cauldron so without saying anything he took it in his other arm now that it was free and held it for her. "What else did you need to buy?"

Sam was surprised when she saw his cheeks reddening, she woudln't have thought that possible with how much of a "mans man" he seemed to be, but when he took her cauldron she was convinced that he was the strong silent type, a gentleman to boot, oh he'd make some girl very lucky someday.
"Thank you." she said softly, " Nothing else much, my flasks are inside the cauldron I may have a few more places to go to today." she nodded towards the piece, "You?" she asked.

Ivan nodded feeling more comfortable talking about cauldrons as his blush faded almost as quickly as the subject change. "I can help you. If you want that is. I am just about done with my shopping but I have time." His library trip could wait a few hours, he was in no hurry and liked helping Samantha, she seemed very calm, nice and friendly. Put together is the first thought that came to mind. she was.. put together.
He walked with her up towards the counter so they could both make their purchases. And when she wasn't looking he actually managed the corners of his lips to turn up in a smile.

She made her purchases as well and thanked the sales lady before turning, "I came here with Professor Renneau and Lyra...uh Miss Newbury, are you acquainted with them?" she asked turning to look up at him.

Ivan walked behind her while she headed to the exit "Not yet.. " He wondered why a professor would be there with two female students and frowned. He looked quite moody when he frowned. Maybe he should mind his own business and leave her alone if she was that kind of girl.

She noticed his frown and it caused one of her own, " Are you okay?" she asked there was concern in her voice. He looked a bit frightening when he wasn't happy though a smile transformed his face she was sure.
"Are the packages heavy?" she asked offering to carry her own things again.

"Why is a professor with you outside of school?" His frown wasn't going away and he was debating between staying to keep the guy's paws off her, or leaving her on her own if she was the type to dally with a professor. He should have known she was too nice to be true.... he'd thought she'd have been a good friend. He hoped he was missing something in this equation. He didn't let her take her cauldrons though.. not yet. He wanted to hear her response before he made a decision. He preferred making informed choices when he could, before reacting to his first thoughts.

She frowned and stopped with him, " You know...I think I should just tell people." she sighed then looked over at him already telling what he was thinking, she gave him a little head shake and then leaned in, "Keep a secret?" she asked, he didn't seem like someone who would talk or gossip.

Ivan nodded and the frown lessened. Surely there was an explanation but as yet he could think of no others, but he would give her a chance in case he was mistaken. "I do not tell secrets Samantha." If anyone could keep a secret it was him, if he could keep his sister's secret for so many years he could keep any this girl had. Though if it was something where she was in danger, he would do what he could to help her.

"No..." she said with a soft smile studying his eyes, "No you don't." she nodded, and she liked that about him immensly he would keep her secrets. She laughed a little, "It's not even anything big or bad even..."she said referring to her "secret, still she realized she could trust this person,"but..." she nodded, " I think I just found a friend in you Ivan." she said with a smile. Then she nodded again decisively, "Yes let's seal it then, our friendship." she offered her hand to him, " and I shall tell you my secret about professor Renneau."

Ivan have her his large dark hand which almost seemed to dwarf the girl's paler smooth one as she reached to shake his hand. He had a firm but gentle grip as if he didn't want to hurt her by closing his hand too tightly. He would be happy to have a friendship with this girl, who seemed very much more than she appearred on the surface. But he felt that perhaps she was indeed as smart and friendly as she appeared. He knew looks could be decieving but she seemed genuine in her eyes that she would very much like him as a friend and he knew that he would like that too. But he was a loyal friend once he'd made one, as long as that friend never betrayed the trust he put in them. Only time would tell if she would be a good friend in return but he somehow didn't doubt it. And he smiled.
