Adelaide had left the Opening Ceremony and returned to the common rooms. She was really very happy for everyone who got chosen, even though he dad talked a lot about how dangerous the competition was. She sort of envied Regina for being chosen, but she was too young to compete anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered.
Adelaide sat on the floor with a spread of books before her. She had book marks in all of them and was taking turns flipping through them for the desired information. She was working on an essay for class, even though it wasn't due until next week.

Gage was walking to the dormatory when he stumbled and tripped over a book that was lying on the floor. He landed on his face.
"Ow..." Gage groaned into the floor. He turned onto his side to see the owner of the book.
"Oh, Hello Adelaide!" Gage said cheerfully. "Thought I'd drop by and say hi, i guess..."

She couldn't help but laugh, not at Gage's falling, but at his response to the fall. She helped him up and dusted off his shirt. He didn't look hurt and gaging by his greeting, he didn't feel hurt either. That made Adelaide feel better about being the reason he had smacked his face into the floor. "Sorry about that Gage. I'm pretty messing." She started to gather up her books, shutting the opened ones, and stacking them into a very large pile.

"Oh don't worry about it, I'm a natural at falling," He smiled. "The landing i could use some work on though." Laughing he best down to help Adelaide collect her books. "Why'd you have so many books out anyway?"

"Essay," she replied. "I like to be thorough with my research." When the books had all been stacked she returned to her spot on the floor. "Thanks. And sorry again. I'll try to be more neat in the future."

"Essay? For what subject?" Gage asked, sitting across from Adelaide. "And Don't worry about it. Most nights the common room is full of strewn books and studying students. I trip a good fifty times trying to get threw the place." Gage laughed.

"History of Magic. Fascinating subject," she added with a sincere smile. "Perhaps we should find you a non-tripping spell, to ensure your safety." Adelaide laughed. "Haven't you got anything you need to study for? Or have you already finished?"

"Isn't that essay due next week?" Gage asked. "And yes I do, I was actually planning on working on Potions... It's my worst subject," he laughed a bit. "Something always ends up blowing up!"

"Yeah," she nodded timidly. "But I'd like to make sure its very thorough before handing it in. My mum would freak if I didn't get good marks. The daughter of a librarian and a professor. It would be unthinkable." She shrugged her shoulders happily, knowing she also just liked to do the work right.
"I could help you, maybe, if you wanted. With your potions. I'm not the best, but its just following the directions to the tee. And I can do that."

"Yea, i know what you mean..." Gage agreed. "Lexi and Logan, my older siblings, were perfect students, and my dad is apperently pretty high up in the Ministry in America, everyone expects me to at LEAST have good marks..." Gage rolled his eyes, but laughed it off. He was pretty bookish, and liked work as well, he just wished it wasn't expected of him.
"And yea, I'd like help with the work, thanks Aelaide," Gage smiled. But he didn't get his work out right away, he was still sitting on the floor, a bit relaxed and looking out the window.
"Hey, I like you're button for the tournament," Gage said. "But I wonder, how come you're not supporting one house tho?"

Adelaide looked down at the little pin fastened to her collar. It showed the faces of all four House Champions and the blinking text read, "May the best house win!" It was the same one that adorned her father's robes when he was teaching. But he wasn't the reason she wore hers. "Well I'm new here," she said, stating the obvious as she was only a first year. "And of course I want Ravenclaw to win, but as I don't really know any of the champions I think it would be unfair to not support them all. I'm sure there are other people supporting everyone, or someone from another house. Right?" She was now worried that by sporting a diplomatic pin she was actually segregating herself, which was the opposite of what she was trying to achieve.

"I'm new too," Gage said. "And your pin is a pretty smart idea. One of my best friends is a champion, but she's for Hufflepuff." Gage pointed to his own "Support Regina" pin. "It's SO HARD to cheer for two people!"

"Oh, Maxi Borale? That must be hard on you. But you know, I don't think anyone would be mad at you for cheering on your best friend. At least, I know I wouldn't be. House rivalries are so silly." Having grown up around the school, Adelaide had heard about how competitive the houses were with each other. And not knowing she would be sorted in Ravenclaw until the time came, she tried hard not to make assumptions. Although, in Slytherin's case it was hard not to.

"No, I agree, no one would give me a hard time about it," Gage said. "I just try to support my house once and a while." Gage sighed and shook his head.
"And yea, the rivaleries are sorta dumb, but they just kinda happen," Gage laughed. "I mean, i know it doesn't pertain to all of them, but have you met some of those Slytherins? I think each house is stereotyped, and then students just assume that if they're in a certian house, they must fit those stereotypes."

Thane walked down the stairs of the boy's dorms with a pile of books in his hand on various subjects. He saw the two kids talking in the common room and headed towards them. Like always there were books scattered all over the floor.. some were possibly his that he'd forgotten earlier. He was always loosing things and completely disorganized. He dropped down on one of the couches nearby and unceremoniously droped his books onto the floor before picking one up. He was intending to read though likely he'd be distracted by the conversation so he didn't open the book right away.
"Hey Gage, Hi Adelaide.."

"I was just thinking that," she exclaimed excitedly. "All of those Slytherins are so...." She shook her head irritatedly but didn't finish her sentence. Thane walked in then, and sat near them. "Hey Thane. Studying?" She looked at the big pile of books he had with him. He was either studying or starting a bookstore.

"Hey, not ALL of the Slytherins are bad," Gage said. "Seth Inophen has been my best friend for a while now, he's not like the rest of them."Gage saw Thane take a seat with a pile of books. "Hey Thane."

"Actually I was going to study a little." By little he meant his normal method of studying where he read something until his mind thought of something else and then wandered to the other subject and back and forth between a variety of subjects at once. He was not what you'd call a linear thinker. "What you two up to?"

Adelaide pointed her quill at the parchment in front of her. "Essay," she answered. But she hadn't worked on it since Gage had come in. It was sitting unfinished on the floor, and with her friends there it was likely to stay the way for a while longer.

"And I'm keeping her from doing her essay," Gage chuckled a little. He really hadn't meant to, he vaguely recalled saying that he was going to do homework as well, but he hadn't exactly gotten to it.
