She lowered her lashes, the picture of demure. She didn't care what he thought, she was answering a challenge that was already made when Lani stepped through the door. Call it her primal instincts, call it having to walk the line every day being mary sunshine while others hated you for it, call it whatever you would Sam never let her guard down, if she alienated a few, or if she set the wrong impression there was always next time, and then there was always the fact that she didn't really care.
"I suppose I will apologize later then." she said quietly, and she would too, whether or not she meant it was up for debate. Miscommunication was one thing, but petty jealousy was another, and she would stomp on the latter.

He shrugged. "She won't want to hear it and you won't mean it. I'd save your breath if I were you."
He smiled and leaned forward. "Besides, I think it worked out all right for her." he nodded towards the door where she had left with Rystain earlier.

"Are you insinuating that I would issue an apology I didn't mean?" and was he ordering her to do something? He was getting more under her skin by the minute.
She looked off to the direction he indicated and sighed, well there was that.
"I hope they'll be very happy together."

She didn't let anything slip, he would see just how well of an actress she was. " Perhaps I'll surprise you." she told him softly. She lived as she acted, as she breathed. She covered her tracks well and if she didn't she wouldn't have survived. "I'm not perfect, far from it, but I'll let you discover my weaknesses rather than blurt them out. Where's the mystery in that? The fun?" Oh she'd let you see what weaknesses she wanted to you to see and nothing else.

"Well, if you want honesty, they all left for different reasons. Rabastan probably felt like there was too much competition in the room. Rita probably got a wild hair up her bum, and you know why Rystain and Lani left. And the thing is... it all probably centered around you."

She raised her brows delicately, " You mean to tell me *I* drove them all off?" she asked her brow furrowed then, "I'm not adverse to honesty Mr. Knight but I'm beginning to think you're rather brutal at it. I didn't intentionally wish to drive anyone off." except for perhaps you, and only because of what you're saying.

She gave him a cheeky grin, "That, Mr. Knight, would indicate that I'm overly tired from packing and unpacking and since we both know I'm perfect I must conclude that you instead are an ...well what you just said." it was obvious the sarcasm in her voice her own silent apology for her behavior. She swallowed, "Come then, let's not be at odds....is there something beneath my perfection that is...that you can find remotely admirable?" she asked searching his eyes.

"Were you to have a peaceable conversation with me, perhaps I could find something to admire," he told her, raising his eyebrows. "I promise you, I am a very simple guy. I say what I mean... there are no insults or innuendos or anything else behind my words. I don't put that much effort into my speech. That being said, we can generally assume that we're both perfect, in which case, we should get along wonderfully."
He leaned forward so that he was closer to her and held out his hand. "Hi. I'm Ryan."

She very muche doubted that Ryan was a simple guy, or that he said what he meant, he might on certain occasions and if his digs weren't digs at all then he really didn't think before he spoke, but she could sense a great heartbreaker in him yet, and she knew from being one herself that heartbreakers weren't the most honest of folks, Charm had it's price after all.
She took his hand and nodded, "Yes I believe we estab-" she paused, his eyes were something else and they made her feel slightly odd she felt like she was being searched, she didn't understand it or why Dorian had a strange affect on her and she sincerely didn't like it. It took her a moment to realize he was offering her a new start and then her smile was back in place, "Hi, I'm Samantha Montgomery, you may call me Sam if you'd like."

She frowned she lived her life like that anyway, and she had no real plans to change, but it was a little disheartening to hear, "Such a bright outlook." she shook her head, "So where do I search for friends? Hufflepuff?"

He grinned. "I hear that's where they dwell. Gryffindor, too, but that's against our religion as Slytherins, isn't it?" He was only joking, and he assumed she would understand that, but then again, who could tell with her?
"No, Lyra's all right, but she can turn against you pretty quickly. Girls seem to want to be friends with Lestrange. And Quandry's actually a decent guy. Lani's a pretty nice girl too, but you just started off on the wrong foot."

She brought her fingers up in an x when he mentioned Gryffandors showing that she too had a sense of humor but smiled along with the rest of what he was saying.
