Gage walked into the library with a sigh. Why his poitions book had spontaneously caught fire, Gage had no clue. All he knew was that he had to get a copy from the library until his new copy came in the mail.
When he got to the section in the library that would have his potions book, though, there wasnt a single copy of it. Instead, Gage grabbed a handful of books, thinking that the potions they'd be making in class would be in at least ONE of the books he picked up. The only problem with this plan though, was that Gage wasn't exactly the tallest second year, and was now unable to see over the large pile of books he was carrying. This resulted in Gage slamming into something hard and falling to the floor, the potions books going everywhere.
When the slight daze dissapated, Gage looked up and realized he ran into a person.
"Oh, My bad..."

"Ow," the said person said, getting knocked back a few steps. Everything in her hands went scattering across the floor, until a bookshelf on either side stopped them. This was why Lani never came into the library. One, she didn't care enough about any subject to further research it, and two, things like this happened. It was ridiculous.
She looked down through a mass of blonde curls, assessing the younger student before she fell to her knees and started gathring her things. "Are you all right?" She asked because she felt it was the proper thing to say.

"Yeah, I'm fine. And you?" Gage asked. Of COURSE he had to run into such a pretty girl like Leilani Evetts. Granted, he had never formally MET the girl he just ran into, but he had heard of her and seen her in classes.
"Here, let me help," he said, dropping to his knees and began to help clean up the mess on the floor. He was suprised that the librarian hadn't come over to scold them yet.

Lani waved off his question, a little irritated, but not necessarily at the boy. Well, yes. He had run into her afterall. But she was also irritated at the weather, the fact she was in the library, and the fact that everything in her bag was now on the floor. "Yes," she drawled. "I'm fine."
She paused for a moment when he started to help her gather her things, and she took a breath in. Well, he was being nice. She should return the favor. "Thank you," she said, and stopped him so that she could get a look at him. "Have we met?" It was quote possible they had and she had forgotten.

"Uh, not really," Gage said. "I mean, we're in classes together, but we havent talked or anything..."
Stop babbeling you idiot, introduce yourself...
"I'm Gage, by the way," Gage said, handing Lani one of her text books. "Gage Oliver." He looked around. He was sure there was another book that he had carried, but where did it go?

"Lani Evetts," she said, somewhat distracted still. She accepted the book he held out with her perfectly manicured hand and slid it back into her back.
She looked around, and, satisfied that nothing of hers was still laying about, finally looked at him. "Do you have everything of yours?"

He looked around, making sure everything was off the floor and in his bag. Okay. Maybe he didnt need NINE Potions text books...He's simply explain to Slughorn about the spontaneously combustable text book...
Yea, brilliant.
Then Gage hear her question. "Yes, I think i have everything. Do you?" When he noticed that all her things were packed again, they stood up. "And again, I'm sorry, It was all my bad, seriously."

She nodded, her curls bouncing as she did so. "Yes, I have everything," she said, even though she looked around one more time.
She finally looked up and smiled at him when he apologized again. "You should be more careful. That was a pretty hard hit... where are you going to so determindedly?" She wasn't mad at Gage... she had been irritated at first, like any proper Slytherin would be, but things happened, and she couldn't fault him for that.

"My Potions book spontaneously combusted and i was running with the books before I could drop them," He laughed hallowly. "Obviously that didn't work as well as I hoped..." He smiled, blushing at how stupid he sounded.
what kind of book combusts???

She blinked at him almost blankly for a second before she decided to let it go, and she smiled slightly. "Right." She didn't quite understand how all of that tied together, but she trusted him that it did. "Well, you're taking Potions?" She asked, easily slipping into a conversation that was a bit easier. "I always found it a terrible subject."

"Eh, it's okay..." Gage shrugged. "Truthfully, I'm awful at it. But my older brother was brilliant at it, so I'm hoping it'll rub off on me soon." He took all the books he was holding and set them on the floor, too heavy for a simple 12 year old. "I'm must better at Defence Against the Dark Arts."

"Well I'm pretty awful at it myself," She admitted, then smiled at him. "You're a cute kid. What house are you in?" She asked. If he was in Slytherin, he'd probably go far. He seemed like more of a Gryffindor to her, though, except that being so clumsy wasa distinctly Ravenclaw trait. She couldn't see colors anywhere.

"You're a cute kid." She had said, making Gage blush a bit.
"I'm in Ravenclaw," Gage said, looking down and realizing he forgot to put his tie on this morning. "It's my second year here." Gage smiled proudly.

"Oh, Ravenclaw," she sighed, and nodded. "I guess I should have known. Well, at least you're not a Gryffindor. That's something."
Leilani wasn't a big proponent of Slytherin or die, but she did feel like Slytherins were slightly better than everyone else. Still, she liked Gage, and he showed potential. He was worth more of her time.

Gage noted her sigh and raised an eyebrow. "There's nothing wrong with Ravenclaw," he said a bit defencively. "It's as good as Slytherin or any other house in my book."

She shrugged, not noticing the defensive tone in his voice. Sure, Ravenclaw was all right. There had to be brains behind any big operation, right?
"Ravenclaw is fine," she said. "Even Hufflepuff is fine, really," she reasoned, thinking out loud. "You just shouldn't let it shape you." Define was the word she was looking for, but she couldn't think of it, and settled for another. "You can be a great wizard in any house. It's just how you use it."

"Guess thats true," Gage said, nodding in agreement. He mulled over what Lani had said. "You can be a great wizard in any house. It's just how you use it."

"Of course it's true," She said. "If great wizards only came out of one house, why would anyone stay in school if they were sorted into any other house? I think the whole house system is pointless, anyway."
If he asked her why, she wouldn't be able to answer. It was something she had heard once, and it was said with such conviction that she decided she should probably believe it.

"I do too," Gage said. "The Houses are just seperating us. The whole school should be one strong unit, not 4 groups in one."

"Two groups, perhaps," Leilani said. While she could be a complete airhead, there were fundamental things that she simply knew. "Even if we were one group, we'd still find something to split ourselves in two over."
She put her hands on her thighs, sighing. "They have tables in here, you know. We don't have to stay on the floor," she smiled.
