Voltaire was still upset about how rude his students were to him, so with some help from professor Slughorn, who used to adore him when he was in school, set up their Detention. They knew that if they didn't show up, it would only be worse for them. the mean part of him hoped they wouldn't show up so he could make the detention worse the next time around. so he waited for them to show up.

Rayne was used to these detentions. She had been handed a few for her tongue in her five years, and she still never learned to keep her mouth shut. Still, she thought this wasn't quite fair, considering how he had treated them in return, but she said nothing about it. It would all be over in a couple of hours.
Gloves in hand, she entered the room, holding back a long sigh. "Good day, Professor," she murmured evenly.

Voltaire smiled good naturedly at the first to arrive for detention. "Hello! A wonderful day for you as well!" he noticed the gloves and said "Oh those won't due." he handed her a pair of gloves made of small chain link gloves. "I don't want you cutting yourself after all!" he added cheerfully. "Once the other student arrives, we'll get started!" with that he sat down and waited for the next student to arrive.

Andrea was in an even more foul mood than usual that evening. Detention with that hateful professor and that stupid red-haired Gryffindork... It wasn't fair. In her opinion, the professor was acting like a loon, and she had every right to call him on his looniness. And yet, she wouldn't have even had this dumb detention if the Gryffindor had kept her big mouth shut. Just goes to show that being older didn't necessarily make one wiser.
She'd had half a mind to skip out on the stupid detention, but eventually decided against it. If she didn't go to this one, her next punishment would probably be worse. And she was not in the mood for worse. It was already, in her opinion, about as bad as it could get.
So she huffed and puffed and pouted her way to the dueling classroom and walked in with her arms folded angrily across her chest. She liked like a petulant child, which, of course, was exactly what she was.
"Fine, I'm here," she snapped, barely looking at either of them. "Let's get this over with."

Rayne had been about to point out that the dentention notice had said to bring gloves, but he handed her a new pair before she could.
She shot a look at the Slytherin girl,, hoping she'd just be quiet. Irritating Rothschild while they were in detention was a nasty idea, and yes, she wanted this over with as well, but there was no reason not to be pleasant about it.

Voltaire was practically gleeful at seeing how upset the other girl was! Oh it was going to be a good day after all. He said cheerfully "Here you go!" and handed her another pair of gloves, which he had charmed to be theft proof, not by himself of course, but from the shop he had gotten them from.
"Now Professor Slughorn was kind enough to help me with your task. Since there isn't anything really the matter with the classroom, He has given me a few pounds of these " and with that said he strode to his desk and pulled out two boxes. The tables where the girls were to work would be about waist high for them and there were three bowls in front of the cutting boards he hefted the boxes to his table and motioned for the girls to stand on the other side.
"You see," he continued as he pulled the lid off one of the containers "These frogs have to be cut up! The eyes go into one container, the guts, be mindful of the gall bladder, go in here and the tendons in the legs go here!" he motioned to the empty containers on the table as he named the contents of each one. He pulled out a frog and put it on the closest cutting board, sitting as it would be if it were alive.
"Now you can't use magic, that as he said,'would give the potion a funny sheen' and we don't want that for your next potions assignment right?" he asked and not getting a response he added "I knew you'd see it my way! the cutting gloves I gave you won't help your dexterity any, but you won't cut yourselves, OH yes, if you just butcher them, you'll have to be back next week!" he said smiling.
"You can ask questions if you like, but I don't think I'd like any extra chatter! so any questions?" he asked looking pleasant but serious, the way most parents can look when their child has done something wrong, but they are in front of guests.

She was going to throw up, she was pretty sure. She decided in that instant that she was dropping dueling. Could she? It was an extra class, she didn't see why not. But she didn't think she could handle too much of this professor. Honestly, pointing out that students had been answering his questions did not deserve this.
She sighed, saying, "No, sir," when he asked if there were any questions, and pulled on her gloves to get started, trying to think of anything else in the world.

Voltaire felt a bit of pity in his heart and said. "Here! let me show you how to do one!" he shucked off his coat and pulled out his short silver knife, it was smaller than the boning knives he had out for the girls, but it would do. He pressed the edge of the blade to the frogs eye and turned it around, not moving the blade. The eye popped out easily and he flipped the frog over, the slit the frog carefully from the center of the lower jaw to the base and neatly plopped out the guts into the bin then he cut the legs off, made another slit down the leg and removed the skin to expose the tendon. He slipped his knife under it and pulled the leg through and removed the tendon. "See! it's as easy as de-boning a chicken!" he said holding up the tendon for the girls to see that there was no flesh on it.

Andrea scowled. This was disgusting. Utterly repulsive. She stared at him, her eyes cold and hard as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I am not doing that," she said flatly. "You can't make me."

She had to look away when the eye popped out. That was a little too much, and she'd have to try really hard to think of something else while she spent the day doing this.
Not wanting any part of Andrea's refusal, she picked up a knife and a frog.

Voltaire wasn't amused. "Then Leave, You will receive a "T" for your grade, a Letter to your Parents, a discussion with your head of house, and I shall talk with the headmaster to have you expelled. You got into this situation the same way you are working your way into this one. On your own." he wiped his hands on a handkerchief and Continued.
"You could just start cutting up frogs, and I could forget you even opened your mouth. The choice is yours." he offered her, even if he wanted nothing more than to send her on her way to the headmasters' office.
((that's why the hell nicer than any teacher i've EVER HAD she should be grateful!))

Andrea glared at him for another minute, seething. As far as she was concerned, this was cruel and unusual punishment. And she steadfastly refused to believe she deserved it. He was the one acting crazy, she had merely called him on it. And she wouldn't have been given a detention if the redhead hadn't decided to push the issue. None of this was her fault. She was innocent. It was everyone else who was at fault.
But she didn't want to be expelled. She didn't want her parents to be involved. They still thought of her as their little angel, and she'd always done a good job of putting on the act when she was around them. This would be too shocking for them.
With a heavy sigh, she put on the nasty gloves in front of her and grabbed her knife. She'd do it, but she'd be damned if she was going to do a good job.

Voltaire sighed as the frog Carnage ensued. "You know, Cutting them up for the sake of just chopping them up isn't going to make it easier for you, You'll only get the chain link gloves dirty and the metal will begin to stink on your hands, You'll be lucky if your hands don't smell like dried blood and guts for a week." he said turning back to his students walking to his desk. he had lots of spells to study for their next class together.

Rayne was a little irritated.
She was doing her work without complaint. She was doing it correctly. Andrea, on the other hand, was mouthing off and being a brat, basically. They had committed the same crime to land them here, and yet Gryffindor had lost 50 points while Slytherin only lost 30? Life wasn't fair, she got that, but come on.
She continued working, thinking of the Quidditch poster she had in her room, the cute beater that she had bought the poster for, instead of the growing pile of frog eyes staring up at her.

Voltaire was at a loss of what to do about the Slytherin girl. "How in the world did you EVER end up in Slytherin?" he asked almost to the ceiling. As far as he remembered Slytherin was about Cunning and knowing when and where you could strike. This girl was about as sneaky as wailing lorry speeding down a street.

Rayne glanced at the girl. That was an easy question to answer. She obviously wasn't smart enough for Ravenclaw, her loyalties lay only with herself, so Hufflepuff wouldn't take her, and the Gryffindors never would have put up with her. Slytherin was the only place for her.

Andrea glared at him for asking the question, but she refused to answer. If he was going to get on her for talking back, then she was just going to refuse to speak. He wasn't worthy of her time. And besides, his question was abhorrently stupid, in her opinion. She was certainly no nerdy Ravenclaw and no wussy Hufflepuff. And Gryffindor... just the thought made her gag.
Obviously she belonged in Slytherin. It was because she was superior, obviously. The fact that he didn't see that was just proof that he was a moron. She popped out another frog eye, keeping her mouth deliberately shut.

Voltaire could tell she thought was superior, "I guess it should ashame you to know I was a Slytherin." he wiped his knife clean and stood in front of an enchanted mirror. He fired a spell into it and it shot back twice as fast, he countered it an fired another spell, the same effect happening and this time blocking it. There was no point to spend all of his time reading. Not when so may other things could be done, besides he wasn't one to spend too long reading. It wasn't how he learned things.

Rayne was watching this, unsure how she felt about this professor. He was... eccentric, but who was she to judge eccentric? He was a little intimidating, but then, his Slytherin background could account for that.
She had been so distracted watching him fire spells into the mirror that her knife had slipped, cutting a frog's eye right in half, and she didn't even know where the back leg went. "Oh, bullocks..."
