After her lessons for the day were over and the other students wee off making mischief or studying, Evelyn was leaning against the chilly wall of the Entrance Hall. She wasn't sure what lesson Rabastan had last but there was a good chance he would be coming from one of the higher floors, down to the dungeons where, over her five years at Hogwarts, she had gathered the Slytherin Commons were.
As students and staff filed past her, she slide down against the wall, her red hair sliding slightly less graceful against the stone. From her book bag, which she had dropped at her feet when she first taken this post of waiting, she withdrew a novel which she was nearly finished with. It was one of her father's, from his childhood. Written by a muggle author it was a fantastical tale of vampires and dark creatures. All of it way off from the truth, but bless muggles for trying. She flipped open the book and read a few lines, then glanced back up to be sure she wouldn't miss him.

Rabastan had his book bag slung carelessly over one shoulder in an effortless manner of looking cool. He had a few strands of well gelled hair hanging in his eyes. He had just finished with his last class for the day, thank Merlin. He didn't think he could handle another couple of hours with incompetent teachers and students who were worse. A few more months of this, and he would be gone from a school he felt he outgrew two years ago.
He saw her, and normally wouldn't have paid any attention to her, except for that interaction with her in dueling. He grinned, noticing her nose in a book. He loved ruining the bookish, innocent types, which is what she was portraying well enough now.
He began walking towards her, that infamous, million dollar smile on his lips. He was never too tired for a conquest.

She looked up to see Rabastan strolling carelessly toward her. Thank heaven for the book planted firmly in front of her face! If not for that he would have seen the enormous smile crossing her lips as she watched the way his hair gently bounced with each step and caught the sunlight that shone through the window. He was breathtaking.
But as she stared she became mortified as he continued on his path right for her. Never one for a lack of words, Evelyn now found herself faced with having nothing to say other than 'hi' and 'I love you'. She swallowed hard but couldn't bring herself to tear her eyes away from him. With each step he was closer and she could feel her heart beating more erratically as the space between them closed.

When Rabastan reached he, he leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest. He wasn't exactly sure what to do with her silence, since he hadn't expected it, but he wouldn't let that stop him. After assessing her for a moment, he squatted down, to be at her level, and extended his hand.
"Hi," he grinned. "I'm Rabastan. And you're...?"
(sorry so short. They'll get longer)

She was frozen on the floor, staring up at the god that leaned against the wall next to her. There was silence for a long moment. That never happened around Evelyn! Then he bent down, and somehow she was able to hear his words clearly over her heart which threatened to break loose from her chest at any moment.
"I know," she replied in a girlish giggle. She smiled at him before realizing he had asked her name. And was offering to shake hands! Could she really be so lucky as to touch him? It was a miracle she didn't die from excitement right there in the Entrance Hall. "I'm-" Oh sh*t! Had she forgotten her own name? It started with an E. Eden? Esther? Eleanor? "Evelyn," she said louder than she had meant to. She was just so happy to have remembered it.

Oh great, he thought. She was a giggler. Still, he took her hand, and turned it over in his own hand, kissing the back of it. He kept his eyes on her as he did this to see her reaction. He probably wouldn't be half as vain as he was in the girls didn't treat him like this.
He almost laughed at the pause, and he could see her wheels turning in her head to come up with her name. "Evelyn," he repeated. "That's a very classical name. You wear it well," he complimented her. Evelyn was actually one of his favorite names for a girl, so the compliment wasn't far fetched from him.

If it hadn't been for the sturdy wall she was leaning against, Evelyn would have fainted onto the floor when his lips pressed against her hand. She felt her heart beating in her throat. "Thank you," she managed to reply without any knowledge that her mouth was moving at all. She stared at him, his gorgeous eyes. His silky hair. His perfect lips. He was a god and he was speaking with her. And not just speaking with her, but complimenting her. She became extremely aware of how plain she was in his presence.
And there was no explaining why he was speaking to her now. He hadn't done so in all the years they were at school together. And she had been staring at him for at least three of those years. Realizing she was unnaturally silent, she made for simple conversation, trying hard to stay clear of telling him how beautiful he was. Or complimenting him full stop. It would be hard. "What class are you coming from?" Lessons? She was a geek. A beautiful angel was sitting right in front of her and all she could think to talk about was lessons? Idiot!

He sighed quietly. He was starting to get bored, and if the best she could offer him was conversation about classes...
"Arithmancy," he replied softly. "I missed seeing you there."
He had to stop himself from smiling triumphantly. That was huge for him to say to her, and he was certain she knew it, too. He hated being the one to come up with small talk, but women seemed to like it. "What are you reading?"

"Arithmancy," she repeated. There was good reason she had not elected to take that class. "I'm rubbish with that sort of thing. Numbers just don't like me much I'm afraid." She started to laugh but only managed a smile. He was making her nervous still, but at least she was managing whole sentences now. Soon she would be up to whole monologues again, her normal self. She tried to ignore his comment about missing her. If she acknowledged it she might lose the abillity to speak again.
"I Am Legend," she replied, showing him the cover of the book she was reading. It was faded and bent, but clearly visible were pale white faces with glowing red eyes and blood dripping fangs. Everyone on the book looked as if they had been rotting in the ground for years before deciding to chase after humans. It was total ridiculousness. "Have you read it?" She suspected he hadn't. Not many wizards outside of muggleborns would think to read a muggle book. And she knew Rabastan to be of pure blooded descent. The odds were against it.

Rabastan was kind enough not to say it, but he did think to himself that numbers didn't have to like her much, being female. As much as he loved nearly any woman, he still came from that old school thought that said women were a step below men.
His eyes moved to the cover of the novel she was reading, then back to her as he knew exactly what he was going to say to her.
He moved so that he was sitting down near her. "I have not, though now that I know you're reading it, I'm twice as interested. Would you reccomend it?"

"If you're not opposed to works of complete fiction. It claims to be a vampire novel, but in actuality it's just nonsense. But I suppose, being that a muggle wrote it, it's better off being no where near the truth." She flashed him a slightly less nervous smile as her heart slowly returned to its natural rhythm. "What sort of books do you read?" If he read books at all. He certainly didn't need to. He was interesting enough without having to discuss other people's writing.

He didn't really read a lot, but he didn't want to tell her this. If she liked books, books were how he'd win her over.
He smiled, and leaned towards her. "Can I share a secret with you?" he asked quietly, glancing up and down the halls as if he had some huge secret that no one could ever know.

She had just managed to get her heart to settle down when he leaned nearer her and whispered in her ear. Her heart pounded in her ears as she nodded, unable to speak once his warm breath hit her cheek. She looked, as he did, at the others walking uncaring through the entrance hall. No one was listening to their conversation. No one even seemed to notice that beautiful, handsome, perfect Rabastan Lestrange was speaking with plain, simple Evelyn Turner. She looked back at him, staring into his deep eyes.

"I'm actually a fan of Shakespeare," he told her, then raised a finger to his lips. "But shh, we pureblood..." he paused. She could have been a pureblood for all he knew, "... Slytherins aren't supposed to read," he said with a teasing smile. "Hamlet is my favorite," he added. Hamlet was the only one he had read.
He gestured to the cover of her impossibly uninteresting novel. "Any other books you can reccomend?"

Evelyn racked her brain to remember the title of a decent book. Hell, at this point any book would do. Her eyes shifted upwards as she tried to think. "Well," she started, slowly, "I rather enjoyed 'I Will Fear No Evil'. I forget woh wrote that one. And there's 'A Maze of Death'. I think Philip Dick wrote that one." She shrugged innocently, smiling sincerely at the conversation and Rabastan.

"Phillip Thingy?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow. He couldn't tell if she had forgotten his name, or if it honestly was some unfortunate man's name, but he didn't press either way.
She had finally seemed to relax a little, which made her easier to talk to, but on the other hand, Rabastan liked too see them flustered and worked up, too. He could go for that again later.
"Well, we've covered a mutual fascination with muggle writers,"he said, slowly and carefully. "I wonder what else we have in common."

((OOC: I just want to point out that Philip Dick's name got caught in the censor and came out as "thingy." LOL. I have edited the censored word list, seeing as all of the most active members are over 18. Carry on!))

((OOC: I'll just ignore that first paragraph Rabastan and pretend it never happened since I hadn't wrote 'Thingy'. LOL))
She blushed and shrugged, looking at her feet until her cheeks looked a more natural color. She couldn't help but smile. This was the one thing she had wanted from Rabastan since he mysteriously appeared in her second year, despite having always been at the school while she attended. They were talking, and seemed to be getting on perfectly. He liked muggle writers; she hadn't seen that coming. But who knew what other interests they might share. She wouldn't even know where to start.
Music was probably the next way to go. There were so many new groups and soloists. "Do you like Bowie? He's totally boss. He's got this new song out...Fame? Yeah I think that's it. Have you heard it?"

(OOC: *Smacks head* Lol)
Books, he could fake. Whatever she was on about now made no sense to him.
He could bail, he thought. Just find an excuse to walk away now. Or admit that he was clueless right then, though he very rarely did that. Still, maybe she would like the whole idea of "being able to introduce him to new things."
"I have not heard it," he said, shaking his head once. "Or any other song by... who was it? Bowie?"

"You haven't heard of David Bowie?!" Evelyn was shocked. She knew that there were a lot of people who enjoyed his music, whether they were magical or not. There were even some rumors that he was actually a wizard pretending to be a muggle. Why, she had no idea.
"Oh, he's simply marvelous. A wonderful performer. I've seen him in concert twice already. I have a few of his albums on 8-track, but of course they won't work here."
